Bad news for other teams in the Big 12 North if he gets the job. Can coach, recruit, PR - the total package.
He may not be a bad recruiter, but at Ole Miss he was blessed to follow Ed Orgeron, who is an AMAZING recruiter. Most of the top talent there was inherited by Nutt...
I would agree that he can recruit..
The Big 12 North will be a walk on the beach compared to the SEC West. No Bama, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas every year, Nubby, KSU, ISU, CU instead.:lol:true. Orgeron had 2-3 top 20ish classes in a row. also, Nutt pulling Snead off UT's bench didn't hurt. be a good hire for KU. seems kind of like a strange lateral move for Nutt....and he'll always be #2 to hoops in Lawrence.
Nutt's coaching acumen is overrated IMO.

Mangino is a better coach than Nutt
He wants out of Ole Miss because Ed O's talent is leaving
Please... his recruiting is subpar at best, he gets his team up for one or two games a year but his offense is elementary, and he doesn't develop qb's or a passing game. Oh and all those delay of game, false starts, and wasted timeouts that everyone out here hates about Hawkins, they happen just as often if not moreso with Nutt. He wants out of Ole Miss because Ed O's talent is leaving
that I agree with...
Nutt is a 8-4, 7-5 type of coach who might have one big season every four years.. I believe that record would be much more acceptable at Kansas than at Ole Miss who fired Cutcliffe after he had one losing year after winning 7/8 games every year. .
Well, RB, from your handle I can only assume you are an Arky fan also. I, for the life of me, wonder why Arky fan was so down on Nutt, my dad, who is an Arky alum, is the same way.
The guy won games at a .600 clip. Not the kind of success Meyer is having a Fla, and not Spurrier like, but a solid coach winning a heck of a lot more than he loses in the toughest conference in CFB.
Subpar recruiting? Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Ahmad Carroll, Nutt brought in some pretty decent talent IMO.
Maybe Arky can do better, and they may very well have their guy in Petrino, but Nutt was a pretty damn good coach if you ask me. Arky was pretty much an also ran before he got there. He didn't take them all the way but it's not like he sucked either.
He'll eat up the B12N. Mangino couldn't tie Nutt's shoes...hell, what am I saying, Mangino can't tie his own, but you know what I mean.
I'm not going to get into a big argument on a CU board about Nutt... but below average recruiting is one thing. Of those guys you named, Carroll was the only one that Nutt actually went out and got from out of state, we got lucky on Jones after alot of teams backed off after he tore up his knee his junior year. Darren McFadden committed to AR as a soph and always wanted to be a razorback, regardless of the coach.
Nutt was barely over .500 in conference, a 2-6 bowl record while at Arkansas, losses to Vanderbilt, not even making a BCS game with arguably the best backfield in college football history (McFadden, Felix Jones, Peyton Hillis)... and there was alot of scandal that went on as well behind the scenes with the program. Here it is if you want to read it. http://realhognews.blogspot.com/
Oh and we are far more than an also ran as a program... we are actually a top 20 program all time historically.
You are exactly right... those big seasons came when he had a freak athlete from Arkansas that always wanted to be a Razorback... Matt Jones that committed as a junior, and Darren McFadden that committed before he junior year of high school. Nutt is a lazy recruiter that will stumble on a great player once every two or three classes. He will get his team up for 1 to 2 games a year though that they shouldn't win, but he also will lose 1 or 2 a year that he shouldn't. In all honesty it would be a good thing for CU if he went to KU. Mangino was a far better coach then Nutt.
I don't want to get into it either, Arky was my team growing up, still think Ron Calcagni is the ****. I know the deal with the Springdale mafia and all that other jazz.
Arky was a top 20 team until Jack Crowe showed up. Between him, Kines and Ford, Arky was a .400 ball club for nine seasons with a grand total of two bowl games, both losses.
Nutt wasn't the second coming of Broyles, but he wasn't the hack many Arky fan, including my old man, make him out to be JMO.
I think he'd work the Big 12N.
Nutt whipped your ass twice at Ole Miss 23 -21 in 08 and 30 -17 in 09. His level of competition will drop like a rock when he gets in the Big 12 North.I'm not going to get into a big argument on a CU board about Nutt... but below average recruiting is one thing. Nutt seems alright, not sure it's an upgrade over Mangino. Whoever is coach there next year is in for a serious rebuilding effort. No more Reesing, Briscoe, or Meier. I doubt even Mangino could get them to a bowl game next year.

I don't buy it, GB won the Big 12 with Skippy's players. I never liked him, Skippy always struck me as a guy who enjoyed smelling himself. His talent at Kansas also wont be as great as what he had at ole Miss. I like to think as Nutt as a Rick Neuheseil type. Can do decent at first with soemone elses talent, but not as good with his own. Nutt would be a downgrade from Mangino.
