I dropped by for the last 1.5 hours of it.
Immediate thoughts:
Scott's running style is so smooth it looks lazy. He had some good runs but also a fumble. Not that impressive a day. Really rough (not surprisingly) in pass blocking. Did break a long run but somebody caught him from behind.
Scott Punting: Not bad. He really gets um out there. They finally did try a fake but Scott got pulled down by Polk of all people before getting the 1st.
Running up the middle on our #1 Defense is just not gonna happen a lot this year.
Cody is way bigger then last year. Last year his arms looked like mine. This year he looks halfway to bodybuilder status. He was the best QB on the field today by far. His out passes still lack enough zip, but he could drop the ball in a garbage can from 40 yards away just about every time.
Hansen got a lot of reps.
There is NO WAY that Speedy doesn't burn his red shirt this year. The guy is incredible. He had a play on an out pass where he just got NAILED as soon as he turned around. He barely stumbled and just powered through the very solid hit before striding into the endzone. He got the most cheers I heard all day. Got Cody all fired up. The guy is short but looks like some sort of beast he is so thick.
Aric Goodman took most (maybe all) of the kicks that I saw. He nailed every single one while I was there.
Safeties played well. Dykes had a great play on a Jfly crossing route to break up a 1st down.
Jfly had an amazing touchdown catch against tight single coverage. He will not be held out of the endzone this year.
Our offensive line is just stellar in pass blocking. I think Cody had over 8 seconds back there on several occasions before throwing to a (finally) open guy. The only time cody went down he tripped over an offensive linemans leg (trunk? Those guys are big!)
Sumler left the scrimmage with a ding.
Moyd had an AWFUL day. Dropped passes, fumbles, you name it. He did not look like he belonged in the mix.
Polk looks like a great fit for our offense with his lateral quickness. Had a chance for a long touchdown catch that he dropped.
Williams was great today, he caught everything that came his way.
Katoa was there, he played one series or so against the Kyle Black led offense. I didn't see him do anything impresive.
Hansen got a couple series worth of reps. Didn't get a lot done. He has some quicks, but not enough to really threaten a defense in a large way. His passes were about as zippy as Cody's.
Ballenger had a good run, but took a LOT of sacks. Not very good at going through his reads. Also he was not with our #1 line.
Nelson looked solid. Capable backup for sure.
No more of that receiver hand off fake crap this year. I don't think I saw them do it once.
