Spencer Dinwiddie

Hawaii, Montana State and Santa Clara are his reported offers.

He's got the cutest little face! He does look very young though. :smile2:

He's got more offers than Hawaii, Montana and Santa Clara!!!

Buffnik/Valdez, any more news on this kid?

Looks like San Diego or Hawaii. Not sure the Buffs are even recruiting him at this stage.

http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/942025.html

“I’m hearing a lot from San Diego and Hawaii,” said Dinwiddie. “Among the bigger programs, I’m hearing from Arizona State, Washington and UCLA.”

Dinwiddie said ASU, Hawaii, San Diego, San Diego State and Santa Clara have extended scholarship offers.

Just curious. I always assume that when a kid pops up on our recruiting board, we are recruiting him. I'm wrong, right?

You're right, actually. At least at the time the profile is done, there is a report of CU recruiting the prospect. Generally, the only exception to that is in-state kids. Sometimes CU interest is listed as a default with the recruiting services (and sometimes we simply decide to follow in-state kids).

In the case of Dinwiddie, it was reported that CU was recruiting him back in October (I believe by ESPN).

Muchas gracias.

New info on Dinwiddie's recruitment on the Scout site this morning. http://colorado.scout.com/2/999746.html

“(CU has) the most head coach dedication,” Dinwiddie said, mentioning that he had a shoebox full of hand-written notes from new Buffs coach Tad Boyle.

The head coach’s dedication isn’t the only thing that sticks out for Dinwiddie.

“I like the playing style,” he said. “They made it clear from Day 1 that I’m a prime recruit and the playing time situation and academics."

***********

The article had a bunch more good stuff. Dinwiddie is going to come on an Official Visit (no date mentioned). He is also visiting Harvard and Oregon. He may also visit UNLV.

The info on basketball recruiting is notoriously bad. Kind of interesting that the info we had on CU not recruiting Dinwiddie any more, after early interest, was in March. It doesn't look like Bzdelik was doing a lot of 2011 recruiting right before he left despite it being such an unexpected (allegedly) move. I'm so much happier with recruiting under Tad Boyle.

Finally rated by Rivals (3*).

Has also picked up some new offers, including the CU offer being reported by both Rivals and Scout.

Dinwiddie just got back from visiting Harvard and will be making an Official to CU on October 15th. From the article linked below, it looks like it's going to be CU, Oregon or Harvard with each of us getting visits.

http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1128797

"With Colorado, I love [head coach] Tad Boyle. I have had an in-home visit with him. Colorado has proven that they can get players and if they stand out in their program, they are potential draft picks. That stands out to me because I have pro dreams."

Cali High rated Spencer as the #8 prospect in the state this cycle:

Spencer is the best passer on the west coast. At this level you see a lot of guys who just want to take their man one-on-one and make the flashiest play possible. Not Spencer. Dinwiddie has a knack for always making the right play and never forcing anything.

For those of you who missed the Buffalo Chips radio show, Adam from Rivals made a prediction that Spencer will be a buff! He doesn't make predictions when he doesn't have a real good feeling.

Spencer told Adam that CU is his #1. I didn't post it before since I hadn't seen that he made it public.

It looks like we'll sign Dinwiddie and Cain.

After that, I'm not so sure.

Dinwiddle and Cain would be a very good start, arguably better then CU has done in years at this point in the recruiting process. And the spring signing period always has some good players, late bloomers and others caught up in the numbers game at one or more of their favorite places (think Donnie Boyce years ago ... he was a late get by Tom Abamato, a guy who is back on the scene recruiting for CU now). The cup is really half full now (and rising) after a long time being close to empty. We can choose to regret loosing some of the high profile guys that showed interest or celebrate the fact that they even considered us with a visit and the recruitment of these two guys. This, coupled with the two 2010 recruits that they got leads me to believe that Boyle and his staff are off to a great start, especially only six months into their tenure

Great to have another basketball fan on the board.

It has been great to see the new coaching staff get on the short list of some top 150 players. I figured we'd lose out on most of them, but just the fact they were in the hunt for these recruits after 6 months on the job is a good start.

So as Dinwiddie prepares to enter a suddenly potential powerhouse Buffalo program, he has a message for Colorado fans.

"I'm going to work as hard as humanly possible so I'm ready to go right away. The coaches said I'll really have a chance to get a lot of early playing time and I definitely want to step in right away. We are going to challenge these Pac 10 teams and beat them. I'm going to do everything I can to get the best players to Colorado and just do everything in my power to make us winners."

It is extremely refreshing to hear that we're signing some big name recruits. I'm really excited for bball season to get started. I think this is going to be a big year for the buffs. I would not be at all surprised if we were a tourney team this year. We have the horses and I think our new scheme is just what we need to use them. Having a great season this year + a few more recruits in the spring = a great performance our first year in the Pac. I wonder if that played a role in Spencer's decision.
