Those guys made how to videos for exercise when I was in middle/high school and trying to learn how to work out. That’s a blast from the past… that’s a weird direction they went tho hahaha
 
Do all strategic promotional objectives come from Rick alone, or is there a position dedicated to engagement/outreach/PR/branding/strategic marketing/etc?

Obviously there’s a social media intern, contracted video team, as well as a graphics team, but is there a top line manager handling this core business function?

The AD needs a public face and strategic message if it wants to get donations for NIL or general fund, but I don’t see evidence that there is someone actually pushing a cohesive strategy. Almost seems as if the public messaging and objectives are just in cruise control and waiting for someone to take the reins

“CU is committed to marketing out Athletic Department and our student athletes. We have formed a committee to evaluate where we stand with regards to those efforts and will be making recommendations on a path forward based on the findings”

BOCS.com — What does a work day typically look like for you as the University of Colorado’s Associate AD of External Affairs/Chief Marketing Officer?

MB— Like many jobs, there is no typical day. A lot of my time is working with our staff on the various marketing and sales initiatives we have going on. Whether that is digital assets like our website, e-mail and social, or our ticket sales staff making outbound calls, or with our marketing staff working on advertising or game presentation. We work very hard at being collaborative and on brand in everything we do which takes a lot of communication across multiple departments. The variety from day to day is one of the things I love most about this position.

Interesting…. So we haven’t filled this position since the staffing cuts?

It’s hard to fathom that the executive of a 100MM business wouldn’t understand that operating without this role is like deciding you no longer need accounting, or maybe we don’t need procurement/purchasing anymore.

That is complete malpractice if he hasn’t filled that position. There is 0 world where you are operating a business this size and can’t throw in the paltry 100-200k required for the salary

I acknowledge my anti-Phil bias, but from what I’ve gleaned, Phil has imposed a hiring freeze on the AD. RG couldn’t replace this guy if he wanted to (which I suspect he does).

The AAD for External Affairs position was filled with Alexis Williams who had previously led the Ticket Office. They did not fill the CMO/AAD for Marketing role (as far as I can tell from the directory). Matt thrived in that role having previously been VP of Marketing for the Pelicans - taking over during their return to NO following Katrina.

Edit: I didn’t scroll far enough in the directory. It looks like they filled the AAD Marketing position with someone from Eastern Michigan.

I guess we are stuck with RG until he is comfortable with what his monthly pension payouts are going to be like.

RG destroyed the little bit that was left of CU FB with the idiotic hiring of HCKD.
I think it’s fair to say someone at CU should evaluate that hiring process. Doesn’t matter if it was because of PD or RG or LC or someone else. The fact is that somewhere, somehow, CU ended up in this spot. It needs to be examined because no matter how it happened, we have now ended up much much worse than when Mel was coach. And there’s an opportunity to make sure something like this doesn’t occur again. I think Saliman is more involved and will make sure this next hiring goes well.

Saliman should’ve fired RG, hired a real Athletic Director, and let that AD hire the next coach.

Make that kind of money and **** up at his position like he has, is completely unacceptable. To strap the university with unnecessary debt and cause the trajectory to such decline, is a fireable offense you would think?
If the next coach hire is bad or wrong, I'm done. We are now at the level of not even being taken seriously in games by our opponents. We are literally a traveling clown show.
 
I know everyone hates RG and I agree that he should’ve been replaced. But I will say this: From the 20,000 ft. view, our overall athletic performance at CU, sans football, is pretty good. Our coaching staffs all seem pretty competent. It’s just that damned football program that carries the load!! That’s the one you CANNOT miss on and he not only has missed but missed egregiously badly.
 
Other than the abject failure in the core business, Covid debt, crippling contract negotiations, more money paid in severance than to active coaches, bloated executive pay, inability to secure diversified revenue streams (like naming rights), low fan engagement, donor alienation, dumpster fire PR, national ridicule, inability to enact NIL progress proactively WHILE SITTING ON THE COMMITTEE PRIOR TO ITS PASSAGE, and inability to enact change on transfer restrictions…. I’d say he’s doing a bang up job since cross country still has the altitude advantage
