2025-26 CU Men's Basketball

Wasn't someone banging someone else's girlfriend on one these squads which led to some major discontent?
I forget which team, but I think it was XJ, who was also a bad influence on Wes's professionalism.

There were a handful of transfers out around then too, IIRC it was when Tad first landed a few 4 starts. It felt like it kind of soured him on the higher ranked guys for a few years.

Iirc Spencer banging Roberson’s sister didn’t go over well either.

My buddy in college lived right across from Spencer and let’s just say they were noisy neighbors

When the banners first went up, probably in the 80's, that is where they were hung. They have been there ever since.

Too many AD's have not cared about the basketball programs or the Keg.

As far as pulling out the seats behind the team, I don't know if that should happen. Do it on the other side of the arena. The students were originally in Sections 22 and 23. It as GA. Then it became reserved. I don't remember when they got moved to where they are now.

At one time, my men's season tickets were where the students are now.

The AD uses the seats behind the bench for the CU players and staff tickets. Having been to all kinds of arenas, comp tickets are often in the rafters. CU gives visitors tickets behind their bench also.

Iowa State has 2 rows of comp seats behind the bench, Then it's to the rafters. I was able to sit in the 2nd row exactly once in all of the years I went to Ames.

Iowa did take out some stadium seats and put in bleachers for students over the summer. They are on risers. They don't look all that sturdy and there are not very many of them.

The seats are behind the baseline. "the new student seating arrangement features riser platforms that are expected to hold around 200 people for both men's and women's basketball and wrestling." https://hawkeyeswire.usatoday.com/s...t-look-courtside-student-seating/86714540007/

I've always thought that they should move the bathrooms to the outer walls, bust out those corners, and convert them into club/luxury boxes.

I wrote about the students on the side of the court before -- thought you might be interested in this look at the Michigan/Iowa/Notre Dame basketball experience.

The Michigan experience is probably most on point here.

I have been to Carver Hawkeye several times over the years to watch CU women's basketball. I

The first time was right after Sheetz graduated. I know our group was invited to her parents' home and that probably would not have happened if she was playing. We played Pat Summit and lost. That was before the tv screens, etc. were happening.

Since I moved back here, I have been to regular season games and NCAA games. I have also been to volleyball there. Volleyball now has it's own venue.

I loved having the tv screens all over the corridor around the court. Saw that at the volleyball court at Minnesota. CU needs tv monitors.

The bathrooms definitely need to go.

I don't care for the uppity luxury boxes and see no need for them.

Iowa has about 6 elevators as opposed to CU's 2. They actually have an elevator operator as not just anyone can get on the elevator. The operators I have seen have all been elderly and very talkative. From the elevator, you walk out to the court through the players tunnel. The behind the scenes space is also a dedicated tribute to former players and wrestlers. Security holds people back while the teams are exiting or entering the court.

Did you happen to see the Chris Street tribute? It is beautiful and well thought out to pay tribute to a player who was killed in a car accident on a snowy night in Iowa City. His free throw record still stands because Jordan Bohannan purposely missed a free throw.

After the last NCAA game there when I expected to attend two games and see a Colorado-Iowa game, I did see Clark warm up and play. I think she was a freshman. Could still see her star power. At those games, neither Colorado nor Iowa played in the 2nd round.

Iowa loves basketball and it shows. I know the women still sell out their season tickets since Clark graduated. The markup for resellers is nothing like it was. The walk to CHA is like you described. It's very non descript until you walk inside.

Hilton has it's own Hilton Magic in Ames, but it doesn't have the history in the building unless it's been done in the last 10 years.

I enjoy your writing.

I can't imagine ever buying a luxury box ticket, but from following sports, I understand they're important to attract big spenders to the games, and that big money likely leads to donations.

You haven’t sat next to me before, you would be begging to buy a luxury box after 15 minutes.

Neutral site game vs Stanford (97) is a very big deal for CU's bubble resume this year. Also, NoCo game is underrated for the resume with them at 107.
