...Tyler did not do that well last year. I think you're just really pulling for him to win the job, and therefore, you're searching for reasons why Cody is still playing. Special treatment is the most convenient excuse, because for some reason, a lot of you guys don't see that Hansen really wasn't good last year. He was like BJax - except not as great of a runner and a better thrower. We didn't get to see him throw though, because he just kept tucking and running - and they weren't ALL be design.
I agree - Cody isn't that great. He has glimpses, but just isn't that great. But at the same time, he is receiving a lot of unfair criticism, because he's the coach's son. Each bad throw he makes - cussing. Each dropped ball - cussing, but Cody isn't said to have made a good throw. Each completion - frustrated/sarcastic expressions of joy.
Cody was pulled last year, because he wasn't performing. Is that special treatment? Hansen just kept tucking the ball away and obviously was confused a bit out there. I completely understand why Hansen wasn't completely given over the reigns. Cody did come back and win us that Iowa St game, and I think he deserved to get the majority of the time last year. Hansen wasn't just mysteriously benched - Cody earned it with that game and Hansen's poor performance.
In all honesty, I think Hansen is being redshirted to save him for next year, and perhaps beyond. Him redshirting isn't something that goes against him, but potentially helps him (similar thinking to when Cody was redshirted when the team under BJax wasn't doing that well). They may burn it again to help spark some offense, but I doubt it. Sure, our team sucks right now - get used to it. Stop bashing players though, and keep supporting your team. They know they're not performing on the field that well...
