BOULDER—Colorado women's basketball went back to the transfer well on Sunday and announced the addition of Missouri transfer Sara-Rose Smith.

Smith completed three years in Columbia and will be a senior next season with the option of a fifth year.

"Sara-Rose will be a great addition to our ball club and we are very excited that she is joining us," head coach JR Payne exclaimed. "Adding length and versatility on the perimeter is always a priority for us and we are excited to have someone with Sara-Rose's experience joining our squad. I believe she will be able to play multiple positions and have a tremendous impact this year."

Smith, a 6-1 guard from Victoria, Australia, played in 31 games last season for the Tigers. She started five contests and averaged 6.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game last season. Smith led the team in rebounding and finished the season 14th in the SEC.

The 2022-23 season was Smith's best in her three years at Mizzou. She scored 207 total points and had six double-doubles, all of which came off the bench. She scored in double figures 11 times, including a career-high 16 points in an 86-69 win over Vanderbilt. She went 6-for-6 from the field, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range in 21 minutes.

Smith played in all 31 games in her sophomore year, averaging 1.5 points and 2.3 rebounds. She played 13 games in 2020-21, logging 56 minutes. She comes to Boulder averaging 3.4 points, 4.0 rebounds while boasting a 42.6 field goal % in her three years at Missouri.

Smith was a member of Australia's selection camp roster for the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup and helped Australia's 3-on-3 national team to a bronze medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics. She led Lake Ginninderra College to an Australian Schools Championship in 2019 after averaging 20.3 points, 12.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Smith also won a gold medal a the 2018 U18 Australian Junior Championships, averaging 9.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Smith is a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree and is majoring in journalism.

Smith's instagram post where she announced her transfer was very creative. Maybe they teach that in journalism now.

Edit - Article on the tourney - https://cubuffs.com/news/2023/6/12/...rado-set-to-play-in-paradise-jam-classic.aspx

"
BOULDER—The Colorado women's basketball team was picked as one of four schools to participate in this season's Island Tournament at the Paradise Jam Classic in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

The Buffs will play three games in three days during the tournament, opening against Cincinnati on Nov. 23. Colorado will also play Kentucky (Nov. 24) and North Carolina State (Nov. 25).

"We are incredibly excited to have our team participate in a prestigious tournament like the Paradise Jam," head coach JR Payne explained. "Our team is excited to be able to play such high-caliber teams and will be a great overall experience to be in the US Virgin Islands during Thanksgiving week."

It will be CU's first time playing in the tournament. Colorado leads the all-time series against NC State (1-0), last playing in 1997. The Buffs and Wildcats have split their previous two games, with CU getting the upper hand in 2016. It will be Colorado's first time meeting Cincinnati on the hardwood.

"The U.S. Virgin Islands is so excited to welcome back all fans and players this year," said Joseph Boschulte, Commissioner of U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. "Teams and fans will be staying at the all-new rebuilt Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman's Reef. The experience at the resort and dining at the island's restaurants will be top-notch for all involved."

The family of ESPN networks will broadcast the action.

Fan travel packages will be sold at a later date so you can follow your team to paradise. For more information leading up to the tournament, check out the Paradise Jam on social media, and our website paradisejam.com.

Good thing the Buffs will have a lot of depth this coming season as the Paradise Jam will have them play three games in three days.

Nice challenge against the defending NCAA National Champions scheduled to open the season!

BOULDER—The Colorado Buffaloes will open the 2023-24 campaign with a marquee matchup against the defending national champion LSU Tigers as part of the 2023 Hall of Fame Series as announced in conjunction with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and Position Sports on Wednesday.

The matchup will take place on November 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

"We are honored to be included in the Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas and to be playing LSU on Opening Night," head coach JR Payne stated. "It will certainly be an exciting environment to kickoff the 2023-24 season. We have loved playing in Las Vegas with the Pac-12 Tournament and are excited about this really cool opportunity."

The Buffs and Tigers are one of four games that are set for a quadruple header. The USC and Ohio State women will also play in the series, while Georgia and Oregon and USC and Kansas State will play on the men's side.

Colorado returns four of its five starters from its Sweet 16 run in the 2022-23 season. Jaylyn Sherrod, Quay Miller, Frida Formann and Aaronette Vonleh accounted for a total of six Pac-12 postseason honors last season.

LSU returns the 2023 Final Four Most Outstanding Player in Angel Reese, while also adding Louisville transfer Hailey Van Lith.

CU and LSU have matched up on four previous occasions, the last coming on Nov. 27, 2004, in Boulder. The series is split at two games apiece with Colorado picking up wins in 2001 and 2002.

Tickets for the event are scheduled to go on sale in July. On-sale date, game times, fan experience information, credentials and television broadcast details will be released at a later date.

That will do wonders for RPI while setting the bar for the team right out of the gate. Love it!

I would like nothing more than to see the Buffs give Kim effng Mulkey a butt kicking right out of the gate. I don't expect that to happen. I would like nothing more than to beat LSU and their cocky coach.

So not going to be a non-conference schedule of nobody teams.

Yup - Looks to be a much stronger non-conference schedule than in a long time.

Neutral Site Games:
• LSU (Vegas)
• Cincinnati (Virgin Islands)
• Kentucky (Virgin Islands)
• North Carolina State (Virgin Islands)

Home:
• Oklahoma State

Away:
• Air Force
• New Mexico State
• Southern Methodist

By my count there is room for four more non-conference games this season. My guess is that they will be at home. Would love to see Wyo and CSU, maybe Northern Colorado as well.

I still don't understand why it is so difficult getting home games. Teams can come to Denver and play CU, Wyo, CSU, Air Force, UNC, etc. without getting on another flight.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Colorado women's basketball team learned its conference pairings for the 2023-24 season with the Pac-12 Conference releasing each team's opponents on Wednesday.

Each program will play an 18-game conference slate, facing seven opponents both home and away and the four other teams once, two at home and two on the road. Specific dates, times and television selections will be announced at a later date.

The Buffs will match up twice this season against Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington and Washington State.

CU will host California and Stanford to round out the home slate while traveling to Arizona and Arizona State.

The Pac-12 led all leagues with six teams ranked in the final Associated Press poll of 2022-23 and tops the nation with six appearing in espnW's "Way Too Early" Top 25 for the 2023-24 season - No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Utah, No. 16 Stanford, No. 18 USC, No. 21 Colorado and No. 23 Washington State.

"Pac-12 women's basketball experienced great success last season and our teams and their fans are eagerly awaiting the year ahead," said Pac-12 Deputy Commissioner Teresa Gould. "Over the past decade, the dedication of student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the Conference has lifted Pac-12 women's basketball to amazing heights and we cannot wait for what's in store in 2023-24."

The Buffs will open the season in Las Vegas against the reigning national champion LSU on Nov. 6. Colorado will also play in the Paradise Jam Classic (Nov. 23-25) facing Cincinnati, Kentucky and North Carolina State.

The remainder of the team's non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.

I just receive a call from the athletic department and renewed my women's tickets. Hoping they get more support this year. The crowds definitely grew as the season went on. I expect them to be Top 25 all year.

Are they selling a Women's Sports Pass this year for WBB/VB/SOC? I see it on the CU site as a thing but there's nothing to put in the cart and no date listed.

Call them Nik. Please attend the home games. I can only do so much cheering from this distance.

I am thankful that I can at least watch the games.
