Official Game Day Thread: Colorado vs UCLA 2012

If somebody looked at the box score they might think it was a 60 minute thumping, but if they actually watched the game they'd see a somewhat close 40 minute game, followed by a 20 minute thumping. We were in it for quite a while into the 3rd quarter, and we might have been in it for a while longer if we hadn't turned the ball over on the long pass play.

I'll sort of give you "In it" based on being within 2 scores with plenty of time left to play. But to me, "In it" means that you're within a play of tying things up or taking the lead. All day, the Buffs played hard and sort of hung around trying to find that drive that would make a game of it. They couldn't do so and, really, it was game over as soon as our offense went from a 3rd and 2 to giving UCLA the ball around midfield after getting stoned on 2 straight plays. Any momentum the team had on offense was lost right there and it was just a matter of UCLA closing the door with another score.

Just back from Boulder. Sat with friends this game, 50 yd line, west side, 4 rows back right behind the UCLA bench. Let me tell you one thing: UCLA ain't that f*cking good. They know they ain't that f*cking good, too. Mora has instilled some swagger, though. They white breaded us all game on offense and we never could figure it out. They ran about 10 total different plays, just mixed it up with the option read every time. Their coaches kept expecting us to do something different on D and we never did.
The offensive playing calling was sh*t yet again. Guess we have no idea how run or is it that we'd rather put the ball into the hands of a marginal DII QB?
Where did Powell go? UCLA bench was loving the fact we were running Jones up the gut. Gawd forbid we try to get a 5-6 170 back into some space.
Why do we even have TEs on scholarship?
Major is a horrific player. I get the whole knee injury slowed him down thing, but the dude can't make a proper read to save his life and is flat out scared to make a hit. But he sure as hell loves to be the third defender to a play and hover as the whistle blows, though.
We tackle like gimps.
Vigo sucks ass.
Webb bites.
Tony Jones is slow.

F*ck this team and the horse it rode in on.

No need to sugar coat it. Tell us if you don't like something.

Our offense would struggle to score against a stiff wind. Our defense is a bunch of sissies. Might as well just play all the freshman and sophomores and start working towards the future. Gotta clean out all the losers. Sad.

This. At this point we should be playing all of our young guys. Im not sure about Dillon though. Keep his RS on. Jmo.

BTW... How does CU rank in the state of Colorado? We used to be a consistent top 5 school in the country and now I'm not sure that we're top 5 in our state.

1. Air Force
2. CSU Pueblo
3. CSU
4. UNC
5. Chaparral

Are you joking, CSU ahead of Chaparral?

I am fine with Dillon redshirting. I will not be fine with this coaching staff stubbornly playing Webb most of the rest of the season. The backup(s) need game experience.

Especially when the starter isn't getting the job done.

Maybe we can get Nick Sherry back? Munchie? My sister is at CU and won the football toss at her elementary school back in '99. Girl has a hell of an arm.

So, you do not trust the coaches ability to put the best guys in? I'm not saying you are wrong. But, apparently, the staff believes Webb is the best guy. I don't have a clue what the coaches see. But, apparently, they see Webb as our best option. Doesn't say much for Hirsch or Wood.

you misunderstand him. At some point, the objective for this season no longer includes playing the players who are the best now... it becomes the goal to play the players who can be the best later...

My bad. That makes sense, cents, since. One of those. I think next year will be in the hands of a freshman or RS freshman. What do you think?

unless a light comes on for one of these guys, ya, I hope so.

Why? They aren't the future. Webb is way down the list on the number of problems on this team. Redshirt Dillon, keep playing Webb.

Is Webb our future? He has two years left. What's he going to be able to bring us in those two years? If the two backup QB's aren't the future, they should leave.

Does that look like a game that got away from us late? It's about as consistent as you're ever going to see.

Today was a thorough 60 minute ass kicking.

I agree. 1st time I've watched the Buffs this season and to me it was over when we started going backwards on our first possession. I thought we lost the game right then. It was fairly close for a while but a sound beating was only a matter of when. I saw some effort out there but we are strictly "bush league" as a program. Football does not matter in Boulder and the Broncos are the only football team Colorado really has.

Finally a voice of reason. How many times can people keep settling for, "Well at least we looked better than we did against X team"? There are no moral victories in sports. Only a blind optimist would've expected us to come back down 14 pts in the third when we only had 150 yrds of total offense at that point. My friend who is an independent observer, said at one point in the 3rd, "This game is just waiting to get out of hand. UCLA is too inexperienced to put the Buffs away, but I don't see CU ever threatening them with their pathetic offense." We were never in this game despite only being down 14. The final score didn't reflect how lopsided this game was...again.

I'm talking game experience in blowouts. What good is it to play Webb against USC all the way until the last drive of the game if we're down by five TDs? It is a self-fulfilling prophecy right now at QB... again.

I'd burn Dillon's shirt.

1. The season is lost.
2. When the season is lost, you play for the future.
3. Webb has one more year, and we know Hirsch and Wood aren't it.
4. So why not get Dillon a years worth of experience? Get as many guys playing experience ASAP, in the hopes that things come together in 2014. Otherwise Webb eats all the snaps in 2013 and we break in a brand new quarterback in 2014, without knowing what we have in the stable.

I don't want Dillon playing behind this line. That is not the best way for a young qb to gain experience, unless you want him to learn how to run for his life.

I just don't know how you can make this statement. Those two kids(Hirschman and Wood) have been put into the games in really bad situations and we really haven't had any real way to evaluate them. I would like to see them start a game and maybe EB could actually come up with a gameplan to utilize their strengths, but *sigh* I fear that is too much to ask of this coaching staff.

And the line will be better next year?

I think redshirts are highly overrated. For all we know, we are wasting a scholarship on a QB that sucks. First, it was Matt Ballenger. Then, Hansen. Then, Hirschman. All were supposed to be our saviors.

Play Dillon if he's ready to play. If he's not ready, don't play him.
