DC Search Including & beyond the 1st 4 Candidates

If Seto is the guy I'd think Seattle is restricting talks in order to keep Seto focused on his current job. Which might mean we have to wait until after the Superbowl.

It's possible for NFL teams to deny assistants from interviewing for other positions, but not likely. The NFL has the rule that assistants can only interview during their bye weeks in the playoffs, including the 2 weeks off before the Super Bowl. So technically, CU could have already spoken with Seto a couple weeks ago during Seattle's bye, and/or can speak with him again after this weekend. Whether or not Seattle allows him to, is obviously something we won't know. I would be extremely surprised if MM and RG were told no by the Seahawks, and were just waiting on him. That'd be putting all their eggs in the Seto basket, without ever having talked to him, and I don't think they can afford to do that.

IMO, they have something in place

At this point, it seems the dead period will be over before a DC is in place. But it would seem you would want that guy in place for Jay Jay Wilson's visit next weekend. Would be a little weird to bring in a blue chip defensive recruit without two defensive coaches on the staff.

Other than Adam's original list, which was either bogus, or the list of candidates whom CU struck out on, has there been even a n hint Seto really has interest? I suppose it is possible, but it sounds like wishful thinking.

This is something I asked over a week ago and nobody responded. It's because nobody on here knows anything about any of the original or current candidates who were ever on any short list from day 1.

No I'm sure some had insight on the candidates

You have no idea what you are saying. I'm convinced.

Please enlighten me with all the knowledge you have of this defensive coordinator search.
Compilation of information from multiple sources, primarily Rivals, but including the rumor mill and hearsay leads to this outline:

1. The list of 4 names (out of 10) was leaked to Adam. Two of those names we went after, including coming to money terms with one (Gibbs) and getting beat out by Michigan for the other (Durkin).
2. Gibbs said no for undisclosed reasons (rumor mill says family) and stayed in Texas.
3. At this point, the search went dark as we moved on to new candidates or continued negotiating with one of the remaining original four. The leak was plugged.

That is what we know. Is it perfect knowledge? No. Is it "nothing"? No. To state either extreme (like you are doing) is just untenable. What would be true is stating that right now we don't really know what's happening. RG has done an impressive job on closing this down, iyam.

The fact that CU was never mentioned as a landing spot for Durkin, by any Florida, Michigan or national publication makes me a little skeptical. Regardless, I guess I'll just take your word for all that.

That is the weakest point of the summary, by far. Regardless, I think it's fair to say you were overreaching. One more thing: none of that information came from me. You saying "there is no information" is purely derived from your own ignorance - there was information to be had, even if it none of it bore the seal of absolute truth from heaven.

I just find it hard to understand how there is absolutely nothing out there anymore about this DC position, and I'm not just talking about leaks from CU. I'm talking about leaks from friends/family of potential candidates, other staff members with potential candidates, media that covers the teams of potential candidates, or potential candidates themselves.

You have the tweets from Mayor McCheese, what more do you want?

This

We know that press covering CU isn't going to get any scoop. For that to happen they would first have not be at Dove Valley covering all things Broncos. Any scoop will show up here before it hits Ringo or Jizla's radar. The fact that there has been no leak from a power team that has press that actually covers these kinds of things makes me think we are talking with people that coach programs that are as irrelevant as CU.

I guess having this hire happen like 95% of all coaching hires isn't good. If we, the general public, doesn't find out who our coach is talking right now, it should be safe to assume he isn't talking to anybody.

Does anyone know what exactly his roll would be? I just keep thinking that if it is anything to do with coaching the D, the D Coordinator that we don't have should have some input on the hire.

S & C Assistant. His reference to working with OL/DL would officially be in the weight room probably, but he'd probably be an extra voice on the sideline too. I doubt the position would have any impact on the D Coordinator.

Yes. But also the S&C coaches have year round access to the kids that the coaches don't, including their voluntary practices, etc. Matt having played both the OL and DL could be a pretty special guy in that role.

Mac realized he needed a get back coach, kind of like Clemson has for Venables.

I kind of think he'd be responsible for setting up, implementing and oversight of a lineman specific program including strength, conditioning and technique. I'd bet he'd review film, look for deficiencies and work on correcting them. Stuff like that. He could also, like you say, be an off season "coach", running drills, 7 on 7's and the like. Makes sense to me.

That is so bizarre, an adult who cannot discipline himself to stay off the field of play, so they hire a meat head to grab him by the mid section 40 times a game.

Um, no. Maybe 5% of all coaching hires go without rumor or leak, keeping everybody in the dark. I understand college coaching hires (especially CU) are low key compared to NFL jobs, but there is nothing normal about what has transpired with this coaching search, in terms of transparency. Utah's situation is similar but other than that, you can find "scoops" everywhere about the open coaching positions around the country.

Why is everybody so down on Matt? I don't know enough about him to understand why he wouldn't be a good hire

I don't know whether he'd be good or not. I thought he was great as a player. I enjoyed his down to earth commentary during the Embree era. If he gets the job, I hope he gets a few PR pointers. Guys who "tell it like it is" are prone to getting into trouble the higher on the totem pole they go. Eventually you have to rein yourself in, that would be my only concern.

I just find it hard to imagine that a guy, who's pro team won the super bowl last year, is about to play in it again (50/50), and is first in line to take over the DC job on that same team would consider coming to Colorado [emoji53].
