MacIntyre is receiving attention from several schools including Colorado, Air Force, Duke, Washington State and Colorado State in football and Stetson, Idaho State, Montana, and Cal State Bakersfield in basketball.

MacIntyre moved to Monarch High School at mid term and finished the season averaging 16 points in just 15 games, enough to earn the talented athlete all conference honors. MacIntyre has been very impressed with Boulder and the Colorado fan base.

“I love Boulder,” MacIntyre said. “The people and fans have been great, it’s a great place to live.”

Playing quarterback and defensive back, MacIntyre helped lead Valley Christian to a CIF Central Coast Section Division III championship in 2012. He threw three touchdowns, returned a fumble 45 yards for a score and intercepted a pass at the goal line in the title game.

"My best attribute is probably just knowing the game," MacIntyre said. "I have been around it for years with my dad coaching. Pretty much my whole life, and my whole family, revolves around football. I have also been blessed with good athletic ability."

If Jay opts to play football in college, he'll probably play safety. HCMM has said that if he comes to CU he will not be a quarterback.

If he wasn't related to MM, would coach consider him a P12 caliber player?
If he wasn't related to MM, and he played safety for a competitor, would we target him repeatedly in the passing game?
Again, if there is no relation, would MM take a QB with this size and skill set and recruit him with the intent of converting him to safety?
In the above scenario, how many instances is this a successful strategy?

I could go on, but after watching his tapes I think we know what's the right thing to do here.

He plays safety in high school?

I didn't watch the videos. We have had a recent disaster experience with father-son coach/player situation but that was QB which is way different. He certainly sounds like a damn good athlete which means he might contribute on special teams and as a db. I wouldn't freak out if he were given an offer for that kind of role but given his size and his dad, I would raise hell if he were given an offer as QB which it sounds like is off the table anyway.

I just have a problem with a head coach (and state employee) who makes over $2 million a year providing scholarships for family members. If he has the talent to play at this level and coach wants to bring him in and pay his way, fine.

I think there is a NCAA bylaw against that. It's bullcrap.

Against what, letting your kid walk on?

Knowing the NCAA, you're probably right. Handing out a scholarship to your kid is ok, but paying his way through college out of your own pocket is an extra benefit. Can't be paying players. I hope that's not the case.

I could be wrong. I remember reading it on here several years ago.

Jay is going to have scholarship opportunities for both football and basketball.

And, yes, he plays defensive back in high school. Look at post #4 in this thread for his stat highlights from the state championship game last year.

Like just about everyone else here, I have Dan/Cody flashbacks and having another HC/son combo would be a tough one for me. But, if he really is good enough to play and better than another option for a scholarship and able to help the team, then I'd say go after him.

UCLA had a similar situation to Cody/Dan under Neuheisel when he recruited his son, Jerry, at QB.

And that situation generated one of the greatest recruiting quotes of all time from Rick:

“First recruit I had to sleep with his mom to get him,” Neuheisel said. “Don’t ask her how that went.”

I think it might be better for him to go to another school, playing for your dad at the College level can be complicated.

Under no circumstance whatsoever would I support the recruitment of MacIntyre's son for a scholly. If he stubbornly wants to walk on and earn a position, that's understandable, but I wouldn't want to see any first team playing time until his junior year.

This is AQ BCS football, not an extension of high school.

The Hawkins experience was an example of Murphy's law. Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. Cody was a great buff, but his presence on the team set back recruiting and completely screwed up our QB succession.

No matter what position Jay might play, nor how much leadership he brings to the locker room and no matter how much talent he brings to the field, there is simply too much risk associated with true or perceived allegations of nepotism.

I'd much rather cheer for his success at SJSU, Vanderbilt, or Georgia Tech.

Rather see him come in at a position other than QB. More about outside perception than any other reason. I don't want other young QB's to feel like it is not worth it to come to CU because they won't have a chance to play.

His dad already said he wouldn't play QB if he came here

Mac has stated in the past that if he feels his son has earned a scholarship at the Pac-12 level that he will offer him one, but he will not be recruiting him as a QB under any circumstances. Most likely would be a DB but I am still concerned about not taking a Jaeden Graham or Courtland Sutton were we to have Jay penciled in for a scholarship at safety already.

Thanks for the 411 guys, I remember that being discussed here before and just forgot until now.

I wouldn't have a problem with him coming here at a position other than quarterback. There are two safeties on the field at any given time, and you typically will play as many as four in a game. You don't have that option at quarterback.

Not only that, but safeties make a lot of plays on kickoff and punt coverage teams. (Tedric Thompson running the returner down from behind on Saturday hasn't been talked about enough as a big play that led to that win with the defense holding to a FG afterward.)

Special Teams coverage seems to be a bit of a team need right now.

This would be a lot for him to juggle, but I would enjoy giving him the football scholarship and also be able to see him on the MBB team. Something I hope works out for Austin Conway the following year.
