CSU roster for Lookalike suggestions

A preview of the game (and review of the Northern Iowa game) from yesterday - https://cubuffs.com/news/2019/12/11...s-for-friday-matchup-with-colorado-state.aspx

"
BOULDER — Wednesday morning's film session for Tad Boyle's Colorado Buffaloes didn't offer any newfound revelations.

It only confirmed what the Buffs knew in the immediate aftermath of Tuesday night's 79-76 home loss to Northern Iowa — the visiting Panthers beat the Buffs at their own game. Northern Iowa shot 14-for-26 from 3-point range, came up with critical defensive stops when most necessary and outrebounded the Buffs, leading to the first time this year Colorado has been outscored in second-chance points.
...

But the Buffs won't have much time to lick the wounds from a rare non-conference home loss. Directly ahead is a Friday night matchup at Colorado State (6 p.m., CBSSN) at Moby Arena. While the Rams are just 7-5 this year, the rivalry aspect of the matchup and CSU's home-court advantage makes it another difficult test for Colorado.

Throw in the fact that the No. 24 Buffs have now lost two in a row after a 7-0 start and it means sense of urgency will be a requirement, not an option.

"Every game is a priority," Boyle said. "If we beat Northern Iowa and somehow sneak away with a win, the Colorado State game is just as big. But now we're going to be tested — our toughness and our character. We failed the test (Tuesday) and we'll see if we pass or fail on Friday."
...

"We have to get better," Boyle said. "It's no different when we were eking out wins with offensive inefficiency. It's no different than losing a tough game at home. We played well enough offensively and we didn't get it done. So we have to get better. That's what November and December are all about. The frustrating thing for me, and I'm sure for our fans, and is this is a veteran group. The growing pains that most teams go through, this team shouldn't go through. But we are. And so I think sometimes maybe our guys are thinking about the wrong things."

FIRST LOOK CSU: The Rams improved to 7-5 after a 72-68 win over South Dakota State at home Tuesday. Big man Nico Carvacho, who has been a thorn in CU's side for the last three years, leads the team in scoring (13.3 points) and rebounds (9.9). The Rams are also getting double-digit scoring from freshman guard Isaiah Stevens (11.0 ppg) … Colorado has a 90-38 all-time edge in the series, including an 86-80 victory at home last year. The Rams, however, have won three of the last five. CU owns a 36-28 edge in Fort Collins.

Usually a win in Moby precedes a good year for the Buffs overall. It won't move the needle outside of the state, but this is an important game.

Just noticed a more detailed preview was released yesterday-

FORT COLLINS — Whenever Tad Boyle's Colorado Buffaloes square off with Colorado State, they can be assured of one thing: they will get the Rams' best.

The No. 24 Buffs (7-2) are expecting nothing different Friday, when they travel to Fort Collins for a 6 p.m. matchup with CSU (7-5) at Moby Arena (CBSSN).

"We know how big this game is in the state," Boyle said after Thursday morning's practice. " And we know that certainly the last three, four years we've played them they've played literally their best game of the year … We have to be ready."

Indeed, even in down years the Rams have given the Buffs fits over the last few seasons. CSU has won two of the last three — CU won, 86-80, in Boulder last season — and three of the last five. That streak includes a 72-63 Colorado State win in Fort Collins two years ago, a year in which CSU finished 11-21.
...

Another thing the Buffs can count on is a steady performance from CSU big man Nico Carvacho. The 6-11 senior, who led the nation in rebounding last season, has averaged 12.3 points and 10 rebounds per game in three appearances against Colorado.

"He's a good player," Boyle said. "Not only can he rebound, but he can really score the ball over both shoulders. He's a load down there. It's going to be not just an individual thing to guard him, it's going to be a team thing."

Niko Medved's Rams have had an up-and-down season, but they do own a 74-64 road win over Loyola Marymount, a team CU struggled to beat at home just last week. They also beat Washington State, 79-69, and are coming off a 72-68 home win over South Dakota State on Tuesday.
...

BUFFS BITS: Tyler Bey still leads CU in scoring (13.0 points), rebounding (11.0) and steals (2.2). Bey's 20 steals this year are already more than half of last year's season leader (Wright with 39) ... Sophomore forward Evan Battey is averaging 10 points and six rebounds over the last three games. Battey also leads the team in field goal percentage (.554) ... CU is still 32nd in the nation in scoring defense (60.6 points per game).

THE SERIES: Colorado holds a dominating 90-38 lead in the all-time series, but the two teams have split the last 10 matchups. CU holds a 36-28 edge in Fort Collins, with the Buffs' last win coming there in 2015 by an 88-77 score.

BROADCAST: The game will be televised by CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz and Steve Lappas. The radio broadcast will be carried by 850 AM and 94.1 FM KOA with Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson and Scott Wilke.

Also, don't know if it was mentioned yet (too lazy to go back), but sounds like continuing an annual game against CSU is in question beyond next season - https://www.buffzone.com/2019/12/13/tad-boyle-discusses-future-of-cu-buffs-csu-rams-hoops-rivalry/

What I'm looking for tonight is the team getting back the swagger they had early in the year. They had a happy confidence that has been non-existent the last 4 games. They look sour and uninterested of late. Even in victories. Not sure what that's all about. I do know that if they let CSU dictate things from the start, we'll find ourselves in trouble against what is a pretty crappy opponent.

A couple of other thoughts:
- Could Bey be hurt and playing through it?
- Kountz' minutes need to end. Full stop.
- I miss the "bump" Strating used to give us. Not near the level of Battey, but the team certainly reacted positively to his efforts last year.
- I think Gatling needs to start. He needs to be fully in the flow in the game to be (and shoot) his best. I really think the 3 minutes on, 7 minutes off cadence hurts his type of game.
- Why won't Schwartz embrace the role of a scorer? This baffles me. He needs to shoot the ball 10+ times and game and what happens, happens.

anyone know how to get this stupid ****ty network for a night?

https://www.fubo.tv/welcome

Did them last year for when the football game was on that network.

Very easy to set up a free seven day trial, very easy to cancel when you are done with it.

By the way was impressed enough with them that at some point in the future when I cut my current cable and internet provider I will probably go with them.

after a whooping from real good team on the road, and a home choke job against a motivated but mediocre group, this team should be mentally ready. High energy, few TOs. If so, we should win by @ 8. if they can't correct the TO problem, as said in Cool Hand Luke, their 'minds ain't right' and we have along season ahead. we need DW back.

Go Buffs. EB v. their big man should be fun.
