I don't think this is the last we hear about the PAC 12 expanding. Heck, things could change two weeks from now or it could be a year or two down the road. Larry Scott will not be left behind and if the ACC
completes it's expansion to 16 and the SEC does it as well I only see other dominoes falling.
Wilner points out that if going to 16 ends up getting conferences massive $$$ and the PAC doesn't do it they could be down the totem pole. I don't see Scott liking this. He's a forward thinker and won't stand pat.

So what does this do ?? It buys Colorado some valuable time. Time to get their house in order.
    Time to be proactive.

CU needs to take care of the tail that wags the dog.. FOOTBALL !!

CU needs to make massive improvements at Folsom-

-upgrade the scoreboards to jumbotrons w/an all new sound system
-build the indoor practice facility/upgrading weight room
    -tear down/re-build the field house
-enclose the north endzone and expand seating (should increase seats to 60K)

With the influx of cash that ALL PAC 12 schools are going to see, Colorado will need
to join the arms race and make Folsom a premier facility to go along with the natural
beauty that Boulder itself brings. CU needs to be proactive now and thank
their lucky stars that they have some time (how much though) on their side.

Yes - gonna take some time to get there however. We're going to have to live off the new media deal for at least a few years for that to happen.

I don't disagree. We should be moving now.... but we don't have the money. I think we're looking at 10 - 15 years to complete all those things.

The videoboards/sound system should happen within the next year or two. Balch will follow

We need to at least get plans and a timeframe for a new practice facility before we fix Balch.

How much money do we need for a new practice facility? How much money do we need to do all the things IBT mentioned? Any chance they can or want to add a second tier to the West side of the stadium when they redo Balch?

Video boards have already been discussed. The AD has a plan to replace the screens and sound system within the next two years. (see the glory colorado initiative) The endzone will not be closed in until we are regularly selling out games which hasnt happened since the 90's and early 2000's. Once that happens sure close in the endzone. Balch should remain but renovations should be done. The field house has almost as much history as folsom itself we can't just tear it down. The practice facility is the biggest and most important piece to the puzzle to keep up in the arms race. there are plenty of places on the north end of dal-ward that could be used as a site for the facility. This includes retaining walls on that hill and extending dalward to the north. Also building it where the practice fields are now would not be a bad idea. The money will be kicking in soon and hopefully within 2 or 3 years the AD will have paid off most of their debts and they can start looking to improve our facilities within 5 years.

We are just fine and the PAC is just fine. Our stadium is great. What we really need is WINS.

Can't even think about expanding the stadium until there's proof that the demand is there. Right now we're still struggling to sell out games.

    I completely agree.

Scoreboards and sound system need to be done first because they're embarrassing.

Next, it needs to be Balch Fieldhouse. That's a major project that needs to include a remodeling of the press box and the addition of premium seating.

New practice facility is not the most pressing, but it would help with performance and recruiting. I'd probably try to roll that into the Balch project.

As far as enclosing the north end zone and adding seat (like a 200 level that surrounds the stadium), that's not something that makes sense right now. Premium seating does, though.

Also, it's important to make additional stadium improvements to improve fan experience such as bathroom upgrades and maybe starting to add stadium seats to replace bleachers in premium priced sections. This one could probably be accomplished for a 1-time season ticket donation increase.

Stadium needs some renovations as well but no we're not fine in the arms race. We need wins but we also need facility upgrades.

Probably. I think that's what Tennessee's new facility has.

what about renovating balch/carlton and turning that into our indoor facilities. The bones are there, just needs a little updating. we already have an "indoor facility" with the bubble. I dont know if we actually need a permanent one.

Fixing Balch would include an expansion to the suites and club seating on the west side. That would generate revenue over the long-term. The project is way more than cosmetic.

There's not enough room IMO to make it where Balch is right now. Should make it over on the current practice fields or link it up with the Dal Ward.

I agree we need upgrades, the fact we don't have an indoor facility is utterly mind-boggling. What does expansion or lack thereof have to do with it? We are already in the PAC 12, it's not like L. Scott is going to to go, "Hmm, Colorado has not upgraded enough, so we're gonna kick them out next time we expand"

I seem to remember Miami playing pretty well in the ****** Orange Bowl. And USC seems to play well selling out half of an old off campus stadium.

Notre Dame remodeled/expanded their stadium and went on an epic downward spiral.

Spend money on coaches and training before the stadium.

Too small and I don't think the campus footprint would allow for expansion there.

A permanent facility would do quite a bit. Not only would it give us a place to practice inside but, more importantly, it would allow us to move all of our T&F (indoor and out) training and offices there. Plus, we'd have a good facility for hosting indoor T&F events along with a place for sports like Lacrosse (which we plan to add) to practice ahead of the spring season.

It really is something we need for things other than football. But for football, I like that it gives the football team almost exclusive use of Dal Ward, a place to practice more effectively when getting ready for a bowl game (no 50 yard field issues), and gives us something cool to sell to recruits from the time it's in the planning stages.

You can point to other examples where significant improvements to facilities have coincided with major increases in team success. These other examples are with programs that are much more similar to CU. Check out Wisconsin for a perfect case study.

My point is that ALL of the other members of the PAC 12 will be seeing the same influx of money. Got to believe that they won't sit idle and not make their own improvements. I have a feeling someday we will see OU or Texass added to the PAC. This is the time to make improvements so that Colorado can not only sell a recruit the Flatirons and Pearl Street but also the weight room, an indoor practice facility that won't blow away and the cosmetic things that sell CU football.

I think we should improve all facilities, regardless of conference affiliation.
