Games thread- MEN'S BBall opens season hosting Towson (Monday, 11/6/23; 5:30 PM MT; Pac 12 Network) & Grambling St. (Friday, 6:00 PM MT; Pac 12 Mtn.)

A new season formally begins for Men's basketball (Last season 18-7 overall, 8-12 in conference play) with a couple home games. They begin by facing off against the Towson University Tigers (Located in Towson, Maryland; Last season 21-12 overall, 12-6 in Colonial Athetic Association play) early Monday evening (10/6), followed up by a Friday evening game against the Grambling State Tigers (Located in Grambling, Louisians; Last season 24-9 overall, 15-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play).

Both games are scheduled to be shown on one or more Pac 12 Network channel. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this thread.)

Note- Not that they necessarily mean much if anything, but in the last NET Rankngs I can find for last season (dated 4/3/23), the Buffs ended up at #76, while Towson was #130 and Grambling State #186.

Vs. Towson - Game is scheduled to be shown on the Pac 12 National and Mountain channels. THE SEASON: Colorado officially opens the 121st season of varsity men's basketball by hosting Towson on Monday, Nov. 6.

OPENERS: Colorado is 85-35 (.708) in all-time season openers and has won its last seven. The Buffaloes are 11-2 under head coach Tad Boyle and 38-5 in overall season openers since 1980-81.

The Buffaloes are 96-24 (.800) all-time in home openers, have won their last 15 and 21 of their last 22. Boyle's teams are 13-0 in home openers.

ABOUT THE TIGERS: Towson is coming off a 21-12 season in 2022-23 and a third place finish in the Coastal Athletic Association at 12-6. The Tigers return eight players from last year's team including graduate forward Charles Thompson who averaged 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game earning All-CAA Defensive Team honors. Thompson earned Preseason All-CAA honors. The Tigers were picked to finish fifth in the 2023-24 CAA Men's Basketball Preseason Poll.

THE SERIES: This will be the second meeting between Colorado and Towson. The Buffaloes won the only other meeting against the Tigers, then known as Towson State, 93-83 on Nov. 25, 1991, at the CU Events Center.

We should win this easily, but I fear Tad will be Tad and run out 15 different lineup combos during the game as he does early every year to "get a sense of what we have."

What we finally have is an 8 deep that is rock solid. Leave it at that and win by 20. Okay?

This will be my 25th year with season tix. Would have been 26th but covid happened.

I really love this team, good to have them back for another season!

Meh. Hurlburt, Diop, Anderson, and Smith (and Dak if he doesn't redshirt) all need to get game reps to see what we got. I'm okay doing that against our pretty weak non-con schedule.

They are rated #138. If they play that way Tad will definitely "run out 15 different lineup combos during the game as he does early every year to 'get a sense of what we have.' Any good coach would. A 20 pt victory is not his goal; why would it be?
 
So, is Eddie Lampkin Jr healthy enough to go 30ish minutes or does LOB get the start?

Also, will either Anderson and/or Dak play or are they headed for redshirt seasons?

I doubt he plays 30 minutes. And hope he doesn't need to.
 
AD still treating basketball like second class citizens. Every aspect so far from traffic flow getting in to food and beverage, is as if the school was caught by surprise that the season starts tonight. WTAF?
 
Tad is very high on this team. Says he has 12 guys who can play.
Dak will not redshirt. Says will be a physical game (go Eddie)
TdS is a very confident guy this year

Said when he was the Longmont HS coach he and Turgeon drove to a Bobby Knight seminar. He still has the notes he took.
