WBB 2019 Pre-Season Info Thread

(So far, doesn't look like the Buffs have been able to find much competition for their games. Seem to remember the same thing happened their last international trip. Of course, assume the main thing about these every 4 year trips is team building and the chance for extra practices, so I'd guess it's not a big deal what the games themselves are like, although of course more competition wouldn't hurt any.)

Nice videolog (~4-1/2 minutes long) of the team at play and work before and during the 1st game in Italy.

And, article on today's game.

Agree that the competition on these trips is lacking so the purpose is to get more practice time and build camaraderie. With four sophomores and five freshmen this is a good season to be doing so. Hope it pays off come November. Also hope the team and staff is enjoying their time in Italy as much as I have in the past.

I just realized that Aubrey Knight hasn't been playing. Hope it's just a precaution with her return from injury.

What is the benefit of playing teams that aren’t even equivalent to good high school teams other than the team bonding and added practice time?

It's giving them a head start on the season with 5 freshmen, some of whom will be seeing a lot of playing time. J is able to try different combinations in the games and can find weaknesses early.

Aubrey has been participating in some practice but was not yet medically cleared for contact (following her post-season shoulder surgery) as of the trip to Italy.

Good news for and re Ms. Knight.
I hope her (shoulder?) injury didn't set her back too far with her training in preparation for the upcoming season. There's going to be a lot of competition for playing time on the wing this season.

Aubrey's been doing lots of things in practice … shooting, various non-contact drills, etc. She just was not cleared for contact before today.

Conference schedule released. (Looks like it's the Bay Area and Oregon schools the Buffs only play once this season.)

It was not a good situation for either team in these pairings. Hope it stays out of the schedule forever.

It's Pac 12 WBB Media Day today (With MBB tomorrow), with Coach Payne, Kennedy Leonard and Alexis Robinson representing the Buffs. As noted below, there are 2 chances to possibly see the Buffs:

Per the schedule at https://pac-12.com/womens-basketball/media-day-2018:
  • The TV program starts at noon MT, with Larry Scott up 1st.
  • The Buff players are scheduled on the TV show at 12:40 PM MT, and Coach Payne at 2:45 PM MT.
  • Then, all 3 are scheduled on the "podium" (assume for a press conference type thing) at 3:40 PM MT.
