What exactly is the benefit for the universities if all of the conferences to go to 16?
First, seeing what Scott was able to pull with the Pac-12, and the SEC and Big 10 able to renegotiate their TV contracts within the next 5 years, who's to say the pieces of the pie will actually get larger, instead of smaller with more members, than if the conferences just redid their deals with 12?
Second, if we go to 4 superconferences and ditch the NCAA, doesn't that remove even more of the oversight and leave the U$Cs, Ohio States, and Miamis free to cheat even more while leaving schools who try to do things the right way in the dust? It seems to me that superconferences are paving the way to big-time college ball becoming little more than minor-league ball, and you'd think some of the presidents of these institutions would see that. Sure, some (SEC schools) aren't going to care, but you would think that the Stanfords, Michigans, and other top-notch schools would.
Finally, wouldn't TCU kick the Big East to the curb in a heartbeat if given the chance to join a refurbished Big 12?
