Once the Spring Evaluation Period is over on May 31st, we enter a recruiting Quiet Period that also includes a Dead Period from June 26th to July 9th.

Definitions: http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/resources/recruiting-calendars

What is an evaluation period? (What happens during Spring Evaluation Period)

During an evaluation period a college coach may watch college-bound student-athletes compete, visit their high schools, and write or telephone student-athletes or their parents. However, a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents off the college’s campus during an evaluation period.

What is a quiet period?
During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus. A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

What is a dead period?
During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

So, June 1 begins Camp Season where we transition from our coaches visiting high schools or hosting unofficial visits.

We'll use this thread for announcements of camps at which CU coaches are attending and for unofficial visits during Camp Season.

Of note, there are new rules this year on camps.

Per the NCAA:
(change to nature of camps)
It allows coaches employed at a camp or clinic to have recruiting conversations with prospects participating in camps and clinics and requires educational sessions at all camps and clinics detailing initial eligibility standards, gambling rules, agent rules and drug regulations (effective immediately).

(change to scouting limitations)
It limits the time for Football Bowl Subdivision coaches to participate in camps and clinics to 10 days in June and July and requires that the camps take place on a school’s campus or in facilities regularly used by the school for practice or competition. Staff members with football-specific responsibilities are subject to the same restrictions.

To add to Nik's post, the camp season really caps off the portion of the recruiting calendar that is evaluation-intensive. While some prospects will pop up this fall, the vast majority of offers are extended by the end of June. Also, with so many offers made during the SEP, it is probable that a portion of the reported offers are contingent on a camp performance in front of the coach(es).

It is amazing to me that the NCAA has not updated their rules to account for texting, video calls, and social media. Talk about living in the stone age.

They did update. They decided not to restrict or police it.

Wow - very surprised at that - particularly due to how relatively easy it would be to track via the recruits phone/feed - less so the coaches as they can use burner phones.

Skepticism noted, but he is right. The NCAA isn't going to require any kid that might be recruited at any level, 10,000+ per year, to register their phones with the NCAA so that the institution can track where all these kids get texts from. Not only is it totally backward thinking (an arguement why the NCAA might do it), but virtually impossible to administer.

I understand what you are saying - but it isn't like they pro-actively monitoring each team's phone lines, mobile phones, emails, etc. What I was trying to say is during an investigation, they could use the recruits phone as the single version of the history on the inbound side instead of the team's outbound equipment. Yes, lot's of holes, but an easier solution instead of just throwing your hands up and doing nothing.

Should be hearing some reports soon on the CU individual camp that was held from 1-4pm today.

Not a CU camp, but USC has the first of two Rising Stars camps today, and it sounds like there are 600+ attendees. Always a big date on the west coast recruiting calendar because of the domino effect.

The next week is big. Camps in San Jose and Sacramento, along with the second Boulder camp, which will have more high profile visitors than the first one. Thinking 2-3 commits by the end of June.
