Some info on the AD's finances below. Keep in mind that based on figures from other universities, alcohol sales at sporting events could potentially amount to over $1 million in additional revenue per year.

- On average the AD only makes about $1 million in profit per year (on $60 million in total revenue) and this is even with the university subsidizing roughly 25% of their yearly operating costs. So in other words without this help they would be losing about $14 million per year.

- Just two sports-football and men’s basketball actually produce profit; all of the other sports operate at a loss.

- This year because of CU switching conferences they had to forfeit their TV revenue for one year and also pay a sizable exit fee. The result was a $16 million deficit for the year and because of that they had to borrow $10 million from CU-Boulder and the Colorado University system. They are also still paying off an $8 million loan it took in 2006 for, among other things, paying off the contract of Garry Barnett.

- The financial issues both for the university and the athletic department are further exasperated by the fact that
Colorado ranks 48[SUP]th[/SUP] in the country in terms of state funding for public education.

have you looked at what other schools bring in from alcohol sales?

That is the first I've heard of the university subsidizing the AD.

Luckily we should get about $20MM this year from the Pac. And we have to be close to paying off that loan from 2006, right?
