I disagree with your claim that it is objectively right. It may be "right" in your opinion that players should be able to leap from school to school every year without reprocussions, but that does not make it fact. Who is is right for? The individual? That's one perspective, but there are others to consider. The collective, the family, the team. Some may consider honoring those things more "right" than individual short-term pursuits. You may think them trivial, but your definition of right is not everyone's.
 
You just aren’t used to have core capitalist principles applied in sports because the pro leagues there are run like socialist utopias. That’s the core issue here. The core right to pick your own employer v socialist rules that can be seen as arbitrary that massively restrict the players’ freedom to pick their own employers to ensure a certain level of competition among all teams.

The only thing that I think is really tricky is that schools get no compensation for losing the players when they transfer.

It's kind of stacked against the players. They have to enter the Transfer Portal and give up their scholarship in order for other schools to make contact (if NCAA rules were being followed). So they're taking a risk in many of the cases. Not an issue for the top guys and not even really much of an issue for the starter-caliber players. But a whole lot of guys in the portal don't find a new home.

Me (College Football fan) - that sucks. I wish there were some requirement for schools/players to have a more stable and solid contract to prevent everyone from jumping ship constantly.

Every time college football has changed in the last 20 years or so I think it has been to the detriment of the sport. But I suppose it was inevitable. Maybe winning (if it happens) will bring me back, but I'm not sure.

For now I can’t wait to see a rocking full Folsom, the Buffs winning games and getting back into the National discussion.

I’m all for solving all the issues you mentioned and it doesn’t feel like the CFB I remember or want. The NCAA and the powers in charge are going to have to figure this all out for us. Until then, just glad to have CU football be fun again.

By not immediately following CP to CU, and stopping to consider his options, he is demonstrating he's his own man and should be seen as "independent". Then, he can sign and be a Buff. I hope.

In terms of options, would he really want to line up against CP at usc? Worst choice.

Hunter was the #1 recruit in the country - all the NIL opportunities he may be weighing right now he probably had last year too and he chose to play with Coach Prime. It’s not like Georgia and USC are only now interested in him after this season, so unless it was always just a 1 year deal to share the spotlight with Prime and elevate a HBCU with the intention to return to blue blood, big money football, my hope is his time with Prime makes CU the team to beat.

Now do coaches.

The previous system was fundamentally unfair and was exploitative of the players. There are flaws in the current system but at least it’s a much more fair system.

And a bunch of adults exploiting teenagers and young adults to enrich themselves was a gross system.

Do you think coaches being able to demand fully guaranteed contracts from public institutions is right? Do you think public institutions owing coaches massive amounts of money if the coach fails at his job, but the coach can leave with relatively little reparations for the school is right? This is kind of the crux of the argument. I don't know why we are OK with coaches doing all of this, but not the players.

Also, I'm going to say this again because you keep glossing over it, but I believe there needs to be rules in place to govern the concepts of freedom of movement and players getting paid. I believe players should be able to choose their school and capitalize on their NIL, but I am not in favor of free, unrestricted transfers and the blue bloods paying for play. I think it's bad for the sport and bad for the vast majority of the fans of CFB.

At least not unless there is some form of compensation involved as under the current system all the time and coaching you sink into developing a guy can be all for nothing if he gets a better offer and just says "see ya, thanks for the ride".

Yep. The toothpaste is out of the tube and the only way to keep CFB a national sport is to "NFLize" it as soon as possible. Commissioner, player's union, collective bargaining, rev share, rules for transfers, transparent NIL deals, agents, etc.

That runs completely opposed to the current capitalist structure of the sport.

The networks know this is best for the sport and they are pulling the strings. It's moving that direction, it's just happening at a snails pace.

They are positioning the B1G and SEC as the AFC and NFC, even with FOX being the B1G's network of choice and ESPN being the SEC's network. They will each expand to secure more inventory in MTZ and PTZ, and then close off the playoff to non P2 members.
