The Buffs (10-10, 8-8) have been selected to play in the WNIT, and their 1st round game is against the Louisiana Rajun Cajuns (16-6, 13-1; I believe formerly known as Louisiana- Lafayette) on Monday at 1:00 PM MT. The game is part of the Memphis region, with this game in Collierville, TN, which looks to be around 30 miles east of Memphis.

Go Buffs!!!

Unfortunately, at least for me, looks like the whole tournament is only being video streamed on Flohoops, so won't be accessible to a vast majority of the country. On the bright-side, it does appear the normal audio telecast options are still available, at minimum for the 1st round.

Bracket - https://womensnit.com/documents/2021/3/15//2021_Postseason_WNIT_Brackets.pdf

From those:
  • This tourney does have consolation games, so every team is scheduled to play at least 2 games.
  • The WNIT consists of 32 teams, broken down between 4 regions (Memphis, Fort Worth, Rockford and Charlotte).
  • The winner of the Buff's 1st round game is scheduled to play the winner of a UT-Martin- Nebraska game, which is before the Buff game tomorrow, scheduled for a 10:00 AM MT start.
  • The winner of the Buffs' 1st round game is scheduled for Saturday at 4:00 PM MT, while the consolation game is supposed to start earlier that day, starting at 10:00 AM MT.
  • The winners of the 2nd round winners' bracket games will be playing in the regional finals on Monday starting at 6:00 PM MT. The losers of the 2nd round winners' bracket games will face off before that in a consolation game at 3:00 PM MT.
  • If the Buffs keep winning, looks like the Buffs won't have to travel far, as Memphis is also home to the WNIT final 4 and championship games.

MEMPHIS — The Colorado women's basketball team opens the WNIT against Louisiana on Friday. The Buffaloes will be making their first postseason appearance since the 2017 WNIT.

Colorado (10-10) has had its share of success in the WNIT. The Buffs are 14-6 all-time in the WNIT, including 6-0 in the first round of the tournament. The team's longest run came in the 2008 tournament, advancing to the semifinals.

This is the first postseason tournament experience for all 16 members of the Buffs. Colorado was on the verge of a WNIT appearance last season before the postseason play was canceled across the board.

"I'm very excited for my team," junior Peanut Tuitele said. "This is an opportunity for us to grow more as a team and to mature. Knowing we made the postseason is a huge accomplishment, no matter what the tournament. It's a huge accomplishment. There are a lot of teams that aren't playing [right now]. We are very grateful to be here.'

This year's WNIT guarantees teams two games, opposed to the normal 64 teams, one-and-done format. Also different from the Buffs' previous WNIT experiences, is the fact that the tournament is being played completely at neutral sites.

"We were excited to host a game [last WNIT] and that was really great, but it just felt like another home game against a different opponent," head coach JR Payne recalled. "I think this year it will have a tournament-type feel, like the Pac-12 Tournament or the NCAA Tournament where everyone is getting on a plane and going somewhere."

The Buffs are treating the WNIT as another rung as they continue to climb up the ladder of success. Teams that have played in the WNIT championship over the last five years are all in the field of 64 for this year's NCAA Tournament, with an average of being No. 4 seed.

"I think that speaks volumes to what postseason play can do for a team," Payne explained. "It takes maturity and things like that. I'm excited for us to have the opportunity."

One doesn't have to look outside the Pac-12 to see what trips to the WNIT have done for teams. In 2015 UCLA won the WNIT and has played in three Sweet Sixteen's and one Elite Eight since. Arizona has seen similar results, having won the WNIT in 2019 and spent all but the first week of the 2019-20 season inside the AP top 25.

"So many teams that make a run in the WNIT credit that postseason experience with preparing their team for the future," Payne added. "Every game is just as important."

Louisiana (16-6) was paced this season by Ty'Reona Doucet. She earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors, as well as the SBC Defensive Player of the Year. Doucet ranked third on the Ragin' Cajun's in scoring (10.7 ppg) and led the team in rebounds (154) and blocks (33).

Brandi Williams and Skyler Goodwin also earned SBC honors. Williams was Second Team All-Sun Belt, while Goodwin was Third Team.

Friday's tip is set for 1 p.m. MT.

This year's tournament will be streamed on FloHoops.com. Cory Lopez and Carrol Callan will have the call on the Colorado Radio Network, locally on AM 630 (KHOW), CUBuffs.com/Listen and TuneIn.

@AztecBuff any idea of the cost of Flohoops?

I just used my old Flotrack login, and looks like (to get all the FloSports content), they charge $29.99 per month. If you think you can find enough year-round to watch (I mainly watched Flotrack and FloVolley when I had a premium subscription a year or two ago), it's a much "better" deal, as they charge you $150 for an annual subscription, which works out to $12.50/month. I was often bummed they don't offer a pay-per-view option for individual events.

I can't find any indication that they offer cheaper subscriptions that just offer one of their channels (say Flohoops), but I'm not an expert on Flosports.

For any not aware, FloSports covers many different sports (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FloSports).

IF I was a rich man, I might subscribe myself, but I personally never felt I watched nearly enough the year I had my premium subscription to justify the relatively high cost. Even with the annual subscription, Flosports costs within 50 cents/month what a' combined Hulu/ Disney+/ ESPN+ bundle subscription costs, and the later obviously offers much more professional and varied content. Flosports did have some cool tie-ins- I think I remember being able to watch a Buff road non-conference volleyball game not otherwise available because a FloSports premium subscription included access to one of the conferences*** "extra" content that typically required a premium subscription with the conference or one of its teams.
(***From Wikipedia, looks like Flosports have (or at minimum had) tie-ins to both the Big 10 and Big 12.)

The Rajun Cajuns tied it up at 21 with ~4-5 minutes to go in the 1st half, but the Buffs go on a nice streak the rest of the quarter to go up 36-25 at the half.

The Buffs are 6-10 from 3 so far.

Besides winning easily, the Buffs were able to get the starters a bit of rest. No one had more than 29 minutes of playing time today. That should help tomorrow.

Hope that there will be extended highlights soon.

Looks like the Nebraska games tips off at 4pm (MDT).

Thank you. I decided I wasn't paying $30 in case I forget to cancel it. I only want to watch the CU games.

Just saw mention of the Buffs playing the Huskers in the Husker Hate Thread on the football board.

That got my juices flowing.

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Colorado's first postseason appearance since the 2017 WNIT did not disappoint on Friday. The Buffaloes led by 11 at halftime and cruised past Louisiana in the second half, opening its run in the WNIT with a 68-45 win.

The Buffaloes finished with three players in double figures. CU was led by junior Peanut Tuitele and freshman Frida Formann. Tuitele recorded her first double-double of the season, totaling 14 points and 10 rebounds. Formann got a late start but finished with 14 points. Mya Hollinsghed, who was held scoreless in the first half, finished with 10 points.

"All three of those guys including Mya, who was struggling early, are capable of picking up the slack," head coach JR Payne commented. "A lot of different people on this team are capable of picking up the slack. The best thing is that nobody really cares. Mya was struggling early and she was frustrated with the way that her game was going, but she didn't allow her frustration to deter anybody else and I love that. It's a pretty selfless group. I think Peanut's effort on the glass was incredible. I think a lot of her scores came from offensive rebounds or second chances. Frida just kind of got going, so then we tried to run a couple of things for her and she was able to knock those down, but I do love that everybody was able to step up tonight."

Colorado (11-10) remains perfect in the first round of the tournament, improving to 7-0. The win sets up a matchup with former Big 12 rival Nebraska on Saturday (4 p.m. MT).

"I learned very early in my tenure at Colorado that I cannot wear red, no matter what day of the week or no matter where I'm going," Payne said about the matchup with Nebraska. "When I know that, I know it's pretty serious. I just think it's two really good basketball teams. The coaching staff was able to sit and watch the game. We know some of the players on their team that we recruited. We know that team well. It's a little bit personal I think for a couple of their players and our staff. They are a really good basketball team and very well-coached."

TURNING POINT: The Buffs outscored Louisiana 15-6 to end the second quarter, setting up CU's dominant second half. Colorado took control was able to take control, outscoring UL 34-18 from the point of the 21-21 tie to the end of the third quarter. The run expands to 47-26 over the game's final 25 minutes.

KEY STATISTIC: Louisiana's 45 points are the fewest the Buffs have allowed this season. UL finished 17-for 58 (.293) from the field, the 17 field goals are the second-fewest by a CU opponent this season (14, Air Force).

UP NEXT: The Buffs move on in the main bracket, taking on Nebraska on Saturday. The Huskers advanced with a 72-46 win over UT Martin on Friday.

NOTES: The Buffs are now 15-6 all-time in the WNIT and 4-2 in games not in Boulder…It was exactly four years to the date of CU's last postseason win (Mar. 19, 2017 at South Dakota State, 81-75 OT)…Hollingshed now has 1,233 career points, chasing Jamee Swan for 21st all-time…Formann now has 55 3FGM this season, the most since Alexis Robinson in 2018-19 (55)…Tuitele's double-double was her first since Dec. 21, 2019 (third career)…CU is 41-28 overall against Nebraska…It will be the first meeting between the Buffs and Huskers since Mar. 2, 2011.

Always a positive to beat the fuskers. Enjoy blowing them out, enjoy tearing their hearts out in a close battle.

What matters is that we are better than them at everything. Keeps their annoying big red boosterism to a minimum.

Bigger deal though.

For a team that had real hopes of going to the big tournament playing in the NIT can be a let down. Then not having fans there and playing in gyms that resemble high school or practice gyms takes away from the motivation.

Coach Payne has this team playing hard. This experience should be a huge help next year when they as expected make the big dance.
