I feel comfortable with Mata up to about 42. After that my confidence plummets fast with every yard.

I’d say Mata has been average. Not bad. Truth is that college kickers just are not very good. He makes up for his lack of leg strength with his accuracy. The height on his kicks worries me more than anything.
Prime is taking us from an actual FCS level where we were at last year to some good places in the future. It doesn’t Mata about one individual player like our kicker. This whole team needs an upgrade and Prime is doing just that.
Arizona's kicker looked pretty ****ing good with strength and accuracy plus he kicked the ball both High and far on kickoffs, who knew that was possible?!?!?!
His long is 45 and the 44 yarder he missed had plenty of leg
I haven’t looked at his stats, but Loop looks like a good kicker.
Mata is a JAG and barely A Jag at that
But at least we wouldn’t be arguing about the idiocy of our coaches game management
Except things are different with momentum & field position if he makes it, so you can't assume the same drive to follow.
This. The missed fg did not cost us this game. On paper it may look like that, but not in the real world
I guess it's just easy to blame him.

If you guys are happy with Mata, that’s fine. Nobody is blaming Mata for this game. Some of us just remember feeling like we could get inside the 45 and score everytime. We knew Crosby would hit it. It’s a fun feeling. Why can’t we try to recruit that again? Seems a no-brainer. Altitude and kicking? Who wouldn’t want to come here? Should be easy. Mata can battle it out, if he wins it awesome for him!
Nah it's symptomatic of a bigger problem, staff has favorites and don't play the best players. They play their favorites.

Because good kickers are like anyone else. They want to play for a winning team. Prime ran off Becker and brought in Mata and Feely so they could have some kind of kicker by committee situation with that Palazzo kid too. Another position that was oddly managed this year.
We couldn't stop the run once Cowing left. We are fooling ourselves thinking we had a win. We just screwed ourselves in any chance of heroics but this team just lacks too much. We adjusted the OL and brought in the kids with more talent but those guys have low Football awareness.
We just need to be honest about this team. They lack too many decent players. We got enough really good players. We got a few good players but when it comes to decent players, we lack a ton. Almost all of these teams outside of Stanford which 100% is a coaching lost just has a lot more decent players than we do.
We got a lot from the portal but most of it wasn't good. We hit on some surprises like McNiell. I am happy about that but overall, we replaced someone trash and all they became was our trash
Play clock was at 0… someone said Shedeur was yelling at the officials about the play before (head shot that wasn’t called?) which caused the almost delay.
They ran it three plays for about 60 yards. I think we can assume the same outcome
On solid not frozen but still somehow slushy ground I'm not that much worse than Mata and that's the ****kng problemEspecially when you can kick like BCS
I am sure some are. Losing sucks. Especially wasting a good 2 game but once again. We gave up over 400 yards of offense. We can't stop the run to save our lives.
I completely agree with you. We need to get a Mason Crosby here. We’ve got a long way to go to being a NC team. Our D should have won ther game for us. What happened to our other kicker whose dad is a former NFL kicker?
I'm not off the bandwagon, but red lights and alarm bells are flashing and blaring an awful lot
We get the ball back with a minute left and a timeout - we have a good chance at winning that game - especially if we made the stop on 3rd down and are only down 3 points.
Next year will be even better. No reason not to win 6+ in the ****ty Big 12.
Doesn't he do kickoff for us. We clearly use him but let's be clear. Mata is on Prime. The ST coach wasn't gonna fight for Feely only for Feely to miss and the ST coach gets fired. He did what he was suppose to do. Let Prime guy kick. He didn't have the leg for it. When an accuracy guy misses a kick from out of his range, it's became he's overcompensating for it. That one is literally on Prime but if the ST coach went with Feely and Feely missed. The elite day he had today wouldn't matter, he would get fired.
