Official 2016 Coaching Carousel

Jobs with huge implications are Texas OC, LSU OC, Oregon DC (supposedly Taggart has spoke with Strong about this) and potentially the Bama OC.

So now Cincy is the only interesting job still open?

Speaking of Cincy:

Cincinnati: Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell and Cincinnati are in contract negotiations to make him the next head coach of the Bearcats, according to BearcatReport. The report adds that “at this time it is unclear when the deal will be complete.”

That has a familiar sound to it.

Starting to think the chances of Kiffin being a HC at a major program again are pretty low.

new rumors are that he is moving on from bama in any case to the NFL as an OC are also weird. Is he getting pushed out no matter what? What does the guy want? Does he have some personal baggage besides what we know that means schools don't want him leading their program?

Weird.

Weird.

I think you have to question what kind of staff he could assemble as well. Oregeron has his own job now, Sarkisian has his demons, Helton has the USC job, Polamalu flopped at UCLA, John Baxter is at Michigan, etc.

Point being, he would be hard pressed to put together a big-time staff right now because it would seem unlikely he could get any of the big names to be his assistants.

Spaceman Spiff wiseacre reset

Open jobs:

1. Cincinnati- Tommy Tuberville resigns. Meanwhile, Mike Bohn calls Chuck.....Luke not-so Fickell appears to be the main man.
2. Florida Atl. U- fired Charlie Partridge, Jim Leavitt, Mario Cristobal, and Randy Shannon mentioned. UPDATE: Tommy Tuberville.

Jobs filled:

1. Fresno- Jeff Tedford gets the job, mid-season. Good hire, but the timing is weird. Of note, D II Danny applied and interviewed for the gig, according to the Fresno Bee.
2. FIU- Butch Davis takes the FIU gig. 5 year deal and all the Banana Boat products he wants. HaLk is the OC, [insert laugh track here], until he took his rodeo back to DII, where he belongs.
3. LSU- Ed Orgeron takes the job when Herman's price was apparently to high. Jimbo stays at FSU.
4. UT- Herman to UT. Strong's firing wasn't even out of the AD's mouth before Herman was emptying HCCS' desk...looks like this was in the works for a while. UT apparently talked to Jimbo, Dabo and John Harbaugh.
5. Indiana- Kevin Wilson out, Tom Allen promoted and hired, pretty much all in one day. (h/t unionbuff on the firing, buffnik on the hire)
6. Purdue- Jeff Brohm from WKU gets the nod.
7. Baylor- Matt Rhule now presides over the baptist dumpster fire.
8. Oregon- Willie Taggart goes from USF to the land of swooshes and cash.
9. Nevada- Jay Norvell, fmr. ASU WR coach now the head of the Wolfpack.
10. UH- Major Applewhite assumes control of Houston High's FB program.
11. San Jose St.- Brent Brennan, fmr. WR coach at Oregon St. takes over.

Secondary openings:

1. USF- Taggart heads North, by Northwest. Charles Strong is in the lead.
2. Western Kentucky- Brohm to Purdue. tOSU OC Ed Warriner appears to be the leader. Paul Petrino a dark horse...
3. Temple- Rhule leaves, reaching out to Charlie Strong, but probably too late. May promote DC Phil Snow.

Other news: Doeren safe at NCST with the win over UNC.
DII Danny takes the reins at UC-Davis
MikMac staying put.
Lane Kiffin remains on booty call.

Starting to wonder if Fleck is even going to move. There has been chatter on the web that he has a custody agreement for his kids where his ex essentially has veto power over where he moves, and she has to agree to move with him or he gives up joint custody.

Yeesh. That sucks. I'm sure he could probably make it worth her while, but still.

It is weird, seems like he could have had his pick of a couple of P5 jobs, but remains at WMU.

Whispers I saw with Fleck is that the big programs aren't sure his act would translate. That he might be a big fish/ small pond type personality.

What does that even mean? Not trying to be argumentative, but there are good coaches in the P5 with personalities all over the spectrum.

That he's a big talker with a huge ego who doesn't have much substance in terms of actual coaching. Motivational guy with a huge ego. In other words, a lot like Dan Hawkins. That act might play at a smaller school, but under the microscope of a big program with big time recruits, major boosters, etc. who also have a voice in things... may not be a good fit.

Not this year IMO. He might think he'll get a look at the Notre Dame gig if he wins double digits again....
