I always find random things on some of our teams that don't really need to be put in it's own thread, so we can just put them here.

It's really too bad that the NCAA doesn't recognize Cheer as a scholarship sport. It would go a long way toward balancing the men's football scholarships for Title IX and, frankly, it would make sense. They are athletes, they have to commit a ton of time and effort to their sport, and they compete against other Cheer squads. They should be recognized as varsity athletes.

Truly odd since they didn't qualify for the finals of the UCA National Championships this past weekend. Not sure what World University Championships is, UCA Worlds are in Tokyo later this year.

I don't consider them athletes, but sure it would help in that regard.

It's not ignorance, I just don't think cheerleaders are athletes.

They train just as hard as any other collegiate athlete with a season 3 times longer. It is ignorance.

Just because they train just hard as any athlete doesn't mean they are athletes. Ballerinas can train just as hard for 3x as long and I wouldn't consider them athletes either.

Apparently having a differing opinion to you is ignorance.

Do you consider gymnasts to be athletes?

Every cheerleader is a gymnast and has been for years.

Competitive cheerleading and gymnastics are about the same concept. Ballet is not the same concept. If Ballerinas going teams and performed some of the more extreme ballets in front of judges on ESPN2 and 2:00 in the morning, then it would also be the same concept.

I don't care, I think poms are more like cheerleaders. But that's beside the point, if every football player was a accountant, would accountants be athletes?

If the concept is being shown on ESPN, then chess players are "athletes."

Chess isn't 'athletic'. My fat ass can play it. I cannot, however, do the stuff cheerleaders do. Neither can 99% of the population.

Cheerleaders and poms girls are absolutely athletes. Are you telling me Ozell Williams isn't an athlete?

It's on ESPN though. So now the criteria for athletes is that's it's on ESPN and they have to be able to do what 99% of the population can't. Are bowlers athletes than?

Exactly, compare Ozell and Curt Schilling. Who is more athletic?
