2012-13 Bubble Watch

Virginia defeats Clemson 78-41 to improve to 16-6 (6-3). Their hopes are faint given where their RPI is, but if they can make it to 12-6 in the ACC, they have a good chance

great game going on. 72-70, illini ball. great basket by indiana to go back up by 2 after illini tied.

It's one thing to give up a winning basket, an uncontested layup is another. It would be like the Best of Times had he missed. Goddamit Jack u drop this ball your life is over lol. Luckily, for him, he made it.

NC State down big to Duke in the 1st half, State is just an abysmal road team. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't win another game on the road this season (@Clemson, @UNC, @GT, @FSU)

Maryland got a much-needed road win at VTU.

Missouri lost at aTm. Mizzou is really fading recently.

UCLA beating Washington might just end the bubble hopes of the Huskies while helping to cement UCLA's position in the tourney for now.

NC State losing at Duke doesn't put them in danger, but that 5-5 ACC record of theirs has to be cause for concern.

ASU beating Cal helps the Sun Devils chances a lot. They're now 18-5 (7-3).

My Toreros beat BYU 74-68 tonight. USD isn't terrible, but that was not a loss BYU could have if they want an at large bid.

No. That's a killer for BYU. They're going to have to win at Saint Mary's or take Gonzaga in Provo to have any hope. They've got a dangerous road game at USF up next and a tough home game against Utah State left, too. Opportunities for them, but they haven't given any indication that they're more than an NIT team.

Saint Mary's just destroyed Santa Clara on the road tonight. I expect USM to make the dance. Santa Clara needed this one to get in the conversation, so it looks like they're done.

"VTU"? Nik, you know better than that . Maryland hosts Virginia on Sunday. It might not be an "elimination" game, but it's close. Maryland's RPI is in better shape than Virginia's, but it's still just 66th. Virginia is 6-3 in the ACC while Maryland is 5-5. This is the first meeting between these two, they'll play again in Charlottesville the final game of the regular season. Virginia has to get to 12-6 in the ACC to have a realistic shot unless we want to play the "well if they get to the final of the conference tournament..." game.

Mizzou is just horrendous on the road, haven't won a road game this season. Suddenly they're only 16-6 (5-4) with an RPI that has dropped into the mid 30's. Don't look now, but 4/5 next upcoming games are: Ole Miss, @ Arkansas, Florida, @ Kentucky. Mizzou is on the brink of things getting a little dicey if they don't figure out how to win a couple road games. Let's call this for what it is: Frank Haith is not a good coach, his staff is filled with losers like Dave Leitao, and Mizzou will be declining

NCSU is struggling, losing 3 straight and 5/7. If they lose at Clemson on Sunday, it will be panic time in Raleigh even though they're completely safe (actually, the Wolfies already are freaking out because they actually bought the top 5 preseason hype)

Starting to look like Arizona State might just pull this off. They're on thin ice though with that RPI in the upper 50s though. After they play Stanford in Tempe on Saturday, they finish with 5/7 on the road including @CU, @UCLA, @Arizona. If they were to lose those 3, they might need to win all their other remaining games (Stanford, @Utah, Wazzu, Washington, @USC) and that's not as easy as it looks.

I mentioned earlier that they might not win another road game but even if that happens they're still pretty safe with the wins they already have along with that high RPI. Who knows what to expect out of this team in the tournament.

Most of Saturday's bubble games

Temple at Dayton. Owls are sitting 47th in the RPI and .500 in the A-10.

Michigan at Wisconsin. If Wisconsin wins this, they're safe. They've already beaten Indiana and are 7-3 in the B1G.

Florida State at Wake Forest. Must win for the Noles. at 13-9 and an RPI of 61st, they can't afford any questionable losses from here on out.

Ole Miss at Missouri. Two teams still currently in good shape, but Missouri is stumbling big time, and Ole Miss only has an RPI of 48th.

North Carolina at Miami. Heels are in pretty good shape, but face a difficult stretch of at Miami and at Duke

South Florida at Villanova. Must win for Nova, no bad losses allowed when you're 66th

Kansas at Oklahoma. Sooners have an excellent RPI at 21st. In good shape.

Auburn at Kentucky. Cats are playing improved ball lately, and Auburn is painfully bad.

Iowa State at Kansas State. Big opportunity for the Cyclones to get the sweep of KSU.

Texas Tech at Baylor. Baylor loses this and they're toast.

Stanford at Arizona State. Lunardi has Stanford in his 'Next Four Out' and has ASU in one of the 'play-in' games as an 11 seed. Huge game.
