Colorado Buffaloes @ The UW Huskies 2014 Basketball Game thread

Sorry for this, but i have to get this out right now.

Man, my gut hurts right now. I don't think it's the leftover Chinese food I ate either. I'm feeling sad for Spencer, his family, the basketball team, our fanbase, etc.

However, at the same time, I know that we must find a way. This negative event needs to be turned into a major bonding and team building experience. Not only that, as fans, we need to be able to see how we can continue to keep our expectations high, even through such adversity. This means we need to really BRING it at the rest of the home games, no matter what. We need to do our part and show that this team is deep and strong. All the experience the young guys got during the ooc season is going to really matter now. I'm trying to talk myself through this, but man this hurts. Getting my butt to the UCLA game is gonna be bittersweet.

Positivity is going to be important. I'm not talking unrealistic talk, but constructive talk. Yes, we have major issues that need to be addressed with this team (such as guarding the three), but this is Tad's chance to show just what he's put together here in the last few years.

Take care everyone.

^^this!!

+ 1 - great post Goonie

Not trying to be cliche here, but this team is more than one player. They'll just have to play better and harder.

This is very true. This team has accumulated more talent than we are giving Tad credit for. It is young talent but there is a lot of talent here. We will see how Tad rallies the team and picks them up. Tad will get them ready moving forward but this team will need a leader to show up as well. Scott, Ski, XJ, JHop, Wes, we will see but I think one will step up.

Do not forget Spencer's contribution from the bench.

Its like having another coach, but with player privileges. He'll come out of this with more basketball smarts and more developed motivational skills.

It's something that CU can adapt to, but Spencer was the most important player on the team. Freshmen are going to have to grow up fast.

I was at the game today, sitting 2 rows behind CU bench (gotta friend in the UW athletic dept). I'll post thoughts about Spencer in that thread, how the team and Tad reacted, etc.

I think we got really exposed today. We simply cannot defend the perimeter. It's not just about getting a hand in the face, it's about denying the ball getting there. And we play some very good shooting guards down the stretch. Then, with our shocking lack of outside shooting all year long, when we get behind by more than single digits, we are basically done. There can't be another ranked team in the country that is as inept at outside shooting as us. It's really stunning to see. We hit ONE jump shot today (an XJ three.) Now, post Spencer, we have exactly one consistent offensive threat, Scott. Can we really count on anybody else night in, night out? Sure, Ski and XJ will have their games, and Wes will be solid, but unless someone just steps up big time, we'll struggle to get to 60.

Its hard to find optimism after watching the last two games, and with Spencer done.

Oh, and I dont know if this happens at all road conference games, but the UW students just rode Ski relentlessly, chanting his name. Did the same thing last year here, when Ski had a miserable game as well. Gotta be tough on him, mentally. He's a 20-year old kid, being taunted relentlessly. I don't know if it's his tats, his look, size, or whatever, but they target him from the start.

Dinwiddie's injury is definitely the headline (karma to him).

Who else caught Ski's stats? 0-9 field, 0-2 from three, 0 ft's, 3 to's, and 3 pf's. W.O.W.
