College Football News, Rumor & Humor

Joel has a narrative to push due to who he’s employed with but he’s also not wrong. I would say SEC is still the best top to bottom, but there’s no great teams, whereas the B1G has had multiple great teams each of the last few years with a whole lot of ass in the bottom half.
*middle-to-bottom

The SEC top is clearly not part of a best discussion.

I’d disagree top to bottom the bottom four to six in the SEC have been absolute ass each of the last three years (really longer). A Memphis team beat Arkansas this year and Memphis was only 4-4 in its own conference. Remember Auburn losing at home to a Cal team that was pure trash? We could give tons of examples. The SEC is JAC (just another conference) and is fully on par with the ACC and BIG12. All of these conference are also behind the BIG at the moment because of the power at the top.

Notre Dame deserves to be penalized for not playing in a conference. People talk about the weak opponents that they schedule and they are right.

Truth is that the top P2 teams all have some free wins built into their schedule as well. They start with some MAC or AAC teams then play some weak confernce teams like Purdue, Northwestern, Arkansas, Mississippi State, etc. The Big XII and ACC schools play some cupcakes as well.

A real difference though is that the way they schedule the Irish rarely play two tough opponents in a row, almost never three. They set their schedule up with weaker opponents mixed in so they can rest key players and focus extra time on the tougher opponents.

Notre Dame played two eventual playoff teams and lost to both. The only team they beat all season that ended up in the top 25 was #16 USC.

Nobody has the courage to stand up to Notre Dame because they generate major TV ratings but it's ridiculous that they want to make their own scheduling decisions to their favor and still get favored for the CFP.

If it’s true, coaches can’t get out of their own way lol

It's true, but the full story is a compliment to Freeman.

Opposing coach started in on Freeman's son. Marcus stepped in and stopped, without getting violent, what the other guy initiated.

Other guy then files a police report. May have already been dismissed.

This looks like another case of some asshole trying to punch a lottery ticket by manufacturing an altercation with a celebrity, filing a police report and then trying to sue.

I used to work a lot of high school wrestling matches and tournaments (official scorer.) There were always a lot more volatile individuals and incidents than for any other high school sports. Our district always made sure to have both an administrator and a uniformed deputy on hand at all wrestling events.

The nature of this event as reported doesn't surprise me in the least. While it is possible that Freeman and his wife may have contributed to the conflict my sense is that you are correct that he was the one who in fact de-escalated the situation. I also don't know that there was any conscious thought of taking advantage of his celebrity. I've seen enough high school wrestling coaches to credit at least the initial incident to the opposing coach simply being a hotheaded asshole. His filing of the police report would then be his attempt to cover up and create a cover for his lack of self-control.
