Webb told the Camera in an interview today he is interested in the Buffs because he sees opportunity in Boulder. None of the active quarterbacks on the CU roster this spring have ever played in a college game. Sophomore Nick Hirschman is out this spring after undergoing surgery on his broken right foot, but when he returns this summer, he only adds five partial games of experience to the group.
"That's the main reason I'm leaving Kansas because I want playing time or at least an opportunity for it and if I go in and work hard at learning the offense and things like that I could have a good shot," Webb said.

Not sure this guy is any better than Hirsh or Wood. I'm not really interested but if we get him it would be for 2 years and he could provide depth. I know Hansen got banged up alot last year so I suspect 2 QB's will play again this year.

Can't say I am really all that interested in this guy personally. I can appreciate the value of live game experience but I find myself underwhelmed a little bit.

Agree with this.

On one side it is hard to have to many QBs but I don't see this guy really adding a lot to what we have already. We also are already in trouble in terms of available schollies for the upcoming class. Is this guy going to contribute more that the recruit whos scholly he would take. We have a lot of other positions where we have bigger needs and potentially better prospects.

Exactly what I was thiking. Save the scholly.

why did ku not want him around any more?? is he any good or is it the old "favoritism" thing? and someone didn't want him around..

Considering our QB depth, we could use a guy with a couple seasons worth of live game experience. Also, there is probably no more single important position on the field than QB and, in case none of you were paying attention over the past 5 years, mediocre to poor QB play will suck the life out of your offense. Connor Wood is still an unknown and behind him there's exactly no one with any real game experience. You ****ers saying to "save the scholly" are clearly blind.

No offense to the kid, but I would rather see if we can recruit a QB as opposed to getting another transfer. Unless the coaches are concerned about Wood, this doesn't make sense to me.

This is where I am. We need some true depth/experience for the backup position. The depth chart at QB should look different come the fall anyway (transfers).

This would also allow us to redshirt Dillon, which is a big added bonus.

I'll take him as a back-up to Wood. If he comes, this Fall we'll have Wood, Webb, Schrock, Dorman, Dillon, and Hirschman. That's a lot of QB's

Webb and Wood are two totally different things. Wood was a national level prospect at QB, just about every school in the country would have wanted him. Webb is a good but not great prospect, how did he end up the odd man out at a losing program like Kansas.

By your standards we should have 15 QBs on scholly.

Question for the folks who think we should not pursue Webb... if Wood goes down for 1-2 games this season, who on the current roster gives you confidence that they can effectively lead the team?

I like Wood just as much as the rest of you. But the fact is, he hasn't played a down of football during a game yet. Some of you would reject the opportunity to get Webb who has played live ball in the Big12 (with some pretty respectable numbers as well)? That is just plain stupid! I have no idea what you could be worried about. That is a pussy mentality and not suitable for this program.

If the coaches want to give Webb a scholarship, then I'm all for it. If he wins the job, great. If he wins the #2 job, great. Worst case scenario is that his presence will create more competition!

I have NEVER seen Hirschman do much of anything that would make me confident that he could lead this team to many victories.

My guess is that he comes in and competes right away for the #1 job and at worst will be a great backup to Wood.

Nobody. But now let me turn it around and ask if you would have that confidence in Webb. I wouldn't. I don't think he adds much, frankly. Hirschman may not have shown much, but he at least has played in the system for a full year. He's familiar with the play calls. The offense wouldn't have to be dumbed down for him.

If Hirschman could stay healthy, I would reluctantly accept him as the backup.

We're in agreement. A shaky O-line and playing 1 deep at the QB spot are a recipe for disaster.

I also think the coaches would do things a bit differently at QB in the 2011 class if they had to do it all over again.

I'm going to disagree here a little bit. If the coaches are happy with his skill set, having been on the field will help avoid some silly errors that guys with only high school experience may make. That whole "the game slows down" thing.

Signing Webb is a reasonable response to the situation Embree found himself in: no upperclassmen QB's, no QB's with any real game experience. I think we all know who's to blame for that situation. I give the current staff credit for trying to help this situation, first by signing Burnette and now by signing Webb. Webb, like Burnette, may not pan out (he seems to have a better resume though), but the risk isn't too high--a scholarship for two years at most--and likely one if it doesn't work out (I mean, it doesn't seem like Webb is transferring so he can get that graduate degree he's been dreaming about--more power to him if he is.)

The coaches seem pretty high on Wood. He was highly thought of coming out of HS. I haven't seen him play but I feel he is a good prospect. I have seen Hirschman. So far not much to consider. He's got a nice arm but needs some work. Schrock, Dorman a true frosh in Dillon? Depth is lacking at QB. I'd hate to pass on a legit D1 QB with game experience. That is what Webb is. He's not a game breaker. But having an upperclassman QB with Webb's experience only makes the team better. Why fight that?
