GAME THREAD: Dick-Chards @ Buffs

Man. I really like these guys. They give good interviews.

What a great weekend for the buffs. Honestly, I did not see this coming at all. It makes me proud to be a buff, so thanks to the team and Tad. Too bad this weekend happened when the students were out of town, but hopefully the buffs can play well in LA and come home to a rocking foam dome.

**** em up **** em up, Go CU.

After the years of Hopkins/Fletcher/Thomas/Gordon/Talton/XJ never playing up to their potential or hype, it's such a strange but awesome feeling to see a super young CU team actually OVER achieving. I almost hope Kin cools off a bit (only a tiny bit), otherwise we may only have him one more year, with the poise and play making he's displaying.

I don't want him to cool off, but I would like to find a new nickname for him.

Love Tadd going to the Dark Side as he likes to call the zone D. Dallas nails, M Wright awesome, Dom is really playing well and a key part of this team. They were driving and getting to the rim for high percentage shots. Making free throws. 5 guys in double figures. Assists had to be high teens. Just a great effort today and so much fun to watch

On the steal and breakaway by Kin in the last minute, AZ didn’t chase. Should he have stopped at the basket and let clock run until they finally sent someone?

Maybe. But unless you can run the clock out, I think getting the points is probably the smart play.

I take it back. I’m sure they had someone coming to, at least, inbound the ball. And that put us up 3 scores.

They really moved on O better these two games, very little standing around on the perimeter. If they can keep this swagger they are building, then will win a few more games and maybe some on the road.

Dallas Walton has been a huge surprise for me. Most of this could be that I don't watch any high school video, but I assumed based on the fact that he was lightly recruited, redshirted, and then not played much early this season (plus quotes from Boyle) that he was either a HUGE project at best or just a Ben Mills type 7 footer with no basketball skills. But he really has nice skills, a variety of low post shots, moves well, and can hit the open 3. He was awesome today, and if he continues to get stronger could be a great player. Great weekend for the Buffs!

I'm a ****ing idiot and thought this game was tonight. I guess I didn't really pay attention, because I did not think we would do anything. Five mins into the Iowa game, our lack of size was evident, and having seen Ayton play, I thought we would get eaten up alive. ****ing awesome win...wish I had watched or gone. I still am tempering my expectations going forward, because we're so young. However, perhaps I'm too conservative with expectations. Great job by this team. We could be really good next year.

How does a bunch of pothead students diminish anything cu has done the past two games?

I don't pay attention to them and neither does anyone else...

The team's accomplishment was in no way diminished.

This is a silly back and forth in response to Wasian's statement, but I'm pretty sure all Wasian is saying is that the pervasive chant of "Overrated" isn't the most logical. It implies that the team you beat actually isn't that good, when the thought should be instead, "We are better." Arizona is 14 right now, but I think they could be top 5 if they start playing at their peak. I like their makeup a lot, and no, I don't consider them overrated. I think they're underrated, and guess what, we just beat them. Our young team has the ability to hang with top ten teams! Chanting "Overrated" says our team only beat a borderline top 25 team or something similar. He's primarily attacking the chant, not the students.

Imagine if someone said to you "Dom Collier and Dallas Walton will lead us to victory over Arizona"? What a win. Showed our potential but also showed where we still can improve. Also the 'Tad doesn't improve players' crowd is quickly losing ground.

Completely agree. Your like/message posted ratio is incredible.

If anyone wants a good laugh, this preview by a Zona writer is hilarious with hindsight:

Especially that comment about Ristic/Ayton vs King/Walton

I don't know man...again, I didn't see the game except for the last 2 minutes. But, I think this preview is completely fair. I know people around here hate Arizona, but to be honest, the few UA fans I know, are pretty decent bball fans, giving credit where credit is due.

Oh he's said stuff like that long before the FBI stuff happened-Tad hates the one and done thing and avoids recruiting those types of kids.

I have no inside info, but I have a hard time believing Dorsey wasn't thinking 1-and-done while being recruited by Tad and crew. The overall point of Tad trying to recruit the right way is probably/hopefully fair, but we definitely made a hard push for a guy that wanted to jump to the league quickly.

I was always very high on him as a recruit.

But he was a high risk recruit because he'd hardly played in high school due to suffering 3 devastating knee injuries.

My thought was that if you can get a legit 7 footer who has nice touch on his shot, is coordinated, and has some athleticism, you have to take that risk because CU is not going to be getting Shaq out of high school. Just have to sign him, redshirt him, and hope he develops because if he does it's a program changer.

With the great work he did in the weight room the last year, he's way ahead of schedule and has exceeded even the expectations I had which were way higher than conventional wisdom with him.
