He's actually playing strongside DT in Mountain Vista's 34 front, but unless he puts on significant weight in the next year, Rivals is projecting him as a weakside DE. Dad's a Buff. Mom also graduated from CU. We should be in a good position next year for Norgard.

Here's the info from the latest Rivals article:

"Clay is a terror," said Mountain Vista head coach Ric Cash. "He is a very, very good player and is someone to definitely watch as he progresses and develops into a prospect for the next level."

Norgard recently turned 16 years old. He is already benching over 300 pounds and squatting close to 500 pounds in the weight room.

His father Erik Norgard played collegiately at the University of Colorado and spent 10 years in the NFL as a player.

His dad was an offensive lineman, IIRC.

The first player in a very long time that I consider a CU lock.

Norgard was my recruiting host when I visited as a high school senior...good lord I feel like DBT, I wonder if there's a pink, er, Burgundy suit in 56 long. He's already taller than his dad. I use Norgard Sr. to motivate my smaller linemen. 10 yrs. in the NFL when you are under 6 ft as an O-lineman is legendary.

If my math is right, Erik left CU for the NFL (graduated I would assume) just before the National Championship year. But he must have been cheering the team on pretty hard from where he was.

your math is right. His senior season was 1988. Big combacks @Iowa and CSU, JJ's fumble in the 7-0 game vs. Neb. 14-17 vs OU at night...buttwhipped by chokelahoma state and barry sanders, Freedom Bowl...Leuenburg inherited the Center spot for the 89 campaign.

Joel Klatt's dad is an assistant coach there, that can't hurt as he is a huge CU fan.

Clay is another rumored unofficial for the Georgia game. He's definitely on the list of guys we can't miss on for the 2012 class.

Getting better for next season is one of the biggest priorities that Norgard has.

"I've just been lifting and taking it easy. I've been really working on a lot of speed training and lifting stuff. I've been relaxing and then getting ready for track and football next year."

Clay is definitely working on his speed and agility. He's projecting as an ILB right now.

Here are his highlight videos from '09 and '10:

It would be nice if Jon Embree could start getting commitments from in-state prospects at the CU spring open house. Norgard would be a great guy to start that trend with.

I fully expect Norgard to be one of the first commits of this class.

looks like we want him to greenshirt and come in early so he counts against this years class in the scholarship #s game. Yup, next years "class" is gonna be huge.

If he can do this it would be a big advantage for him and the team. He gets a chance to get an early start on academics which is always a part of the adjustment. A bigger issue is that he would be able to participate in spring practices and be way ahead coming into fall. He would also get access to the training staff and weight program for an extra 1/2 year.

This would make him more prepared in every way if we need him to play as a true Frosh. If he redshirts then he will have 1 1/2 years in the system before he hits the field including two springs meaning that he would almost be a veteran with four years left to play.

I get a feeling tha this guy is going to turn into a difference maker for us. If I remember right his dad was one of those guys who worked very hard and got noticably better each year he was in the program both physically and in terms of his play. Clay looks like one of those guys who is good now but has room to physically mature even more.

I also get a sense that Embree is going to make a real effort to respect the guys who were part of this program in the past in a manner completely different than Hawkins did. We have a bunch of former players who are now fathers of kids who are potential quality players. There is no reason why CU shouldn't have an advantage with every one of those kids from dad's past and current relation with the program.

The "greenshirt" info may have made its way here a bit quickly from the Rivals board. Can't put the genie back in the bottle, though.

I really hope this works out and we're able to secure Norgard's commitment. If you go back and look at his highlights, he's making plays against some big time OLs like Callahan. I really love this kid.

We can only sign 25 in a recruit class, so getting Nograd to enroll early, means he will not count against the 25 recruits for 2011. Coahc Embree must be expecting alot of atrition before next year.

Given the post you made about all signs pointing to a 3-4 for the buffs d in the future, do you see him being able to bulk up enough to play a de? I lose some perspective watching some of these highlight tapes, but his quickness off the ball seems really good - will it be enough to overcome his size?

Supposedly we're looking at him as a DE/LB type. So if we are running a 34 scheme, he's an OLB.

4.8 is a little slow for an OLB, anyway we bulk him up to play ILB? He looks to fit the mold of the smart, tough player you need inside.

I was just going to post the same quote:

"All those guys share the same kind of love for football that my dad does. My dad played with [new CU head] coach Jon Embree at CU and they both helped set the stage for the national championship team. I would run through a brick wall for those guys."

We need to secure this commitment on or before Junior Day (spring game).

Lots of discussion about how he would fit into different defensive schemes, etc.

If he has a similar work ethic and attitude to his fathers you figure out how to get him on the field and he will make a difference for the team.

Sounds like he already gets it. Look forward to seeing him in Black and Gold.
