All in One DirecTV Hates Pac-12 Network Thread (Was Larry Scott Thread)

A glimmer of hope for those of you stuck on DirecTV.

It looks like DirecTV's rights run out at the end of next year and Google is interested in picking them up. I would imagine that it would be offered on Chromecast, which is awesome BTW and has huge potential.
http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/devices/chromecast/#netflix

I personally have no use for NFL Sunday Ticket. For some, that seems to be the only reason to keep DirecTV. I get my home team on local channels and use Red-Zone for fantasy football updates on Sunday. I have had DirecTV in the past and hated their customer service(freebies aside), tech and pricing. I switched to DISH which has been much cheaper, offered better technology(DVR), more HD channels and kept better than average customer service. (PM me if you plan on switching)

DISH has shut off AMC and FX before and only offers standard def ESPNU(could change in the future) but I manage to download programs(Breaking Bad, SOA) and watch non-HD Buff BBall games. This is all worth having the P12 channel for me.

:yeahthat:

I don't think DTV gets Sunday Ticket again. I am not sure about Google or Microsoft either but I think they will be outbid by someone.

I am still holding out hope for Uverse. The fact that it appeared on their Online guide for a few hours makes me think that it is coming. If not I switch to Dish.

that is what logic would dictate, but I have been a customer less than 2 years, would have to pay a $360 penalty to leave and they offered me $35 a month plus free red zone for the season.

has anyone had any luck getting something beside red zone, like hbo or a reciever. Don't really watch very much NFL football, so it would be useless for me.

Didn't get RedZone or Sunday Ticket this year, but like BuffUp above, I got a Genie and whole home DVR free for a year, plus an HD-DVR for the bredroom instead of just the remote genie box.

I truly think this is on them (PAC12) - DTV said they would sell just the channel to those that want it and PAC12 channel wants everyone to pay that has service. I for one would be willing to pay additional $ for the PAC12 channel if offered. btw - been DTV customer since their first year in service and on auto-pay (which helps)

As consumers, most of us would probably pay 30 bucks a month for the PAC 12 network, cancel after football season or basketball season then subscribe again the next September. Would be great for us, DirecTV and other MSOs. Would suck for the conference though as the network would more than likely fail.

As sports fans, we benefit from how the RSNs (PAC 12, Big 10, MLB, ESPN, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports regionals, ROOT, etc. ) are carried by our providers. Getting on the basic tier inside the footprint for major metros like Los Angeles, Bay area, Tempe, Seattle, etc. is why the network is going to distribute millions of dollars to the member schools.

If the PAC 12 allowed DirecTV to offer it a la carte, it would be a brand new precedent for these RSNs. And a precedent as sports fans, we aren't going to like. So DirecTV will play that card while understanding it would be a death blow to the PAC 12 and others.

Not everyone in Los Angeles wants to watch the Lakers, but every single cable household is paying 3+ dollars a month year around for the Lakers Network. Is it fair? Probably not. But as been discussed many times over, the alternative (a la carte) programming could very well be worse.

I understand you guys taking the freebies -- but really hate reading about it.

At this rate, DirecTV is never going to give in and the P12 will be without the considerable exposure and revenue they would provide.

Re: Larry Scott: No DirecTV for Pac12Network this year

I finally called DirecTV to complain. They were pretty cool. They offered me $300 in Ralphie Bucks to keep my service.

On my phone so I can't rep, but that **** was seriously rep worthy.

One more rant on what DirecTV is telling their subscribers about the content.

The PAC 12 was the first conference to retain both Tier 1 and Tier 2 content for the network. So when they are telling you none of the games on the network matter, what they are saying is the PAC 12 as a whole doesn't matter. We are asking for the same carriage fee the B1G network receives, only with theoretically superior content. Even more insulting IMO.

Finally made the phone calls & it's adios DTV for the Binary household.

DTV offered $20 off for 12 months and another $15 off for 15 months and free Sunday Ticket for a year. But, they couldn't offer P12. So I'm going with Dish. I hope I don't regret this...

**** you Larry Scott for making me a pawn in this game and **** you direct tv for trying to play me against my alma mater.

I have had Dish for ten years now...I have been pleased...you did the right thing.

And for those of you with DTV, no longer under contract, and no intention of switching, I second the earlier suggestion of calling anyway and saying you want to cancel with the reason being don't have the P12 network. Just be nice about it and the offers of discounts should come.

Their plan of attack really does seem to be to bash the P12 and offer $$ and Sunday Ticket to keep you (the $$ discounts were offered without hesitation, the Sunday Ticket took me saying "if you could also offer the Sunday Ticket I'd be a little more tempted to stay since I am a big football fan").

Re: Larry Scott: No DirecTV for Pac12Network this year

At some point these $35 discounts are going to hurt other bottom line. I just hope it doesn't take a million subscribers getting a discount to make something happen.

With ESPN offering its content to internet providers, I would be delighted to see a landslide of sports content become available this way. Then I could kill DirecTV (still under contract from all the bennies they gave me last year when I complained about the Pac12 Network), without going to cable.

A few talking points when on the phone with DirecTV:

DirecTV says they want to sell the PAC-12 to only those that want it. The Big Ten Network is on the Choice package in every state in the union and is reportedly getting 97 cents per sub within Big Ten Market (http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/sports/psu/new-tv-markets-to-test-big-ten-665701/). The PAC-12 network is on Dish 120+ (the equivalent of Choice) ONLY in PAC-12 markets and sports package outside market, and reportedly asking 80 cents per sub in market. PAC-12 is asking less per sub and with less distribution than the Big Ten network. DirecTV needs to stop being hypocritical.

DirecTV says there are no good games on the P12N.
From the entire 2012 regular season (not including conf championship games or bowl games):
43% of games where a PAC-12 team beat a team that finished the season ranked were on the PAC-12 network.
25% of games where a PAC-12 team beat a team that was ranked at game time were on the PAC-12 network.
6% of regular season games across all of college football where both teams finished the season ranked were on the PAC-12 network.

DirecTV says there aren't that many games on the PAC-12 network.
In 2012, the average PAC-12 team had 4.5 games on the PAC-12 network. The low was USC and Oregon at 3, and the high was Cal at 7. Weaker teams (sorry, like Colorado) can probably expect 50% or more of its games on the PAC-12 network.

Larry Scott: No DirecTV for Pac12Network this year

Everyone needs to start telling their friends and coworkers to call and threaten to cancel in order to get bill discounts. Especially those people that aren't even P12 fans. Time to make this expensive for DTV

Thanks PAC 12 network guy.
You're trying to sound sarcastic but he's making a valid point for CU fans. Most of our games will be on the PAC 12 network this year and for the foreseeable future.
I understand that people like the NFL, (personally could care less and only watch the RedZone) but to brag about the freebies you're getting and not switching because of that, seems kind of foolish or you'd be on the bronco, or whomever's message board.
DTV is trying to get something for nothing. I've had Dish for years and their customer service has improved tremendously. Noting to fear there. Prices are fair and you will get to see the Buffs and other PAC teams as much as you can handle.
So...unless you're a NFL junkie, who lives out of the footprint of your favorite team, dump DTV and support the Buffs. Most alumni don't give directly to the university, with justification in more reasons than not, this is the way to do so. Fu€k DTV. Their monopoly is about to end.

Go Buffs and kick those lame ass lamb asses to the curb next week.

Thanks PAC 12 network guy.

Your welcome. Here's a few more facts from the 2012 regular season to throw in DirecTV's Jedi "there's nothing to see here" campaign.

40% of games where both teams finished ranked involving at least one PAC-12 team, were on the PAC-12 Network.
7% of upsets by lower ranked (or unranked) teams over ranked teams in all of college football occurred on the PAC-12 network.

Great talking points for PAC12N to negotiate with DTV. But the customer service rep you get when you call them as a customer isn't going to give a **** (or if they do, like the CU fan I got on the line last year) can't do a damn thing about it....

I want Sunday Ticket not just for the Bronco games but so I can watch the game of my choice on Sundays and DTV was willing to give me it for free, and it's not a cheap package. As for non-CU college games, all the other ones I'm interested are already on the air on some channel.

The CU program is down and as it currently stands 2 of the 3 games on P12N are CAU and Oregon. Games against FCS competition are glorified scrimmages (although in our case than can be argued...), and the Oregon game is likely to be unwatchable after the first couple of series. Granted, it will suck missing such huge games as NAU-Arizona, Sac State-ASU, Weber State-Utah, and Portland State-Cal but I guess I will just have to sacrifice those barn-burners.

Getting freebies out of DTV helps, too. If they have give away too much stuff, that impacts their bottom lone, too. Get your free stuff! Milk those bastards for every penny! Ask for stuff you don't even want. Demand free porn for a year. Ok, bad example. Everybody wants free porn. You get the idea, though.

Called this morning. The problem is that I truly like DirectTV except for this PAC-12 carriage bull****. I have Comcast for internet and I've had them in the past numerous times for cable, and can't stand them.

Anyway, after presenting a lot of reasons and costs that I would incur, I was able to squeeze out $10/month discount for a year, and free NFL Ticket Max for this year. This wasn't part of any deal to start; then they offered it for half price, but that was still $149. I held firm and finally got them to give me the NFL Ticket Max for free. The lady had to put me on hold for a while and get approval from her boss.

In case you're wondering, I'm a displaced Bears fan, so NFL games are important to me, and I saved money by not having to head to a bar for 5-10 games this season.

I did my best to put the squeeze on them. I got the same message everyone's been getting regarding the negotiations. She kept mentioning that they made the offer to put the network on a package or to offer games PPV.
