So many "best moment" threads, though I'd go the other way ....

    Countdown 5 to 1, Olbermann-style:

    5. November 2000, the win was sealed in Lincoln, until the stupid Huskers threw for the first 3 times to their tight end, kicked a field goal to win with less than a minute to play.

    4. Stupid Alamo Bowl in 2003 against Wisconsin, and I was dumb enough to go. My cousin and uncle from Dallas came with me ... as worst FG kicker we EVER had (name?) lined up like a 30-yarder to tie it with less than a minute ... I told both of them: "no way he makes it, no way in hell." I was right of course. An then on the Riverwalk that night the stupid Badger fans were all drunk louses.

    3. Six months ago ... school record field goal my ass.

    2. 1979, my first visit to Folsom without Dad ... stupid new coach Fairbanks loses to Drake, freaking DRAKE! We had already lost that year to LSU and I think Washington - which are respectable losses ... but then DRAKE? That was worse than Montana State I think. In fact we lost to them the next year - again at Folsom.

    1. Worse by far. I was living in LA and a close friend was a huge USC fan - the worse fans there are. So we go to the Coliseum in September 2000, and it actually gets pretty pissy between us ... sure enough, SC lines up for a FG to win it - less than a minute to play - and makes it. My M-f'ing "friend" wouldn't stop running his mouth in the car home, I yelled at him and he kepot it up. I actually got OUT OF THE CAR on the street, and rode a city bus home down Wilshire. Took a year to repair that friendship.

Doood. That stupid Alamo Bowl! My wife and I rushed back from our honeymoon to see that crap. After the missed field goal, she found me sitting on the steps out front, as she describes it, "punching my own head and pulling my hair". She really wondered what she'd gotten herself into.

I was at that USC game in 2000. I drove my brand new pickup from San Diego. The locals had roped off the public street parking and were charging to use it. I tried to park and a rough looking dude said, "10 dollar or 20 dollar parking?". I said, "what's the difference?" He answered, "It's the same spot, but you want the $20 parking." Okay!

I "watched" both of the fiascos which ended the 2005 season on ESPN from internet cafes in South Island New Zealand. I don't like to miss games, but I should have been out with my fly rod instead. Those were bad times!

Every loss pretty much ruins my day. I end up drunk, yelling, cussing and accomplishing nothing much for about 12 hours.

Dear Lord, Montana. I can't imagine living in Bozeman when the Buffs played, and lost to their first IIA opponent...ever! That was a perfect storm of crap for a true Buff fan.

I think the reason Montana State didn't affect me as much as the others is because I had zero hopes for that season ... new coach and the cupboard was bare. I was spotting Hawk that first season ...

And wasn't Drake Div. IIA ... or whatever they called such a lower Division back then (it was a different designation). I'm pretty sure they were. Whatever they were, they don't even have a football team anymore.

    5. Montana state- horrible loss

    4. Losing to csu 41-14 in 99, how shameful was that?

    3. Losing to texas 70-3 in big 12 championship

    2. 1994, Losing to nebraska with all that talent, horrible game day coaching by mac in that one.

    1. 1989-90 National championship game. CU should have had a 17-0 lead at half, that was tough to take.

I was at the SC game too. I'm pretty good friends with then SC fullback, Sunny Byrd. The folks I was with all went to highschool with Sunny and most were SC fans. Ugggg.....

We did wreak major havoc at SC before the game though which was fun. That frat still doesn't know who it was who was shooting fire extinguishers all over their house the night before the game. Suckers....

For me it was the whole set of allegations, bad reporting and terrible communication decisions that ultimately brought down Gary Barnett and left an ugly black mark on the whole program.

Led to ugly moments on the field too, losing those huge blowout losses at the end of the season.

It all just pretty much sucked.

2006 - 30-3 loss to kNU....Was my last Buff game as a student and I got my mom and dad to come stand in the student section with me and then to go out on such a low note was heartbreaking. The students throwing trash on the field was so embarrassing and I remember looking at my parents so upset & embarrassed, I gave them a hug, told them bye and walked home by myself literally crying....I guess I wanted my last game as a student to mean something special and it was the antithesis of that.

That could have ended much much worse though. Trying to clear the stands was just stupid.

Def the Montana State game... mainly because my older brother graduated from that school and shortly after the game, my brother called me 3-4 times (didn't pick up the phone because I was pissed) and left messages with content such as "Buffs suck! Go cats!" etc..

And of course, 3-70 at the Big 12 Champ game.

    5. Kansas game in 1995. They came into Boulder and whooped our asses. That sucked.

    4. Alamo Bowl in 2002. I had mostly forgotten about this game until this thread.:sad2: Not only did Brougham miss many field goals that year (10 of 25 or so), but didn't Wisconsin convert a 4th and 20 during that game too?

    3. Baylor in 2003. It was like their fifth Big 12 victory. Ever.

    2. Iowa State in 2005. My buddies and I watched that game in absolute shock. Worst offensive gameplan when factoring in weather elements I have ever seen.

    1. NU in 1994. Team so talented, yet coaching really held us back that day.

Hands down...70-3 to the Horns. A complete embarrassment. I knew Barney was gone at that point.

License plate with "Ralphie" on it, car decorated in CU stuff, CU gear worn year-round. There isn't a single soul who knows my name that doesn't know I am a Buff fan (and, oh yeah, I grew up in Bozeman, so there are lots of folks here who know my name).

I will NEVER live the '06 loss to MSU down. When CU wins the NC (not if, "when"), all I will hear about is how the Bobcats should be considered the true national champions for having beat the Buffs.

Oh well. I lived through two 1-10 seasons when I was in school. I'll live through this .... it makes the victories that much sweeter

At least you only have one Montana State brother as a grad. All three of my brothers are Montana State grads.

I will not say anymore about it.

we can't convert on 4th down at the goal line (Brian Calhoun on some slow developing trap play or something....IIRC)....and BU takes the ball the length of the field for the game winning TD drive.

gah. also, the loss the result of (in)famous off week of "back to hitting and physical play" known as the so-called Blood Bath Trilogy.

    I'll add 30-3.

I can't believe I'm reading this thread, because all it is doing is rubbing salt in old wounds...

70-3: a loss so bad, that the legions of Whorn fans I live around, felt so bad for me, that they didn't even rub it in.

Student Section getting emptied: "Least favorite" doesn't even come close to describing my embarrasment.

Baylor 2003: Talk about your sucky 5 hour drives back home.

1998 CU-NU game: made the roadie to Lincoln and I still see JJ dropping the ball with nothing but green between him and the goal line.

    Two words...squib kick.

I'll only post games I watched either in person or on tv.

Montana St - I remember thinking we were coming back at half-time. What a crappy way to start the season.

30-3. I was in the student section that was adjacent to the one that got cleared out. Disgraceful. It was only my 3rd game in Folsom.

    70-3. I turned it off at half-time.

Baylor in '06. The game goes to OT and it looks like we have a chance to win it, especially since Baylor is forced to kick a FG. We were in control of our own destiny. BJax throws an INT in the endzone to end the game. I remember that MOST of the student section (grad/law/senior section) just sat down after the game in complete disarray. What a major letdown given that the team had 0 wins at that time.

I could only come up with 4 and here they are in no particular order:

    4. The ASU game (I think) 2 years ago. The bus rides were terrible, it was hotter than hell (116 at field level in wool uniforms), and we lost a game we had a decent shot at. That odyssey was so terrible that the alumni association made us all shirts to try to make up for it.

    3. The Nebraska game in 2006 was really bad. This is one of the few times I was actually ashamed to be a Buff. To see our students behaving as they did was so depressing to me and I wanted nothing more than to be able to leave. So badly in fact, that I considered pitching my tuba so that I could be ejected too.

    2. The MSU game was also really hard on me for different reasons. I had really been looking forward to a good season with a new coach. I was still relatively unschooled in the ways of football at that point so I didn't really understand how bare the cupboard was and that game sort of set the tone for a very disappointing season.

    1. The 2005 Big 12 Championship actually is my number 1 least favorite buffs moment. It seemed like it would be all right, we got to take a charter flight down (that was probably the last time that will happen EVER) and even though we all knew we didn't stand much of a chance, we figured we would at least make a game of it.

First off, Houston sucked. Worst city I've ever been to. We made our way to our hotel and by the time we got there, nothing was open. All I wanted was a ****ing cheeseburger but EVERYTHING was closed at like, 10:00 pm. We must have walked around for 3 or 4 miles (unsuccessfully) looking for food. All of this in what was then the fattest city in America. WTF!?

Then the game. I always hope for a win but I was hardly expecting one. The whorns were amazingly good that year with Vince Young and all but I was not expecting a shellacking of the likes of that. Like NMBuff, I would have turned it off if I could but we have to stay for the duration. The whole stadium was orange except for the band and maybe 200 fans and it was so demoralizing. The cheap shot on Klatt was the icing on the cake. That was the only time I've ever truly given up on the Buffs. That was a moment of weakness though and it will never happen again.

All of this aside, I'm looking forward to my first football season out of uniform and adding a few more memories to the "proud to be a buff" column. Something tells me we'll get a couple this season.

You almost sound like a GB apologist - don't let him off the hook! He had the slush fund, idiotic comments about Hnida (etc.), and maybe worst of all - ridiculous coaching on the field. Who calls a fake punt from their own territory up by 11 in a conference championship game?

Really? I live here and was in the stands, and it didn't seem like it was that hot of a day to me. The teens are reserved for July and August. Maybe it's the stadium storing the heat... You should come back when it's really hot! (9/1/06 - 122 degrees)

The Fairbanks years. 1979-1981. The absolute low point for CU athletics. It was never that bad before, and will never be that bad again.

scandal and anything involving Jim Martin or Bettsy Hoffman speaking to the media about it. This occurred more than 5 times. Losses ruin my day bad losses ruin my week, that stuff tarnished the program and those two did all they could to make it worse.

:stupid: FIFY. But watching the skydiver carrying the CU flag crash into the ground at the 2002 Fiesta Bowl sucked. Bad sign for the game which as you know did not go well.
