Official Spring Practices Thread

My concern with Fontenot is that he didn’t get any run last year, even when McMillan was slowed/hurt. I guess going with Kyle Evans was MacIntyre being MacIntyre.

MacIntyre being MacIntyre is a good way to put it. Remember this is the guy who only used Viska on special teams him freshman year.

In retrospect we keep seeing the things that FHCMM did at CU that cause you to shake your head and wonder.

Evans was a great character kid and earned his scholarship but there is a good reason he didn't have any P5 offers out of HS. MM though was loyal to a fault, loyal to his seniors, loyal to his assistants, loyal to his philosophies that worked at the G5 level but continued to fail at the P5 level.

Other than what we saw yesterday I have no clue if Fontenot should have gotten more playing time last year. We can say that for a number of guys though.

No kidding. You’d think after 15 practices this new staff would have everything fixed. We should fire them all and give someone else less than a month to see if they can do better.

*** Hot take alert *** Too early to condemn the new coaching staff considering we haven’t played a meaningful game.

Ever notice how all Fletch fans are more more perceptive and intelligent than average people?

Could be wrong, but sounds more like this will be the norm to build toughness, etc..
We always ran sprints after any practice or scrimmage. I remember Gateway watching in disbelief as we ran sprints on their field after we blew them out on a scrimmage.

I think the coaching staff instructed the defensive players not to go 100%. Watch Mangham's 2nd TD run, the DB square's up on him 5 yards past the line of scrimmage, taps him with both hands on his shoulder pads and jumps out of his way so he can score. Translation, this was a spring game.

Looked to me they still need to learn how to thud, only hand touching I noticed being called was on the QBs. I'm sure I missed others just how it looked to me.

Pretty sure it was full contact for everybody not in a grey jersey (certain defensive players as well).

Yes you guys are correct, a poor job of responding by me. What I meant is in the clip that was used had the DB come in and just thudded instead of taking him to the ground I think whistles would have blown. Just touching someone isn't inline with this coaching staff. Thank you guys for calling this out and sorry for tha lack of clarity on my part(y)

Who are, in order, the most likely summer arrivals to see playing time?

My guess:

Johnson
Perry
Murray
Ham
Shenault

You don't have Ham as the most likely or 2nd most? I think between him and Johnson they are pretty close to even at most likely to see playing time.

I don't see Ham having a huge impact this year. There are a lot of Juco LB's coming in that will allow the staff to bring him in when he is really ready.
Oh, my bad, I thought he meant Hambright and shortened it to Ham. Maybe he meant Marvin Ham not sure.

Ham is better than the Juco's
Ham is not starting over Landman and Van Diest and he likely needs some time to get ready physically since he is a high school player. I doubt the coaches would blow a redshirt for him when they have 3 JUCO guys who can provide depth. He will probably get some playing time against CSU/AFA and then hopefully the coaches can bank 3 games for the home stretch in case injuries hit.

I think any of the 3 incoming DL Frosh could surprise (Williams, Simon and Murray). In fact, I'd bet against Murray based on no information whatsoever
