Thought I'd use this thread to combine news and results from tennis team action during the non-conference portion of the schedule. (League play starts March 9th when the Wild Cats come to Boulder.) The Buffs up the team portion of the main spring season this Saturday, hosting the Rams at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center, with action scheduled to start at 11:00. (As noted in part of the below-quoted preview article, they played some individual matches last weekend, but there was no team scoring.)

BOULDER - The Colorado women's tennis team begins its dual-match season by hosting Colorado State at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center this Saturday, Jan. 20. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
The Buffaloes began the season last weekend at the Indiana Winter Invitational in a three-day event that also featured student-athletes from Marquette, Indiana, Abilene Christian, Wright State, DePaul and Mississippi State.

Overall, CU finished the weekend with a record of 4-10 in doubles play and 8-4 in singles matches. CU was led by senior Louise Ronaldson, senior Kyra Wojcik, junior Brigitte Beck and sophomore Chloe Hule, all going undefeated in singles play over the weekend, with Beck's wins coming in straight sets.

Colorado State opened its season last weekend as well, participating in the three-day Western Michigan Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Rams competed against student-athletes from Cleveland State, DePaul, Indiana, Notre Dame as well as the host Broncos.

Last season, Colorado swept CSU, 7-0, to notch its 31st straight win against the Rams. CU has never dropped a match against CSU, collecting 17 sweeps in total.
"We are excited to start our 2018 spring season," said head coach Nicole Kenneally. "The team has worked hard and we look forward to highlighting our players."

Congrats to the team for the sweep of the UNC Bears today. Also, forgot to mention the narrow 4-3 win over the Rams last week in this thread..

Stories on both-

"
GREELEY, Colo. – The Colorado women's tennis team was absolutely dominant on Saturday, as the Buffaloes won each of its match-ups in straight sets in a 7-0 win over the Northern Colorado Bears at the Work Out West Fitness Center in Greeley, Colo.

The win improved CU's record to 2-0. The loss was UNC's first of the season, and now have a record of 1-1.

"Last week we definitely saw some places to improve," said head coach Nicole Kenneally. "This week we had a very focused week of practice and saw the benefits today."

Note- there is bad news in that article, as it notes that last year's normal #3 singles player is evidently out for the year with an injury- "Senior Kyra Wojcik was inserted back into the starting lineup at the No. 5 spot after junior Annabelle Andrinopoulos suffered a season-ending injury in last weekend's match against Colorado State." Best wishes to Ms. Andrinopoulos for a quick, full and minimal- pain recovery.

On last weekend's match-

"
BOULDER – The Colorado Buffaloes women's tennis team began its dual-match season here Saturday with a narrow 4-3 win over in-state rival Colorado State at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center.

After winning the doubles point, the Buffs lost the first two singles points that included an injury to junior Annabelle Andrinopoulos that forced her to retire from the match.

CU recovered from the 1-2 deficit to win three of the final four singles matches to take home the victory.

Cool. Move to the Pac-12 was tough on Tennis as was the loss of the Men's program because I think it de-emphasized Tennis in general and hurt the Women's program. They seem to be rebuilding things, albeit slowly. Looks like they've turned to recruiting more international players.

There's another chance for anyone in the Boulder area to come watch the tennis team this weekend, as they host Air Force this Sunday.

Live results - From a QUICK search, I don't see any link to full live-results, so assume those of us who can't make the matches will need to follow on twitter ( https://twitter.com/CUBuffsTennis ).

When I looked at the plans for the CU South Campus, I don't see anything about the Tennis Courts being a part of the future there: https://www.colorado.edu/cubouldersouth/assumptions-concept

Could it be that CU will partner with Rocky Mountain Tennis Complex the same way our golf program does with Colorado National Golf Club where it's a home court with some dedicated training facilities? Would be really nice if CU could buy that Harvest Manor apartment complex that is between the RMTC and Folsom Ave to do something nicer there.

The Buffs win a tight one over the Air Force. Congrats to them!

BOULDER – The University of Colorado Tennis team earned its third straight win here Sunday toppling Air Force 4-3 at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Complex.
...

Kyra Wojcik clinched the match for the Buffs defeating Air Force's Hatcliff, 6-0, 6-2.
"Kyra clinching both singles and doubles today. She didn't even realize she did! Her and Linda clinched the doubles after being 5-1 down, which is huge. And then she played solid in singles to clinch the match. It was a good day for her."

The Buffs will stay home for the next five straight matches including a pair of home matches next weekend. CU will host Sacramento State on Saturday February 10 at 11:00 am and Boise State on Sunday at 11:00 am. Follow @CUBuffsTennis on Twitter for updates!

Continuing my posts of what is a BUSY weekend for Buff teams of MANY sports, the tennis team has a couple more home matches fans can go watch if they have the time and desire.

BOULDER – The University of Colorado Tennis team continues its five-match homestand this weekend against the Sacramento State Hornets on Saturday at 11 a.m. and the Boise State Broncos on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Buffaloes earned its third straight win of the season last weekend, toppling Air Force, 4-3.

Sacramento State is 1-3 this spring season, having defeated North Dakota, 5-2, and features a roster of six lower classmen (two sophomores, four freshmen) and just two upperclassmen (one junior and one senior).
Boise State is 2-1 this season with wins over Whitman (7-0) and Lewis-Clark State (7-0) and also has a young roster with seven underclassman and just one senior.
"

Note - Couldn't find any link right now to live scoring, but assume the one from last weekend's match (http://cubuffs.com/sports/2017/1/19/colorado-tennis-live-updates.aspx) may (???) work again. Or, I'd assume a link will be provided before tomorrow's match against Sac. State starts.

This seems like a make or break year for Coach Kenneally. I don't think she got one of the long-term deals. Getting things going again after the budget cuts and loss of a Men's team along with the move to the tougher Pac-12 has been difficult. Hopefully Tennis is on the rise.

Buffs get to continue enjoying the home cooking as they host old conference foes KSU this Sunday morning starting at 11:00. (I'd guess this will be the Buffs biggest challenge to date this season.)

BOULDER – The University of Colorado tennis team looks to continue its winning streak to start the spring season this Sunday at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center as the Buffs take on the Kansas State Wildcats. First serve is set for 11 a.m.

CU's 5-0 record ties the third best start to a season in the program's history with the 1993-94 team that started 5-0 as well. The 1975-76 team started its season with a six game win streak while the 1996-97 team started out 10-0.
...

Kansas State is 4-1 this season and are currently on a three game win-streak in which they won each match by 4-3 score. Most recently, the Wildcats took down Washington State at home on Sunday, Feb. 11 in Manhattan, Kan.

Missed that the Buffs are in action against the Shockers today. Looks like they are going to have to play catch-up.

Sounds like the Buffs were in a majority of the matches, but couldn't convert any against #30 Wichita State. Hope the Buffs can come back strong in New Mexico next weekend.

"
WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Colorado women's tennis team fell behind early on Sunday to the No. 30-ranked Wichita State Shockers, losing 7-0 at the Wichita Country Club in Wichita, Kansas.

The loss moved CU to 5-2 on the season with its second straight loss, while the Shockers improved to 10-3.

"Today is one of those matches where it's hard to see by some of the scores on paper how much we were in the matches," head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "We had a new team together in doubles and once they got going it was competitive and just ran out of time."
...

"In singles we had three matches go to three sets and one go deep in the second," Kenneally said. "We competed well and continued to fight which is the first ingredient to long term success. Wichita state is a solid team from top to bottom and we will use what we learned today to move us forward in our season."

Colorado will play at New Mexico State on Saturday, March 3 with first serve set for 2 p.m. MT before taking on New Mexico on Sunday, March 4 at 12 p.m. MT.

Congrats to the team on the win over NM State. Hope they can follow up against the Lobos tomorrow!

Congrats to the tennis team for another W!

Now it's onto conference play. Hope some folk can make it out to next weekend's home matches against the Arizona schools.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Colorado women's tennis team finished the sweep of the state of New Mexico here Sunday, defeating the New Mexico Lobos, 5-2, at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center. After taking down both New Mexico State and New Mexico this weekend, CU's record is now 7-2 on the season, while the loss moves UNM to 2-4.
"I'm proud of how we competed this weekend," said head coach Nicole Kenneally. "In each match we had nine positions come out and compete and that is what puts you in a position to win college tennis matches."
...

"Overall, we played a lot of the clutch points well today," said Kenneally. "We look forward to getting outside next weekend and welcoming our Pac-12 opponents, Arizona and Arizona State."

On Friday, March 9, the Buffs take on the Arizona Wildcats at 1:30 p.m. MT and on Sunday, March 11, CU faces the Arizona State Sun Devils. The time for the ASU match has yet to be determined due to possible weather.
