Facilities Plans...

Wow, student gov made out like a bandit in this deal. Gave up Franklin field and $490,000 in debt, got the bubble and all 3 lower fields, and now instead of renting the bubble from the athletic department for 25k/year, the AD will rent the bubble from the student gov at the tune of 60k/year!

Whomever negotiated this deal for the students has quite the future ahead of them.

At the recruiting luncheon, RG specifically stated that no tailgating spots would be lost on Franklin. I'm not sure how they expect to pull that off, but that's what he said. Maybe they're planning on putting in a parking garage under the facility? I dunno. I do know that they plan on opening up the IPF for pre-game activities. Maybe they'll allow people to park in there.

they are goign to put prices up, drive attrition and not replace the people who leave, that is how i see them getting this done and i have been told as much.

500K upfront, some land you dont want, and 60k a year for 3 years until the IPF is done.

In return for franklin.

You really think they made out like a bandit?

Why would the AD lease the bubble when they have the IPF?

This is very bad news. Jacking up the prices at Franklin will have a domino effect, raising the prices everywhere. It'll also push a lot of those folks into our lot, unfortunately. OTOH, it's not like there are more than a couple hundred cars that will be displaced, so the overall impact shouldn't be too severe... I hope. Plus, with what they're planning at Franklin, there will be value to that lot as long as they put down artifical turf so the lot never gets closed. That's a huge deal. Can't be charging a couple grand per year to park on the lot only to have it unavailable 2-3 times a year. That ****e has to stop.

Yes, actually. I think you rather undersold with your phrasing using the "land you don't want" stuff.

Any idea on square footage lost for our practice fields? The ones down the creek had 3 full 100 yard fields

Deleted because all of a sudden I can't post pics!!

DBT internet fail
Man, you're right on top of that. I was going to post a pic of a smart car as the solution to the tailgating space issue. It would have been really funny and gotten me loads of rep. But, somehow, the office computer now makes posting pics impossible.

Rumor has it that the seat license will in the near future not be off-set against parking. So for a guy like me with $800 in seat licenses currently I make my Franklin donation and am good - post IPF I will have to write 1 check for Franklin (1k) and one for seats. That will likely cause me to buy cheaper seats.

different values for different parties. Students play all over the place, and they need space, not location.

based on what the AD was dealing with in the negotiation the Bubble was the key too many student groups were dependent on Franklin and it got closed to much.

oh yea, AND the students get a 3million dollar bubble that is solely theirs after 3 years. Not bad value for them.

It looks like the athletic department is looking to swap land with CU's student government - who currently 'own' Franklin Field for the purpose of intramurals. Intramurals will get the 3 practice fields down by the creek, and then Franklin can be used for the IPF - but it looks really tight to me for fitting in full size football fields AND the IPF on that plot. Franklin is only ~115 yards wide.... so the IPF will have to be pushed quite far north to allow for enough space for a full length field running north/south . It will also be a little tight to have two football fields side by side (53 1/2 yards each) - they'd fit, but there would be almost no sideline space. The other alternative would be having two short football fields running east west, which is what UCLA has on campus due to space issues.

Really. I was wondering what would happen to the practice fields when the IPF was built. I was thinking there would be pressure to add more married housing or a dorm or something down there on at least part of it. Thats a lot of real estate for intramurals. But a lot of the other fields or open spaces that were there in the 90s are now gone. If they get the IPFs I bet Kittridge fields, and the field east of the B School become another building site. I know the university own almost all of the grandview neighborhood and are moving forward with some expansion plans there. I think they have pieces of university of heights too.

The IPF's ass will be hanging over the ledge where the recycling plant is right now so that there's more room.

The creek has bend right there which means thats a cut bank towards Franklin field in a flood event. The retaining wall they are going to have to build for that is going to be both impressive and expensive. Even if they berm it they will need a wall or something (maybe an ass load huge pile of rip rap) so that when the next 100 year flood comes along we dont have to watch our new IPF fall into boulder creek.

There's plenty of space before the creek where the current recycling center is currently for the IPF to reach out to.

Divert the creek onto the old practice fields, then see if the students still feel like they got a good deal!

The area lost in Franklin field is where the C-Club tailgate usually takes place, plus based on this past years attendance, I think the remainder of Franklin could accommodate all the cars that actually show up on a given game day. Fitting practice fields shouldn't be an issue, they will most likely be broken up into smaller working size areas as most full field activities will be in the IPF.

Parking will not be permitted on the lower practice fields once recreation services assumes ownership, according to the bill. Athletic department officials have said the indoor practice facility on Franklin Field will leave room for roughly 230 cars once construction is finished.

I seem to recall current capacity is ~300

CU's main competition isn't the Broncos, the Avs/Nuggets, or some other team. It is Winter Park, Glenwood Springs, Vail, Rocky Mountain National Park, etc. The question for many potential fans is do we go see the Buffs or do we go do something else.

Maybe the earth's geologic polar inclination has changed thereby forcing different climate patterns, but when I was at school there back in the 90s, most of the ski resorts didn't have snow between August and the end of October.

I'm just being facetious - I agree, most of the people opt for "other". And the ones who do go only end up seeing the second half of the game.

CU's main competition is crappy football and the CU/Boulder reputation (whether right or wrong)

I sincerely doubt that the Kitt fields become viable building spots. They just installed a new field for the women's lacrosse team and will soon be adding better stands for spectators, even taking over the parking there. Frankly, this is a fantastic deal for club sports, even disregarding the money transfer and intramural sports. Franklin was a club sports training field and is terrible. All the parking has left a ton of potholes which lead to a substantial injury risk. Further, I know there was a big concern over fights about practice time on Kitt with the loss of Franklin, and this completely eliminates that. Plus, they have zero dollars and now won't have to spend those zero dollars to rent the bubble when needed.

Incorrect. The C-club is across the street, next to the math building.
Who has that big ass grill/smoker on the trailer? They parked that on the north end of Franklin and had it fenced off. Could have sworn that it had a C club sign there at the entrance to that area.
