Would be much appreciated if one of the recruiting geeks could tell me who the top Colorado kids in this recruiting cycle are and how our chances are of nabbing them.

Leilon Willingham, LB (Mullen)-Very good**
Brendon Austin, OT (Chaparral)-Very good**
Adonis Ameen-Moore, RB (Mullen)-Do not have a good feeling here**
Marquise Coleman, CB (Eaglecrest)-Could be the first commit**
Dorian Brown, RB/LB (Loveland)-Do not have a good feeling here**
Connor Healy, LB (Mullen)-Not sure if we will end up offering
Brock Berglund, QB (Valor Christrian)-Like our chances if we offer
Brady Daigh, LB (Mullen)-Do not have a good feeling here
JD Henry, TE (Chaparral)-50/50
Rayshon Williams, WR (Mullen)-Think he is destined to go out of state
Justin Hansen, OT (Longmont)-Think he will go out of state

**Denotes holding an offer from CU

Judging by the lack of effort from this staff when it comes to in-state kids, I'd be pretty reserved in my optimism.

I understand that the article in today's post really puts Hawk and staff in a bad light with in-state kids, but I disagree with the notion that Hawk is not trying to go after in-state kids. I actually never thought too much of Hinder, and I'm surprised we didn't put more effort into Onyeali and Bell. However, the staff did go hard after some good in-state talent, and I think they will continue to do so. Does that mean every CO kid ranked in the top 10 according to papers, Rivals, etc. are going to get offered? No. Of course not. But, I do think a good share of them will.

I just hope that Hawk sells the school...not him...I want him gone.

Corey Ayers, LB/HB (Legacy HS): will go out of state

Is that a "for sure" thing? I thought Corey came to junior day. Did he not like CU? Will he not even give us a chance? He seems like a pretty good player, and I think Hawk & Co. are interested?

By the by, I've seen you post several things like this about Corey and CU. Why the vitriol?

Legacy only posts about Ayers. Either it is Corey or a Corey stalker.

Disappointing that we have little shot at the Mullen RB.. Supposedly he's the best back since Lendale White from Colorado..

Well not a stalker. However, right now the only player(s) that has shown the ability is Ayers (LB/HB), May (TE/DE) and Pando (OL/DL) from Legacy to go to the next level. As far as is Hawk interested in Corey? Well yes I believe so, he has mailed Ayers and talked to him one on one at JR day. Now I do know this Ayers does like CU. He is planning to attend the summer camp to make sure they know he would like to play at CU.

But BUFFInVA just a fan. But, I do know this I think CU has only 12 slots for 2011 so they will be picky on players.

Aren't you Corey's dad? I thought you posted that here before. Either way, hopefully you give CU more of a chance, it sounds like they're interested in Corey.

I think there's something like 15 graduating seniors this year, so that's the current maximum allotment of scholarships available, but Hawk never over signs and when you factor in attrition it'll be high teens I bet.

Personally I'd say we have a decent shot at Moore next year, right now we're his only offer I think? Maybe us and CSU. If he doesn't become the top prospect like some are saying, then we have an even better shot at him. I'm really interested to see what happens with Dorian Brown, 6'1 225 and runs a 4.41 40, those are some nice measurables.

Damn I got caught Yes I am his dad. FYI I have seen Brown and yes he has really grown up from last year. When we sat next to him a JR days I had to ask Corey was that Dorian? It was like a different kid. As far as Corey I am sure he will give them and everyone a chance. Corey knows he needs to work on his size. At 205 and 4.6 40'ty he needs to put on another 20 lbs.

 I'm on it

If I recall correctly Corey had some pretty impressive tape, I'm sure the coaches will know what they can do with him after a year in the weight room. There was a LB CU recruited a couple years ago named Michael Clay and he was like 6'0 200. He went to Oregon and I figured for sure he'd be redshirted based on his size, but I saw him playing a few times this year as a true freshman. One of my favorite LBs ever was Zach Thomas, who certainly didn't wow many with his size, but damn that guy could play.

After the usual attrition I think we will have 17-18. If Corey is what you say/think he is than Hawk would be a fool not to offer.(insert insult) But I think being on the brink may bring him to him senses.

How does this jive with the previous post that says he will go out of state?

I believe he explained that. While there is mutual interest, it may be difficult to get a scholarship to CU for the 2011 class based on the number of slots expected to be open. Not a knock on CU or a knock no Corey. May just be a numbers game. But they're in contact and it's a possibility.

legacy17: please correct me if I've mis-stated the situation. (And thank you for your participation on this board. Very interesting to hear the candid perspective of a prospect's parent. I appreciate how difficult it must be for you in this whole process. My son's only 17 months old and I'm wondering why Urban Meyer hasn't made an in-home visit, let alone Dan Hawkins. :smile2: )

im confused on this numbers game with the available slots for next year.....

i have read that CU has undersigned the last few classes. add on the number of x-fers over the last few years to that. how do we come to the conclusion that CU is limited in the number of scholis they can offer next year? 'splain what i am missing here, please. thanks.

People tend to focus on the 25 scholarships per year max when talking about under-signing.

But there is also an 85 scholarship limit for all classes.

After signing the current class, we are at 83. (Plus Alex Lewis joining in Jan '11 and it looks like Shaun Simon will also be here in Jan '11.)

We have 12 seniors for 2010. So, right now CU is looking at 12 available slots for the 2011 class. That number will likely change with normal attrition. Also, it will likely change depending on where Hawkins grants scholarships to get to 85. If he grants to a couple senior walk ons, it opens up 2011 spots. If he uses them for underclassman transfers, walk ons or late qualifiers/signees, then they won't be open in 2011.

So, minimum of 12 open slots in 2011. Maybe we end up with closer to 20 once it all shakes out. This is why we're talking about it being a numbers game regarding whether there will or will not be room for Corey Ayers in next year's class. (This and how many LBs that CU takes and whether some 4* or 5* studs take up those slots like when we pulled Major and Katoa.)

that all makes sense, save the fact, how the heck did we get to 85 scolarship players with all of the attrition and undersignings i have been reading about? seems odd to me. im not doubting you, dont get me wrong. just a completely different story from what i was expecting given the numbers i had been reading regarding x-fers, guys moving on, non-qualers and years of under signing.....

thanks for the 'splanation though!

Maybe people have been over-stating the issues a bit? :wink2:

Edit: All that stuff you're reading about is normal for any program and people wouldn't be making a deal about it if we were winning. That's the bottom line and always will be. Most of the issues that are brought up are red herrings and the real issue is that we've been losing two-thirds of our games under Hawkins.

The buzz that started early for the 2010 class and ended up fizzling may actually be warranted for the 2011 class. Brendon Austin, Adonis Ameen-Moore, Leilon Willingham, Rayshon Williams, and Dorian Brown are getting lots of early looks (and in the case of Austin and Williams, several early offers) already. Expect to hear a lot about these guys when the Spring evaluation starts.

Adonis' offer list is not what most expected by this time. Is there questions about work ethic and conditioning?

My guess schools just are not sure what position he can play in college. He is already a big kid, so can he is more of a situational back at the next level? Also, with questions about his speed, can he flip to any other positions?

No, I'm not nearly bright enough for that. That's an original typo.
