'13 WA QB Sefo Liufau (Signed to Colorado)

Wow...way too much stock is put into one camp.

Well, it was a pretty big camp and it was against several peers (several QBs that are committed to BCS programs).

The QBs in the top 250 and their school choice (if applicable):
Max Browne-USC
Tyrone Swopes-Texas
Shane Morris-Michigan
Ryan Burns-Stanford
Hayden Rettig-LSU
Cooper Bateman-Alabama
Cody Thomas-Oklahoma
Troy Williams-likely picks Washington soon
Johnathan McCrary-Vanderbilt
Malik Zaire-Notre Dame
Aaron Bailey-Illinois
Christian Hackenberg-Penn State
J.T. Barrett-Ohio State
Brice Ramsey-Georgia
Kenny Hill-Texas A&M
Kohl Stewart-Texas A&M
Brogan Roback
Anu Solomon-Arizona
Matt Alviti-Northwestern
Tyler Bruggman-likely picks Arizona State soon

It is hard to argue with that list, outside of a few exceptions. Just a loaded group overall in this class and it really it hard to say the guys on the above list are bums (hell, we offered several of them).

Nice find Tini. I honestly was worrying a little bit that he didn't stand up well to competition. At least that is an objective "expert" reaffirming Embree's choice. I'm good with that!

That was just class01's link but yeah give me a gamer. Camps are fine, but they don't really simulate a game IMO. I don't think he will lose his 4th star on Rivals sayin that though.

I saw some footage of this on EspnU, I think thats what I saw it on. It was a 3 man show really. Not worried about Sefo, just glad to be getting good talent at the position again. One thing I will say, I dont like the fact U$C got Browne. Dude was throwing darts from what I saw of him, rich get richer. These deals have their place but they arent the end all be all.

I hate that expression " the rich get richer ". No its "high pressure goes to low pressure"

If he had "reported" an offer from Texas or Nebraska he would still have the fourth star.

In general the star system is a decent indicator of where a kid is at. This isn't because the services do a great job of evaluation of kids but rather because the stars tend to be driven by who is offering. The big schools with large subscription paying fan bases are usually the schools that also have the money to recruit nationally and the high expectations to go after the best kids.

Where it falls down is when a kid either limits his recruitment or doesn't report interest or is knocked down because the only exposure he has is in limited camps.

You also have to look at the fact that there is a lot more difference between a kid who is barely a three star and a kid who is just outside of the four star range than there is between that kid who is almost a four star and the kid who just got into the four star range.

Bottom line, I don't give a crap what Rivals says here, I'm very happy to have Sefo coming to the Buffs.

Quit making **** up.

I've seen to often when a kid gets an offer from certain schools nothing else changes but his star rating which magically jumps.

You can say it is because the services note the offer and go back and re-evaluate or you can say they are pandering to their subscriber base. Point is it doesn't matter, offers from certain schools have a tendancy to raise kids ratings.

This doesn't mean that this is all wrong. The high profile schools tend to be at or near the top of the rankings (with a few exceptions like Notre Dame) and they don't get there by taking players who don't have talent. If LSU or Ohio State are looking seriously at a kid you can bet that somebody who knows the game thinks they can play.

A better measure is probably looking at the offer list. It is important though to remember that neither the stars or the list are the final word. I am very happy to have a kid like Norgard last year who was somewhat ignored by the services after he made it clear that he wasn't going anywhere other than CU so didn't have the offers or recruiting interest from other schools.

Keep your head up Sefo. If this means other schools that were still talking you back off, then I look it as a good thing. I'm stoked for this pickup.

The ONLY reason I care is that I think it is more powerful to state to our prospective offensive players that they'll be in a class with a 4 star QB. Elite WR's and OL are more likely to pick the school with the 4 star QB than the 3 star QB.

Those OL and WRs would automatically be downgraded after committing to us (and thus no longer elite), so who cares?

Them grapes are sour. I totally understand. We simply do not get the same respect as the top PAC schools yet. If the Elite 11 camp is such a big deal, why did Dillon get dropped after a good performance in the camp while Liufau was dropped after not performing as well? There is only one common denominator there...

I love Liufau's game. On tape, I like him more than Dillon. I don't know if Liufau has worked with a QB coach like Dillon had. But that may explain why Dillon performed better in a camp setting.

All I have to say about camps is that Kyle Orton would be the best 7 on 7 QB in the country. I want who gets it done on the field.

I doubt we'll complain when we're on top again and our 3 star recruits become 4 star for no reason.

I should have made it abundantly clear that I was being sarcastic.

You are fairly new around here. You have probably figure out that star ratings don't matter to some on this board, until they do, until they don't again... and they will be the first to freak out about it one way or the other.
