2012-13 Bubble Watch

Wow, Wisconsin just tied up Michigan on a desperation 3-pointer to send the game into OT.

We need Michigan to win this one. I don't think Wisconsin will fall out of the tourney, but they're a team we could pass for seeding.

Also, it's officially over for Florida State. Losing by 26 at Wake Forest with under 2 minutes left. Wasn't FSU in the pre-season Top 25?

And Wisconsin beats Michigan. I'm not a fan of Wisconsin's style of play, but I can't help but respect the hell out of a team that can hold that Michigan bunch to only 2 points in an OT period.

Are we sure that Ole Miss is a tourney team? Coming into today, Lunardi had them projected as a 9-seed.

But they also entered the day with the #47 RPI. That is firmly bubble territory.

They're getting manhandled at Missouri, a good home team but not a great team by any stretch.

I'll be interested to see where Ole Miss is in RPI after today. Have to assume they'll drop out of the Top 50. Wednesday night at an improving Texas A&M team, a loss could put them on the wrong side of the bubble heading into the home stretch.

Yea 25th in the AP

Indiana State turned it on in the final minute to escape a home game against a crappy S lllinois team 66-65. ISU is projected to be on the correct side of the bubble right now at 16-8 and some quality wins, but I don't believe in them at all.

Florida State could easily lose at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech has struggled, but they have decent young talent and it showed against Virginia this past Sunday. Also, Florida State just isn't very good. They're going to either lose at Georgia Tech or lose at Wake Forest in one of their next two games, and that will be all she wrote.

Wake Forest 71 Florida State 46

Goodbye FSU.

And no, we're not sure Ole Miss is a tournament team. Certainly no lock.

I think Ole Miss is in good shape as long as they don't stumble down the stretch. All 5 of their losses are to teams with a top-50 RPI but they are lacking in the quality win department so they can't afford to lose any games they shouldn't.

Looks like UNC forgot to bring their refs today.

Haha. Yeah. Miami is destroying them. Canes may be playing their way into a 1-seed. And UNC is a team we could definitely pass for seeding. They also better not suffer any upsets down the stretch or they may be looking at the NIT. 4-4 in their last 8 is a real possibility. They better make sure it's not worse than that. No excuse for this, either. They share the ball, they rebound like crazy and they can score with anyone. Roy just hasn't been able to get them to play defense.

Arkansas must not have stopped partying since the night they rolled Florida. Lost today at an awful Vanderbilt team by 18 points. That bubble has burst.

Miami is playing the best basketball in the country. Simple as that.

Nice win for OU, this win pretty much seals a bid for them. Even though their RPI is very good they were still lacking a marquee win. Meanwhile this is KU's first 3-game losing streak in 8 years. No tears shed here!

This Louisville-ND game is kind of interesting because the Irish still have some work to do. Their RPI is only 50 and the only good win they have is against Cincy and that was at home.

RE: Miami. Just saw a scroll on ESPN that they're the first team to beat both UNC and Duke by 20+ points since Maryland in 74-75.

What do you guys think of Southern Miss and C-USA in general?

Is there an at-large bid coming out of C-USA if Memphis wins their tourney? UCF and UTEP could be dangerous for both in the post-season.

First ACC team to EVER beat Duke and UNC by 25+

I'm not really feeling Southern Miss as they currently stand. No good wins and blew back to back games against UCF and Memphis to fall to 18-6. Feasting on C-USA weaklings like Marshall and Rice doesn't really do it for me, and two of their wins are non-D1

ISU losing at KSU just now won't hurt them much, but winning would have catapulted them. Good result for us.

Pitt just won at Cincy. I think they'll both make the tourney, but looking at their remaining schedules Cincy is the much more likely team to slump and fall really far in the seeding.

Saint Louis won at Richmond. That probably ends the Spiders. And it would be good if Butler, VCU, La Salle and St. Louis separated from the pack in the A10. Separation could limit the league to 4 bids.

Another big game tonight is New Mexico at UNLV. Both teams have are in good bubble shape although UNLV could use another quality win. UNM's RPI is #3?? :wtf:

Denver is quietly starting to get into the conversation. 15-8 (11-2 WAC) with today's win. Not an at-large for them, but could win the AQ bid.

The A10 started to make a bit more sense.

UMass blew out St. Joe's today. St. Joe's likely done. UMass onto the bubble. They need more wins, though.

Xavier won at a bad Duquesne team. Xavier is capable of beating anyone, but loses way too much. Unless they get hot now, they should be NIT bound.

VCU won at Charlotte. That gets VCU close to punching its ticket while putting Charlotte way out of position despite their record (17-6, 5-4).

Finally, it looks like Michigan State is going to win at Purdue. Purdue shouldn't have been considered a bubble team, but they were. They came into this one at 5-5 in the B1G and a win over Sparty would have turned some heads.

Yea that pretty much kills Charlotte's chance for at an at-large bid even if they win at Butler on Wednesday. They have a nice record but not much substance there.

Alabama won at home over LSU tonight. That probably keeps their bubble hopes alive. They've got a lot of work to do, though. Their next game against a Georgia squad that's gotten hot lately likely decides their fate if they lose.

BYU just lost a home game to a San Francisco team that came in at 10-13. That should end any BYU talk for the tourney.

Louisville also got a big win at Notre Dame. The Irish fall to 18-6 (6-5) and they really don't have many great wins to hang their hats on. Easy week coming up (vs Depaul, @ Providence) and they better take care of business because their last 5 are @Pitt, vs Cincy, @ Marquette, vs St. John's, @ Louisville. Serious potential to finish with a losing record in conference play. Edit: Did I call this too soon? ND down 3 with 25 seconds left.

Notre Dame ties it up with the traditional 3pt play. Amazing.

Louisville had a 7pt lead with under a minute left.

And we're going to OT. ****ing crazy.

We're going to be sorting a lot out in the ACC here shortly. Florida State is done after their loss at Wake today. Virginia visits Maryland tomorrow. Virginia visits North Carolina next Saturday. Maryland hosts Duke next Saturday, their big chance to really vault themselves.

Carolina is no lock at this point, still having to face Duke twice and there are numerous other land mines like NCSU, at Maryland, Virginia, Florida State and even at Clemson. Anyone who follows ACC knows that Clemson is a very tough place to win, even when they're mediocre.
