Re: '10 CA LB Chris Martin

Some random stuff from articles.
Martin, a 6-4, 225-pound linebacker from Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O'Dowd dominated the NorCal Nike Camp at both linebacker and tight end. He earned all-state underclass honors last season and holds verbal offers from USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Colorado and Notre Dame.

Like Powell, Martin may grow out of the linebacker position and has the frame to be a monster pass-rusher coming off the edge. He's big, fast, tough and knows how to play the game. He's very solid academically as well; Martin is the kind of high-character athlete every college wants.

“I’m not looking to make an early commitment, but it’s possible that I’ll start narrowing down the list,” he said. “I don’t want to be one of those recruits with 30 or 35 offers because I get close with the coaches sometimes and I don’t want to think about letting them down. I’ll probably keep it around five or six schools.”

25 East Bay High school football players to watch

Chris Martin

Bishop O'Dowd, LB

Only a junior, Martin has already garnered attention from the top colleges around the country. The 6-4, 225-pound hard-hitting defender has all the tools — speed, athleticism and solid instincts. He already has offers from Notre Dame, USC, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Colorado and Oregon.

But it was the Dragons' swarming defense, led by Martin's twelve tackles, which controlled the game. Bishop O'Dowd held the Hornets to 58 yards total offense. The Dragons allowed only six completions while picking off two passes, the second a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown by Quentin McWhorter as time expired.

Re: '10 CA LB Chris Martin

Yeah, it is pretty sick. He is going to make a monster DE in time. This is the type of player that wouldn't have even given us the time of day 3-4 years ago. Damn it would be so nice to land some elite pass rushers.

Re: '10 CA LB Chris Martin

I saw we've offered. Any word on if we'll be in his top 5 or 6?

Re: '10 CA LB Chris Martin

If we don't someone else will. THe kid is pretty high on CU. It's going to be a battle with UCLA and USC involved.

Weren't we the leader at one point? But, everyone else is making it even?

I was referring to Iowa's post of whether or not we're in his top 5--too early to tell--plus top 5 doesn't matter right now-we just have to stay on him.

2010 prospect Martin has four early favories

Posted by Greg Biggins

If Serra (Gardena, Calif.) receiver Robert Woods is the offensive player drawing the most early attention from the California Class of 2010, linebacker Chris Martin (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) is just as big of a prospect on the defensive side of the ball.

Martin will be a strong candidate for the state's top overall recruit a year from now. He earned all-state underclass honors as a sophomore and was the top prospect we saw, regardless of grade or position, at the NorCal NIKE Camp last May.

At 6-4, 225 pounds, Martin is playing inside linebacker but may project best as a pass-rushing defensive end in college.

I love how we are getting on these guys early--that kind of stuff has a huge impression on these kids.

We're still in it. It's CU, Stanford, USC, and ND. Hawk was the first to offer him. We made a great impression on him. I'm not saying he's ours, but we have a shot.

Re: '10 CA LB Chris Martin

A winning season here in Boulder would help out immensely. Get it done Hawkins!

Yep. The 2009 season is going to be very important for this program.

A good season and I think the 2010 class could be outstanding. Another subpar season and it could get ugly.

Re: '10 CA LB Chris Martin

So Mr. Martin is not leaning anywhere right now. He wants early playing time, would be an awesome get. Hopefully the early relationship he built with Cabral will pay some dividends.

Re: '10 CA LB Chris Martin

USC and ND have both lost the guys that were primarily recruiting him over the last two weeks, so that definitely helps us. Also, early playing time is a factor here. With USC possibly getting a commit from Kennard on Tuesday, that should also help our cause.

Long way to next February, but this guy is a monster. I'm glad we have Cabral as his primary recruiter.

Wait, I thought we were getting Kennard.
