UCLA also trending up, but they had nowhere else to go.
If anything's gonna sink Chip at UCLA it's recruiting. When he was at Oregon, he had Belotti's staff and they knew their business so Chip didn't have to worry about it. Not sure that he's got that kind of staff with the Bruins.Big miss on Jaydon Daniels though.
How did they take their QB commit so early with him still out there?Big miss on Jaydon Daniels though.
Latu is announcing tomorrow at 6 pm. Committed Saturday night at dinner on his official visit to UW. Already called Cal and USC to let them know. It's a big blow to USC who has been recruiting him hard since the summer. If UW can manage to hold onto 4 star safety Asa Turner (Notre Dame making a late run, 50-50 shot he flips) and get Daniel Hemuli who is a 4 star LB (Heavy UW lean) then it will a lights out defensive recruiting class for UW.Sounds like ASU is in great shape for Stephon Wright and will also potentially steal Drake Jackson.
Washington is also squarely in the mix to steal Laiatu Latu.
If that happens, basically kills USC's front seven class.
Daniel didn't care about that, guy is lowly ranked and he had confidence he could beat him out. Problem for UCLA was Dorian Thompson-Robinson who started as a True Freshman which scared Daniel. Shelly at Utah as well as Gabers at Cal scared him because they were underclassman who were starting. ASU has a open QB spot next year and only has 1 scholarship QB on the roster (who isn't highly thought off) which lead to ASU making a late run at him and ultimately getting him.How did they take their QB commit so early with him still out there?
The Pac-12 Network is doing a signing day special with a feature on EB and the '87 class that won the national championship..
That was a beef many had last year for signing day. Other teams and conferences across the nation were covering signing day while the Pac 12 network had reruns of olympic sports running. Love seeing the focus of the network shifting to football.PACN stepping up with some great original content. Love seeing this.
Washington's closing strong.
I still think that CU can move into the 30s by the end.So what are we thinking the end results will be this year?
Oregon and Washington top 10
Stanford and USC top 20
ASU and Cal in the 30’s
Colorado, Utah and UCLA in the 40’s
Washington State and Arizona in the 50’s
Oregon state in the 60’s?

I thought Sumlin would recruit so much better at Arizona. It looked like he was a recruiting machine at Texas A&M. Turns out that aTm is the machine and Sumlin was just along for the ride. They're at even another level now and UA has gotten no bump from him as a new coach.
Chip Kelly is actively avoiding blue chip recruits and as an Eagles fan, I couldn’t be happier to have him at UCLA. He owes me the next DeSean Jackson at the very least.
2. UCLA’s different, although not unexpected, approach.
Biggins indicated that with two exceptions, Bruins coach Chip Kelly is not recruiting the best of the best in Southern California.
UCLA has secured a commitment from San Juan Capistrano’s Sean Rhyan, one of the top offensive line recruits in school history, and is pursuing Mater Dei athlete Bru McCoy.
Otherwise, the Bruins are “barely involved with the elite kids, and that seems to be by design,” Biggins explained.
“They’re going after the mid-level guys and figure they can coach ’em up and development them better … They are staying away from the kids who love themselves.”
Kelly didn’t chase the 4- and 5-stars during his tenure at Oregon, either. He wants deeply-committed, low-maintenance, coachable players who fit his system.
“They’re really low in the rankings because of his philosophy,” Biggins said. “It’s strange to me, but to him, it makes perfect sense. They are actively avoiding highly-rated guys.”
I always thought Sumlin was a bad hire and he’s certainly trending to that. Unfortunately he was more than capable of knee capping HCMM even in his semi-permanent state of drunkenness.I thought Sumlin would recruit so much better at Arizona. Chipper going the 'I aint need no 4*s' route along with USC likely giving Helton the boot next year should make CA prime recruiting grounds this next cycle.
There is a fine line there, but at a school like UCLA you should be able to be picky with the elite talent you go after. You can bring in a ton of 4* players that have good attitudes, just look at Washington.I was thinking the same thing.
UCLA (and USC for that matter) have always recruited great talent. But the culture on most of their teams hasn’t been great.
I can say that having the “right” guys is better than having the “best” guys. Recruiting guys who are humble enough to be coached and put the team first is extremely important.
The downside to taking Chip Kelly’s approach is that there are plenty of 4 and 5 stars who have those traits.
I feel like Chris Peterson is doing a great job of finding those type of guys. UW seems to have great culture.
It will be interesting to watch Kelly’s strategy unfold.

Oregon cleaned up SoCal this year.Man- If UCLA is shunning 4-5*, USC is going through a coaching change, UA still has Sumlin, and ASU has any kind of drop off, SoCal could be wide open next cycle to the Buffs. Especially if CU makes a bowl next year.
If it was me or my kid. I would be reading. Is it just me or is it weird when people say welcome to a recruit as if he’s reading this thread? I get it on their twitter but seems strange in here. Maybe I just don’t understand the proper etiquette.
