Really? Isn't Tim the one who drives in the fast lane going the speed limit. That totally sounds like a former RA to me.
Driving in the fast lane when not overtaking is a disregard for the rules.

Where was that sacasm font when I needed it? Or maybe you needed it. Somebody did.
I was an RA for 2 years.
man, i feel for you kids who went to school after the modern puritanism was installed.
at my dorm orientation, here were the rules in a nutshell:
1. smoke anything you want, but stick a towel under the door so you don't bother anyone else and close the window to make sure a random cop doesn't smell it. oh, and make sure your roommate is into it before you do it.
2. don't put any kegs in the hallways or bathrooms. keep them in your rooms.
3. don't **** anyone in the showers until after about 3am and then at least be considerate of others in terms of noise and viewing.
4. if you bring in strippers, escort them to and from your room and try to do it discretely.
5. don't puke anywhere but your own room, in your own trashcan.
6. please don't defecate or urinate from your window.
7. keep the music down.
that was pretty much it. now it sounds like you can get sent to timeout for having 3.2 beer on your breath.
nanny-state victims, the lot of you.
I think this neo-puritanism was ushered in by a new generation of lawyers who felt the need to protect every citizen from being offended. I blame you. Took your fun and ran, didn't you?
actually, you might be partially correct, altho it wasn't so much lawyers to blame as it was the new social conservatives. when the shift was underwa, the feds decided to deny highway funds to any state that had a drinking age lower than 21. colorado was forced to eliminate its very clever and useful 18 for 3.2 beer law. this was the end of the glory days in boulder, imho. no more beer in the student section. no more beer in the dorms. no more 3.2 clubs on the hill. no more fun. then they escalated the anti-drug frenzy and it seems that more of your freedom was taken from you.
hell, in 20 more years, the kids at CU will probably be wearing behavior modification shock collars and alarmed chastity belts.
I'm sorry if you got that impression. Because this isn't how I intended to come off. I do however think the kid is a moron. If I had the opportunity to play football in college for free, the last thing I would do is put myself in this situation by smoking an illegal substance. I'm sure all athletes know they are held to a higher standard than regular students. So any comparisons are pretty silly.Lots of high and mighty folks in this thread... the kid smoked a little dope. Big deal, he 's in college, he's young. No need to kick him off the team.
MIP's and underage drinking should have a suspension involved. Don't you? I do however view marijuana use as a far more serious deal.Jimmy & valdez, you gonna hold the same "kick 'em off the team" position for MIPs and other underage drinking offenses?
I had a buddy who got two MIPs at the start of freshmen year in a short time period. He didn't get kicked out.... he was just on an extremely short leash with both law enforcement and the university. Perhaps his experience was an exception to the rule.
I'm going to call bull**** on that. I was an RA for 2 years. About 99% of the stories I hear from people about RAs are extreme exaggerations. Being an RA was a job and never were they required to patrol the hall every 30 minutes. How many people do you know do 5 times the work required? Stuff like that gets talked about because from time to time they would do their rounds back to back, which is out of the norm but a great way to catch people who thought they could get away with stuff since the RAs just came around.
Well, there are a lot of underaged players that do their share of drinkng in the school spirits on any given weekend. Did you guys know that there are many top university administrators who support lowering the drinking age to 18, Gordon Gee for one? They are tired of expending time and resources on enforcing it. They also feel like its better to let kids get it out of there system earlier. Finally, the probably feel like it is better to allow kids to do it in a controlled environment rather than sneaking it behind the scenes.
I'm almost 100% he said this on his radio show in 07. I attended a few when they were at the Harvest House in Boulder.Hawkins has told the team 0 tolerance for drug use. How he handles this will be very telling.
18 hours of patrols? Christ! Did your RA ever sleep?
Different halls had different types of RAs. Mine was pretty lax and you had to give him a reason to bust you. As long as you did things that allowed him to look the other way if he could, he'd pretty much let you slide. Visiting other halls, I saw the complete opposite where the RA was out to try and bust kids. I guess I can see it both ways. If you are an RA and some kid dies cause he drank too much vodka on your floor you are gunna feel pretty bad if you'e looking the other way. But then, kids will be kids afterall and you're not going to stop them from drinking anyway.
How he handles this will be very telling.

When I attended CU back in the late 70's, I never went to a party where you didn't smell pot. I can absolutely guarantee you that about 80% of the students took a toke once in awhile. The whole pot thing is a witch hunt - pure bull $h!t !
Maybe he'll resign..
