The 2021-2022 Coaching Carousel

USC is not Notre Dame. They wouldn’t be able to sign a comparable deal to televise their home football games. They are not going to walk away from playing UCLA and Stanford in football and basketball. There’s no ACC to take their water polo, etc. teams.

Sure, I could see the idiot money men from USC going independent—it would be a mistake.
They only have to draw as well as BYU and be as good as Notre Dame. With the right coaching and recruiting infrastructure, they could easily do both. Don’t underrate their alumni connections in media to get something big done.

USC’s TV money as an independent would be closer to BYU than ND.

Expanded playoffs would make it easier for a solid independent to get in. No need to compete against teams like Utah or Oregon.
Conference championships will be extremely important in the the new CFP. I think we will see ND join the ACC. I believe that there will be less room for independents. IMHO

Only P5 champions will get an auto bid (if that’s a thing). Brand name independents will have a seat at the table because they bring eyeballs. Unless and until the ACC has a real TV deal, there’s not a great incentive for ND to join, especially when they can have their cake and eat it too.

You might be right. We will see

OU has Bobby Stoops coming out of retirement to be the interim HC to coach the OU bowl game. I'll bet they will press him hard to step back in as the fulltime HC for the next couple of years.

I saw somewhere that Bob's brother Mark could go to Norman. Kentucky might be playing Alabama & Auburn every year in the SEC East once OU & UT moves in. That is in addition to Georgia & Florida..I'd get out of Lexington if I could in that case.

Kliffsbury & Leach are being mentioned for the OU job. I'd go with Kliffsbury since it wouldn't be a big departure from what OU was doing with Riley. SEC West could be entertaining football.

Kliffbury just got fired from a Big 12 rival. I have a tough time believing that would be seen as a great hire

Mark's pretty much reached Kentucky's ceiling. Unless he LOVES Lexington, there's really no reason to stay.

I always thought it ND joined any conference, it would be the B1G.

He’s the head coach of one of the best teams in the NFL and has college experience recruiting in their neck of the woods. It’d be great for OU. I don’t see KK making the move.

who on earth is mentioning Leach for that job?

I wouldn't have mentioned Leach if I didn't see it somewhere. Forgot to get the name of the website.

I don't think that will happen but think again, Mark Stoops' ability to have winning seasons at UK is probably taking a hit. If I was him, I'd be checking out some job offers out there.
