Bowl projections

If u$c jumps us for the Rose Bowl (in the unlikely event that we don't demolish Washington), is there a reasonable chance of a Cotton bowl bid or is it more likely we just end up in the Alamo?

What will piss me off even more than USC jumping CU is if they don't jump us and the Rose takes then over the Buffs anyway.

New Year's six games this year are:
  • Rose Bowl: B10 v P12
  • Orange Bowl: ACC v SEC #2, B10 #2, or Notre Dame
  • Sugar Bowl: SEC v Big 12
  • Cotton Bowl: Committee selected at large or G5 top ranked team
  • Peach Bowl: CFP
  • Fiesta Bowl: CFP

The G5 top ranked team is mandated, so Western Michigan has one spot locked up in the Cotton Bowl locked up. So that leaves one remaining. 4 teams to the CFP, then 4 others between us and 9th place (currently). Orange Bowl looks to pick up the 3rd B10 team not in the CFP or the Rose Bowl, but there is still a 4th ranked above us.

What I don't know is if the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl will absolutely take the next highest ranked team from that conference (ACC and SEC in this case), or if it frees them up to take any team - if they can take any team, that changes things dramatically.

Cotton doesn't seem likely imo. Win this week and we're in the playoff or Rose. Lose and we're probably not the highest ranked at large team

Rose if we win, Alamo if we lose. We needed much more help yesterday to have a sniff of the CFP. Too many teams in front of us that will get the 4 slot if/when we beat U-dub. It's okay, we're going to a great bowl, regardless. Rose would be fantastic, but the Alamo is no slouch. We'll draw a good opponent no matter what.

As far as the playoff now, we just need to win and hope VT and Wisconsin both win. If they don't, let the chips fall where they may.

My thoughts as well. We have to win Friday and then it will be epic, no matter the outcome.
Winner of B1G championship game and Ohio State will be in playoff, loser drops in ratings.

Win Friday. Go to Rose Bowl. Play Michigan in rematch. Storybook ending.

I think we jump at least Oklahoma tomorrow.....if not Penn State. Houstons loss to whoever that was on Friday will hurt their sos.
Agreed. I also think that the committee values championships and Colorado has won their division outright and won it against a good Utah team. Oklahoma hasn't won anything yet.

So our most realistic options are either the Rose or Alamo with the outside chances at the Peach (CFP) or the Cotton bowl?

Yep. Although I don't think the Cotton will be an option because, as I understand it, they take highest ranked P5 team after the other priority bowls have been set. That would likely be the loser of the B1G championship (or even perhaps Michigan).

It's gonna be whoever wins the B1G. Unless they magically sneak in the playoff

From what I've read, the Rose people don't want CU-Michigan part two if they can avoid it. I'd love Wisconsin cause I think they're beatable. The Alamo would be good for recruiting, and fun from a nostalgic perspective (more so if OSU wins Bedlam). I still think if we win Friday and get some help from the Hokies on Saturday night we're in the playoff-I think the committee would take us and Michigan to go with OSU and Alabama.

F**k nostalgia for the Big 12 - we left that s**tty conference for a reason. We're in the Pac 12 and the Rose Bowl is the ultimate prize.

I don't think that the Rose Bowl has any choice on who they take
They don't have a choice if the pac12 and big10 champions aren't selected for the playoff.

But if the champion(s) is/are selected for the playoff, then they can choose. They have stated that their strong preference would be to take the next highest team in the cfp rankings - but they definitely left the option open to select another team.

If we win and don't get in the playoff, we're in the Rose. As long as we don't lose badly, I think UW is in the playoff and we'll still get the Rose.

I'd say the odds right now are 80% Rose, 10% Peach/playoff (go Hokies!), 10% Alamo.

The ESPN college guys are anointing Washington the 4th spot. As if they aren't even playing another game. No mention of CU.

Wish espn would spend five minutes breaking down the games instead of talking about what might happen if one team wins.
