2025-26 CU Men's Basketball

I was told that Alon Michaeli was going to be a key member of the team this year. Imagine my surprise when he didn't get into the game on Monday night (and I hadn't heard of any injury).

Well, apparently he has a minor ankle injury and was held out as a result. I've been told he may play this weekend. And that he'll be a key player this year. (Mani and Big Leo are redshirting).

??? Our tempo has little to do with our opponent's shooting percentage.

This would be interesting to run a regression analysis on.

I’ll try to run on Claude when it is working again. I’ll do something simple if it can handle it. Opponent shooting % compared to our number of possessions from 2010 to 2025

I added all games that Tad coached at CU removed all OT games. And ran a linear regression of our FGA attempts to opponents FG% and the R is .022. Which means there is no correlation between the 2 variables. So what the **** @jumped ship

Haven't seen the stats but my gut says we played too uptempo to put up the classic Tadball box score
No need to overthink, it's the effort thing and Tad talked about it this morning. His own word:
When it's one on one, it comes down to pride. Comes down to just the ability to score and [Patrick McMahon] made some tough shots. But again, I go back to the scouting report, where a lot of his tough shots he made when he went right, we didn't make him go left… So, at some point it's gotta mean more. And right now, as a group it doesn’t mean enough to our guys, and some of them individually.

BTW: For anyone interested in CUBB, I recommend you to follow Hayes on twitter:

Great interview contents and analysis.

I wasn't really keying in on the fact that they shot >50%, more that Tadball is not synonymous with playing at a higher tempo.

Goddamn nerds coming at me for just posing a question haha

Get a hold of me. Again the schedule did me no favors so I’m only making single digit games.
I might also take you up on that if you aren’t able to make some. The absolute failure of the football team combined with Isaiah has me wildly excited for this season.

Only trusting this output because you used Claude and not ChatGPT.

We scored 84 with 13 points off turnovers, 16 fast break points, 8 steals and a 17/9 Asst/TO ratio. That's not your grandpas Tadball.

Of everything, the steals actually stood out the most for me. We were taking way more risks and being much more aggressive than typical IMO.

For anyone complaining about the defense, go watch some of the stuff MSU got to drop.

Complaining about the post defense is valid though.

Dak has to get his hands up in the post
I’m with this. Slightly subpar, slightly bad luck. That said, I will always give a Tad team the benefit of the doubt at the beginning of the year on D with the assumption it’ll get better as the season goes on.

Oh I didn’t mention that Claude was so worthless, it couldn’t get the data. So I got data from every year, put it in a spreadsheet removed OT data and extra columns and then exported a csv. Then Claude took so long to import the data and do a simple regression, I just created the scatterplot and trendline myself . So basically AI is still ****ty.

Dak could have used a little help from the guards, we were giving their bigs forever to go to work without collapsing in for a steal attempt.

There's a lot that goes into it and sometimes it takes a while. Especially the switch and help rules for team defense. That always seems to lag behind them getting good at forcing their individual guy to take a tough shot without fouling him.

Mani may never see the court. He’s on the team because of $$.

Tad must see a lot of potential in this team if he's coaching them this hard this early.
Tad loves basketball and loves coaching. He didn't love last years team and in fact didn't like last years team. He just couldn't connect with them and get the culture he wanted.

He's had that happen one other time in the past. He was highly unhappy, almost looked like a guy who wanted to quit.

The next season he changed over his roster and had a team that he connected with and had a year he enjoyed, I'm trying to remember which year that was.

I'm getting the same vibes from him this year. After horrible year last year he seems to be really enjoying coaching basketball again. He has a core of talented young players who he sees potential in. My sense is that he sees this team being better than outsiders expect it to be and to be the foundation for future success.

B12 is a hard league to turn things around in but they have some players who may be the start of just that.

Was it Ski's senior year? Looking back at the rosters, it's hard to remember the specific one because we had a stretch where we had either Jelly, Kin, or Evan on the team for like a 7-8 year stretch

Trying to remember which, I do think it was one of Ski's teams. It was a team that should have been good but just had bad chemistry. There was friction between the players and they didn't respond to Tad as a coach. You could see by the end of the year that he was just ready for it to be over with.

I think it was actually the 2016-17 season, the one year we had Derrick White. That team started 4 5th year seniors (White, XJ, Wes, Fortune) and a 4th year junior (George King) and proceeded to start Pac-12 play with 7 straight losses. Tad was visibly frustrated most of the season.
