We return 17 starters on the O and D. 9 on O and 8 on D. I think this team could be solid next year with a competent head coach.
Loaded? Sure we're returning some starters, but to say we're loaded is a little much. At least imo.

Buffed up meant 'HE" was loaded.
Nope.
We have a nice foundation on offense, but the defense lacks speed/size/athleticism. The special teams are still a major question mark as well.
I think the next coach can step in and win next year. Imagine what a competent coach can do here in Boulder.Well...I should qualify it as loaded with returning starters. I think it is as good a situation for a first year coach to step into as possible.

I do think the next coach can show tangible signs of improvement right away because of the experience, but I think he will have to use some smoke and mirrors on defense. The special teams should improve no matter what.
I guess I'm just a little more optimistic than others. As someone else said, good foundation, loaded not. We will struggle next year no matter who the coach is.
I hope we can steal a JUCO QB from someone.Until we know what type of offense or defense we will run, we have no idea if we have the talent to execute it.
I think we have a generally "average" level of talent and depth on the team, but not at the most vital position: QB.
If a new coach can put in an offense that maximizes Hansen or Hirschman then we have a chance at a .500 or winning record if we take care of the "must wins" OOC. But that is asking for too much, IMO, and we can expect to struggle to stay out of the basement of the Pac 12 South.
This is also assuming we don't lose too many players in the transition, which is probably going to happen to some degree.

You may be able to look down I25 to see a hint of the O and D that we will be running next year ; )

I think the majority feel the same - the foundation is there, but we're not loaded. However, I think the foundation is more solid than others. I like our DLine actually, assuming we get a DL coach that can teach pass-rushing. I think our OLine next year has talent too, but they need a coach that can teach them. Our LBs next year I think will be good (Major back, Rippy, Webb), and our safeties will be good, (if Polk learns how to take better angles, he'll be really good). WR will be decent next year too. We have a lot of talent - not elite talent, but there is a lot of talent. A great coach could easily take this team next year, overcome the adjustment problems, and win 8 games in my optimistic opinion. I've been telling everyone, CU is not devoid of talent, which is what frustrated me most about Hawk's teams. They had talent. They just weren't coached right. We also desperately need a new S&T coach...I hate Pittman...
scotty and valdez point out the most glaring problem though - QB. Hansen needs drastic improvement to take the team to a new level. Hirschmann, the jury hasn't even seen the evidence to be out on him yet. We need a better QB coach in this next regime - QB play matters so much in college football.
agree with most everything, but i don't think west needs to add a single pound. he's thick enough as it is.Your comment on the S&T coach is spot on.
The D-Line desperately needs to beef up but we have the frames to do it.
At DE, Kasa could become a monster and if he can gain a solid 15lbs he will be at 290. With his quickness and his motor he could flat out dominate. They used him inside a lot this year simply because of his strength but he could be a difference maker at DE with support from inside. West looks bigger than 260, add 15-20 to him and you have another big DE, Uzo-Diribe is listed at 230, looks more like 220. Get him to a solid 235-240 with his speed and he could be a force as well.
At DT Cunningham and Pericak both were undersized this year. Cunningham may have come close to maxing out on weight but get him to 285 and make him stronger and he will be solid. Pericak is still skinny for a DT, he could play at 300. Bonsu should be 300+ coming back and we missed his size this year. Goree and Obi give some depth but disapointed, Poston and Poole need another year of development then we will see.
We got killed this year by injuries at a number of positions. I wonder how many were due to lack of conditioning, strength, flexibility?
yep, still small and slow at positions most teams have dudes that look 35 playing. We need a lot of better players still.

:nod:Not a good situation when both the guys starting and the key backups are underclassmen.
