The tight sidelines are a classic and a real home field advantage.
CU football has been talked about as this "sleeping giant" just waiting for their moment for the past 2 decades. Well, the moment has arrived and the giant is now awake. And we are afraid of expanding?! Jack Trice Stadium in Ames seats 61,500...I think Folsom can realistically expand to about that capacity, maybe 65K. I think the fact that it is 100 years old, falling apart in places, doesn't have real terlits,etc. scares a lot of potential casual ticket-buyers (families) away. Let's be real; Folsom is kinda dumpy. It needs a lot of "modernization."
I predict the new west side project will be similar to what they just put up in Corvallis at Reser Stadium. Demo Balch, preserve Carlson Gym. I wonder if the AD is going to ask for any fan feedback/input on the project or if they will just release renderings and ask for our money.

I don't understand why the public wants to see an ROI from mass transit but doesn't bring it up when roads are built or expanded. I think we must be influenced by narratives planted by industry lobbyists & PR firms in service of O&G, Auto and other powerful industries without people being aware of how their opinions about these things get formed.
The auto industry in this country and the associated businesses have been very effective at making people think that the car they drive is a reflection of who they are. If they aren't driving that makes them a nobody.
I drive because I live a place where there is no public transit. I drive older cars though that are paid for and I don't care if people think they are ugly or old.
If I lived in the Denver Metro I can see myself making good use of the RTD system. As it is when I visit my sister and want to go downtown or some other places first stop is the park and ride. The bus gets me downtown 5-10 minutes minimum faster than driving and I don't have to worry about a place to park. With rail I also don't have to worry about weather delays or traffic jams.
I do know that if they extended the light rail into the NW corridor, I'd go to Denver a lot more. I did that a ton on the east coast when I was young to go to NYC & Philly all the time. Especially useful as an adult if you want to have a nice dinner with some wine after going to a sports or cultural thing. Or, hell, things like the Beer or Whiskey fests.

There's a reason NYC is the greatest wealth generator in North America (and, perhaps, the world). It's the subway. When anyone can get anywhere in a large metropolitan area for less than $3 it unleashes an economic tsunami. If your city isn't trying to make that happen, move.
Would like to see a Stadium plan by the end of the season, just for buzz and discussion.

That’s not how capital campaigns work. Any plans would be shared with potential large donors, but not the general public, until they have raised enough money to fund about 75-80% of the project. At that point they go public with the plans. Right now, the best us peons can hope for is an announcement that they’re exploring options, which is kind of what we have.
"Next 3-5 years" for all the projects which are West Side of Folsom, new Tennis facilities and CEC. Have to think West Side Folsom is getting started in the next year or two, with the other projects to follow
Can we just launch a Sideline Plan that immediately pulls back like 3 rows behind the benches on each side, reconfigures that bottom section, and adds like 10-15 feet to each sideline minimum? Maybe even make it like a Baseball dugout where the players can step back or down and have nice heated and shaded seats under there.
Completely off-the-wall question, but do our sidelines give us a disadvantage on substitutions? Players are so bunched up that they may miss signals, and notifications to sub properly. Only happened like 4 times last game

This implies that Balch will be torn down instead of just being refurbished inside. Not a fan of that idea
I'm okay with Balch Fieldhouse being torn down to make room for a new addition to the stadium, but I hope Carlson Gym is preserved and gets a nice refurbishment. It's still useful to students and can be utilized as a pre-game location on gamedays. It sounds to me like the new structure might cover a lot of the plaza between MCDB/Muenzinger and Folsom. I'd love to see some sort of conceptual rendering (so I can nitpick) but just knowing that they are actually working on a facilities upgrade package is exciting. Looking forward to the CUEC updates as well. Go Buffs! Beat UCLA!
For the crowded sidelines issue, maybe we should stop giving on-field access to actors, musicians, bloggers, etc. before we take seating away from the lifelong paying CU fans? Get rid of the enormous throne? Stuff like that? Just a thought...

Tearing down Balch will most likely require asbestos mitigation. Very expensive
They should keep the tight sideline on the visitors side but expand it on CU’s side. It’s needed
I would take out the first row of seats on the visitors side to accommodate a trough running the length of the visitor bench
You would have to break the troughs up to allow for a few $hitters in between.
There is nothing to recommend Balch other that it being really old and having some CU sports history. But it's not nice in any way and it's not capable of being refurbished into an adequate modern facility for sporting events.
The structure itself looks fine but I'm no structural engineer. The internals - plumbing, bathrooms - are what needs obvious work
The facade is cool. The interior is garbage. If they can salvage the exterior while making the interior area more user friendly, that would be an ideal result.
With the crowds this season, having the interior stadium walkway has become an issue. Too many folks going in opposite directions and it makes for a very difficult situation to get to your seats. I’d recommend doing away with the interior walkway and have access to the seating via tunnel only. Fill in the area where the walkway is with additional seating.
