Official 2022 Bowl Games Thread

Georgia will back in the playoff next year only 4 road games the toughest being Tennessee and the non conference schedule is cake.

It worked for the past two seasons, more than just one game.
Or it had zero impact on the game one way or another.

By the time you are at the level of that game if a player isn't already emotionally charged, isn't focused, isn't motivated, the pre-game speech isn't going to make much of a difference.

Probably fair to say that having a roster full of guys who are going to be making NFL paychecks in the next couple years had a little bit more to do with the outcome than some cussing from Kirby.

often I wish I had a better profanity filter. I think there's a lot of power in cursing when it comes from someone who rarely does so. From someone who routinely cusses like a sailor, it loses most of the impact.

but cleaning up my profanity is about number 860 on my list of things to work on to improve myself.

I think Wisconsin is going to jump up significantly in the B1G West and Notre Dame will be in the mix. USC and Oregon are both dark horses. But the team I'm calling early to crash the party is Florida State.

Edit: Agree on your SECW & B1GE takes.

USC's schedule will be much tougher with Oregon and UW added plus they have to go to ND. Granted I don't know who all is coming back for them but they get Caleb back and they'll have plenty of talent at WR, so I wouldn't say they're a dark horse.

Kirby is 180 of Prime
I coached club, high school, and college sports and I despise coaches that go all cussing instead of real focused motivation. But, it worked great last night, so good for Kirby
A couple of appropriately placed F-bombs in a pre-game speech always seem to wake up players and drive home certain points. Especially when you don't normally swear otherwise.

Agreed, I remember in high school my football coach never cussed but before one game he gave a pretty spirited speech with f bombs sprinkled in and it got us fired up

I think thats a pretty crappy speech, I actually think less of Kirby than I already did. I can see how he spun off Midnight Mel. Potty mouth

I totally get that every NFL player, except for a few that cuss like sailors, and it is the culture of the locker room and field.
I get that many College Coaches cuss in order to motivate and to get players' attention, but the best coaches that I have ever had never cussed, they built a relationship with us that built us up to the point that we wanted to run through a wall for each other and especially for that coach.
I just think Kirby's speech was desperate in its efforts for him to be the king of college football, and for his program to be the top dog. Kirby is a narcissist and that is what makes him a very good coach. The speech did not make a difference to the result of the game, Georgia has built a juggernaut and they could beat TCU 9.5 out of 10 times without any special coaching.

I love how Prime uses his aura and presence to motivate young men and women to be special.

Just a comparison and an opinion, please don't send Michael Jordan after me to get me some help.

I think that Kirby is who he is. That approach of being like a crazed dog is pretty effective for a defensive coordinator rallying his group. I wouldn't think it would work as well with guys on offense, since a lot of playing that side is more about staying cool under pressure, being patient and not forcing things. But he's been there long enough to have a room full of his type of guys who either respond to that or are able to block it out and focus.

(On blocking out a coach getting in your ear and going off, Tad said something about that recently. That it's counter-intuitive, but he sees that as a great evolution of a player when they become so focused & dialed in knowing what they need to do that they're able to block out the coach, the crowd, the opponent smack talk. I think part of Kirby's success is he ratchets up the noise and pressure to such a degree that his players deal well with all that external noise. It's not just about firing them up with expletive filled rah-rah.)

I do not believe there is one right way to make the pre-game speech work. Any way that leads to national championship works. You can argue all day that "oh they won despite of it". I don't buy it. Football is a result driven sport, Kirby sets the winning culture, and he gets the result. Everything he does is part of the culture. Including his pre game speech.

The top coach in the sport getting hate seems par for the course…
I despised Lou Holtz speech about us way back in the day cause it was a low and pathetic blow
I just did not like Kirby's speech cause it was so out of control and in the same way a low blow to TCU. His speech was about motivation not to fail after all the hard work they have gone through, but I think it was also a bit of "We can never lose to this crappy TCU team ever cause it will hurt all of our legacies"
To each his own, just wonder how that type of speech would play at CU, and despite some challenges that Prime could still face within the University hierarchy, knowing that he speaks to the players in a different way is what is great about him
My father was my idol, and I respected the hell out of him, and he never cussed me out, and he "hit" me (smack or spank) 3 times, and each one of those was good for about 2-3 years of good behavior till I would mess up again.

Surprised Wait What GIF

To be honest, if CU had a 2-year run like Kirby just did I wouldn't care if his pregame speech was biting the head off a newborn kitten.
I could handle killing a kitten as long as he permanently outgrew the need for an assistant to yank him around by the waist line. That crap was beyond childish and I'd have a hard time rooting for a coach who behaved that way in public at all, much less during games (but I probably would hold my nose and support him anyway if he produced the wins that Smart does).
