Coaching Carousel...

The word is that Logan desperately wants the CU HC job. Well, that ain't gonna happen given his current resume. If he really wants to be the HC at CU, then he'll have to be an assistant for a while. He'll have to recruit a kid at the college level. yes, he has tons of experience recruiting kids from the Denver area to play at Mullen, but he's not known outside of Colorado (very well, anyway). Somebody is going to have to tell him that if he really wants the CU job, he'll have to give up his side gigs. I can't imagine that he's hurting for money.

I don't disagree, but when he weighs the pros/cons of giving up his current gig, IMO will not happen unless he's HC.

I know that he has all his media buddies pushing for him....reminds me when CSU was looking for a coach to replace Sonny and Joe and Irv were interviewing the CSU AD and asked him to interview Dave Logan - the guys response was - "You cannot be serious!" Both Joe and Irv were insulted. Only in this Bizarre area would someone consider a local HS coach and talk show host to be the HC of a Division 1 football team. And fans eat it up.

He is no spring chicken anymore so time is passing him by(56 in February)...

I think his recruiting ability is a total unknown...

Todd Dodge down in North Texas would probably wish that he had taken a stepping stone as an OC somewhere before becoming a HC (even in the Sun Belt) as he might have saved his job this year but ruined his long-term options as a HC.

There is nothing wrong with Dave Logan doing what he does, but his window of opportunity to build himself a resume suitable to become HC at CU is closing fast. And, if he in truth expects to go from Mullen HC to CU HC without a few rungs on the ladder, he is not being realistic.

Not even Gus Malzahn went from HS HC to Div-I FBS HC. In fact, he is on the "hot track" to become a HC but still hasn't gotten that offer yet.

There's a two word answer to anybody who honestly says that Logan should be the next HC at CU - "Gerry Faust".

It's been tried, with catastrophic results. Faust was the most successful high school coach in Ohio. The guy was a local legend. Sound familiar? The bottom line is that if Logan is really serious about being a college coach, he NEEDS to take a job as an assistant at a college. I would have no problems with him as the WR coach or even the OC at CU, but as head coach? That's insane. The CSU AD was right to ridicule Irv and Joe for suggesting it. It's ridiculous. I have to suspect that Logan understands that as well. He's no dummy.

Tuberville is set to interview for the TT job tomorrow and Harbaugh is being linked to NFL jobs.

If Harbaugh bolted for the NFL it could open up some things in recruiting for us (Dillon Bonnel and others). They already lost their entire defensive coaching staff this offseason except for 1 guy who is like Foster's age.

ESPN reporting Charlie Weiss to become new KC Chiefs Offensive Coordinator.

And now that Romeo Crennel will be the new DC there as well.

Look for the chefs to be a very good team in another 2-3 years. Get a few drafts under their belt and that's going to be a very dangerous team. The Broncos may very well be duking it out with the raiduhs for last place in the division pretty soon.

Some interesting rumors keep popping up that Jim Leavitt will be forced out at South Florida.

Briles. apparently, will not get the TT job. Tuberville and Tommy BOwden appear to be front runners with Ruffin McNeill as the soft landing fall back position. No word on the color of the bean bag chair he is smuggling in his pants....

EDIT: AL DC may also be in the mix...

I hope it's not Bowden. That guy's only a mediocre head coach, but he's one of the best recruiters in the nation.

With Weis and Crennel on staff, they'll have a hell of a lot more under their belts than a few drafts....

Nothing, I just think it kind of sucks TT can get that type of established coach and we can't. Stupid hypothetical anyway though, I don't think either of them would work well in Boulder.

Agreed. IMO, the Big 12 N is fully recognized as the weak sister division. The last "name" coach to come here was GB. Everybody else has been going the assistant route for the last decade in the Big 12N. Even NU had difficulty filling the job after Slopitch was canned. KjSU had to ressurrect the cryptkeeper for cryin out loud. It's not just a CU problem, it's a Big 12 N problem. Most "name" coaches want to go somewhere where they will be supported.

If the situation going from Solich to Cally sets any kind of precedent, they are going to severely divide the team if they go with anyone besides Ruffin. Everything I've read says that the whole team really wants him as HC. Pretty much everyone at NU wanted Pelini in 03 when that situation was rearing its ugly head. If you have a beloved assistant who is competent, I'd say give them a shot for a couple of years. Seemed to have worked out pretty well at Clemson this past season.

Leavitt has been fired.

Wow.

Three schools who have never won squat: KU, TT and USF, fire the three coaches who got them into the win column...for what? Being hardasses. I am not defending their behavior necessarily, but I haven't heard anything that would be grounds for firing on any of them. This is starting to look like budget management.

Leach is being floated at USF, which given the fact USF plays in the Bucs Stadium, with accompanying Pirate ship, is just too funny not to be a possibility. Tubby is also interested, and TT may lose him to a better gig if they don't hop on it now. If I were Tubby, I'd go USF because of the player you can recruit there, the lack of any decent competition in the Big East and the near certainty of a BCS bowl every other year. Same goes for Leach but USF probably won't hire him becasue of his penchant for sheds.

Can't see Leach going to USF. If you just fired your coach for questionable conduct with a player, how do you justify replacing that coach with Leach who was fired for the same reason?

What did Leavitt do?

He apparently grabbed a player and slapped him. It was also a question of why players' stories changed throughout the investigation into the incident.

In the end, it sounds like his act was wearing thin on many around the program and many were questioning if USF could ever take the next step under him (he had a losing record in the Big East the last two seasons).
