Heard a funny story about Barry Switzer yesterday

Math - how does it work?

Apparently back in the 1977 season, Switzer had been drilling his Defensive Coordinator's wife. DC finds out about it between the end of the regular season and the bowl game. OU is 11-0, ranked #1 and heavily favored to beat Arkansas in the Orange Bowl to win the national championship.

OU gets drilled in the bowl game and after the game the DC walks up to Barry, tells him he knows what he has been doing with his wife, and says that he called the wrong defensive alignments on purpose as payback. Then he quits.

I can't verify the stuff about the DC quitting, but the other stuff lines up with how the season went down. Heard it from a guy at our tailgate yesterday who knew some big OU boosters back in the day.

Given the performance of OU's teams in big games over the past few years, which assistant's wife is Big Game Bobby drilling? :smile2:

Larry Lacewell is the asst. coach who's wife Barry was banging (at least the one in this story). there's a lot of versions of the story i've heard about this over the years on OU and UT boards varying in detail and luridness. Lacewell worked with Switzer at Dallas so i guess they reconciled in a bros before ho's kind of way.

I'm pretty sure the bros before hos rule doesn't apply when someone f*cks your wife.

It does too, when both decide she wasn't worth a sh*t, ANYWAY!

That's awesome. So it really did happen. :rofl2:

Very Christian-like to be stirring the pot on a Sunday.

Last time I checked, this is a CU board. Making fun of Barry Switzer is always a good topic of conversation.

Had I heard a story about Tom Osborne instead of Switzer, I still would have shared it.

i guess something like that happened. the extent of Lacewell's "throwing" the Orange Bowl seems to be where the variation comes in. first time i heard it, it was that he sent the OU gameplan notes to Holtz's Arkansas staff's hotel the night before the game. so, like i say, there are variations.

but, you don't see a lot of denials on OU boards about the bangin'. that doesn't seem to be controversial.

Oh yeah, being surrounded by Sooners here, its pretty much taken as fact. I dont know what is or isnt true about throwing the game, but, pretty sure Barry was creaming in her crimson so to speak. (i literally have no idea what that means).

Err... well put!

Because, of course, Arkansas could never beat OU straight up.

Right. So you're going to sit here and tell me that this isn't aimed at UBT.

It's aimed at OU and Barry Switzer. If UBT wants to take offense, that's his deal. But I'll be damned if I'm not supposed to post it because a Sooner fan might object. This isn't an OU site. It's a CU site.

It's kind of an accepted story. I heard it a few years ago. Like Mick said, the details sometimes change a bit, but the part about Barry poking his DC's wife is not in dispute.

Wow what? I heard a story yesterday and repeated it here. It was the first time I have heard it, although it sounds like many others here already have heard it.

I doubt the guy who told me did it to piss off UBT.

Not the guy. You.

I doubt your ego will ever try to see what I'm trying to say though. So go ahead and try to act like you have no clue what I'm talking about.:thumbsup:

So are the people who've been talking about being glad OU lost to Texass yesterday out of line too??

I know exactly what you are talking about. I'm smart like that. And I still don't see why I should feel the need to worry about a Sooner fan on a CU board. Should we extend the same to NU fans as well and make sure we don't say bad things about their team and coach, too?

Lots of folks around here are not fond of either Osborne or Switzer. Is it still OK to say things about Osborne?
