    By Kyle Ringo Buffzone.com

Colorado coach Jon Embree is thought to be safe in his job for at least one more season based on comments made earlier this fall by school president Bruce Benson.

the thing is it only represents a savings of 700-900K over firing them next seasonIF you buy those numbers.

    This pisses me off

I guess I was dumb enough to think there was a good shot at a bowl game.

Ringo makes a lot of sense here. I feel that he was loosened on his chain a bit by the SID, which is an encouraging sign for regime change.

Three factions of fans, though? Really, I've only encountered one group, with rare exception.

I'd like a bit more clarification on the buyout.

Ringo's piece is significantly different from what the BDC reported when Embree was hired.

    http://www.buffzone.com/ci_17461590

    from the same article:

Either the BDC reporter who initially reported the contract didn't know what she was talking about when it came to the numbers for Embree/Bieniemy to be fired, or Ringo's numbers are wrong.

Ringo got told what the # was by his source/Bohn. No way he did the math independently. Wonder why Bohn is having him float inflated #s? I'm guessing the 2.5 mil # is to see what kind of backlash he gets.

The numbers quoted in Ringo's article just do not seem right at all. I have never heard coaching contracts with numbers like those, especially with guys that will be working other jobs going forward.

$2.25M over the next 3 years? That is a no brainer.

5k more tickets sold each game for the new coach * 6 games @ $50 each = $1.5M/year and $4.5M over 3 years. Consider it done!

I don't get where the 2.25 is coming from? We've seen numerous times that if we fired him and EB, it'd cost $750k this year. 500k next year. etc. Is this including the entire coaching staff or something?

There was an interesting comment on Terry Frei's recent D3E fluff piece, by a poster named "Bud". I have no information to back his comments up, but it is interesting that he floated out the same $$ to get rid of Embree 5 days ago, and Ringo's piece with the $2.5 mm figure is just coming out now.

I don't see how $2.25MM is accurate based on what we know of the contract.

Eh, there may be hidden costs we don't know about, but it's hard to think of there bein g an extra million plus of them.

As I posted in Barzil a few days ago - I think the young lady who initially covered the contracts didn't understand what a "buyout" means.

    Buyout =/= early termination fee

Maybe not, but having followed how these things generally play out, I cannot recall a situation where a coach gets paid out the rest of his contract. Plus if fired, I highly doubt EB and JE just give up coaching.

I'll entertain the idea that Ringo is correct in his figures, and the cost to get rid of BOTH Embree and Bieniemy is $2.5 million.

I had spent the entire year thinking it was only $750,000 to get rid of them both - so now we're talking only $1.5 million more. (i.e. not very much) Given the losses that the Buffs will see with lack of season ticket renewals, and "loss of brand" as Ringo calls it - I would think $1.5 million would not be that much.

It is good to see that the possibility is being floated finally. The Admin must be coming to the realization that the damage is going to be significant if a change is not made and they are putting out some fliers to see what the reaction would be. Rings and 247 in the apsame afternoon, we definitely seeing trial balloons being floated about.

Is it possible the buyout is $750k for Embree and Bieniemy and a total of $1.5 million for the rest of the staff (Brown, Marshall, Kennedy, Cabral, McGhee, Scherer, Brookhart, Tui, maybe even Blacken)? I thought I remembered that at least Tui's contract was up after this year (and maybe Scherer?)? I wouldn't think all those guys would have buyouts that would add up to that much, but it might be a theory of where the different numbers are coming from?

The only people on multiyear contracts are Embree and Bieniemy. So it wouldn't cost anything more to fire every other staffer. (Nothing more than what was already budgeted for salary for the 2012/2013 fiscal calendar year, I mean.)

Shouldn't they all be up after the year since we're on a year-to-year thing? Unless they're trying to count as paying them for this year into the total to boost up the cost..

I think we gave out more than that for this staff. Not sure. I can ask someone and find out.

Embree/EB should do that right thing and not accept their buyouts for failing

Easy to call it the "right" thing when it is other people's money.
