2013 Kansas @ Colorado basketball game thread

Phog board eying Boyle as potential replacement for Self.

Boyle interview in Lawrence rag before the game.

I could see KU being okay with another home and home with CU, although, I don't think it needs to be done every year anyways. Most of the KU fans seem to like Tad, and respect the program. Both Self and Boyle respect the other program as well.

As a side on GoCats, I thought it was humorous that a bunch of their fans were actually pulling for KU to win the game--the team that they seem to hate more then any other in college basketball. But of course, there is no rivalry.

This team is 20+ points better than the Buffs, on any floor

put A LOT of money on KU.

Is Colorado really that good? Kenpom has them at #39, KU at #10.

I predict the snow hippies go down in flames.

Given how well KU plays in Boulder I think KU would be a pretty good value bet.

Colorado hasn't played anyone but Baylor who beat them 12. Colorado played Colorado St on Tuesday and won by 5. Gonzaga beat Colorado St over 30. KU historically plays well at Colorado. KU's #6 in country and battle tested already.
All that being said what makes me the most confident is Bill Self has had a week of practice leading up to this game. I fully expect KU to come out inspired with their new starting PG and win by double digits

I would take KU here. We will still have a ton of fans at the game and we are the better team.

He travelled. Bags packed, buses loaded, ticket punched. He travelled.

CU took a bajillion free throws. Piss poor officiating.

Absolute travesty. We went to the basket just as much as CU, but didn't receive the benefit of the quick whistle like CU did.

It was a travel. You know that's called a travel at any other place on the floor during the middle of the game.

 Even Duke and Heel fans don't whine like this lot

Really? I thought they were going to win 40 games this season?

Why else would a team loaded with freshman ... whose predecessors failed to make the Dance last year and got bounced in the first round of the NIT by ???? be ranked #1 in the pre-season polls?

I didn't think they'd go 40-0, but did think they would look better then they currently do. Especially with a couple quality players returning from last year. Course, I also thought Wiggins was headed there, as that's how it appeared at the time

From the phog board:

At the risk of even thinking of what happens when Bill Self is no longer our coach, I would love it if Tad Boyle was his successor. His comments in the LJW this morning did nothing but confirm that he would take the job if offered.

Really? This poster got that from the LJW article? Did I miss something?

I wasn't calling you out ... just heard on ESPN last week that Calipari had apparently raised the possibility that KY could go 40-0 ... which is hard for me to believe that any coach would say that. But obviously they were in any case getting far too much cred for their incoming frosh class ... which just reinforces my disdain for pre-season polls in both CBB and CFB.

while the phone starts ringing every year at the end of the season with people wanting to talk to Tad, I think that everyone on this board with brain (sorry ramU) is very fearful of the day that KU comes calling for tad. Tad may give CU the hometown discount and might have a special loyalty to the state he grew up in (I know I do) but kansas is kansas people.
It's the only slot I can see him leaving CU for.

And for those worried about the implications of the interview with the topeka rag, check their research

"Boyle’s fourth Buff team has NCAA Tournament aspirations, just like his past two squads, which reached the second round in 2012-13 and Sweet 16 in 11-12."

I must have missed that fuc king sweet 16 run, maybe because that damn canuck was having the game of his LIFE

Yeah, his quote about "being college basketball," definitely has made everyone but Kentucky fans pull hard for them to fail. They'll probably be very good to great in March, but right now, they're going to be vulnerable to pretty much any Top 25 type team.

I think the salary raise for Tad, makes it less likely a University significantly outspends CU. It's still possible, but we're probably not talking about another University doubling his salary like previous years. I imagine if Tad keeps raising the bar, he will keep getting increases as well.

There might come a time when everyone finds out how deep down his Jayhawk blood really is, but that is many years off imo. Self is set in KU for life, and probably not leaving KU anytime soon.

Ben ****ing Mills! His points provided the margin between victory and defeat!

It was great to see Ben banging with the "bigboys" and his team mates were going nuts.

One of my favorite moments last year was when Az's players were dissing the Buffs, by blocking their path back onto the court, after a timeout. The Buffs all hesitated, then Beau Gamble reached out, pushed a couple of their players aside and walked thru them, the Buffs following. These guys serve as great opponents during practice and sure deserve our respect and cheers.

one of the best BB games ever

GoCats roots for a natural disaster at the keg, but settles for Kansas pain.

If you keep reading through that thread, they get a KU troll on there and they turn on him pretty bad. By page 8 or so, they're pretty much all on the "f.u.c.k Kansas" bandwagon.

Buffs are really in AZ fans' heads. Nice work.
Unfortunately, "Rado" seems to be sticking with those guys. Do they call Washington "Ington?" Oregon "Gon?" Utah "Ah?" They also think that Tad is some kind of whiner, probably because of the Chen 3. Makes sense. ****ing idots.

I read that thread and thought that a bunch of them were talking about something a board member named "Rado" had posted/said. I had no idea that was a reference to CU. Rado designs/makes my favorite watches. That's what I think of when I see that word.

Don't like this

"Deep down I bleed Jayhawk blood," Boyle said, "but now I'm 100 percent Buffalo to the core."

Maybe he can get a transfusion with Buffalo blood, and rid himself of that icky Jayhawk blood.

I don't care about these kinds of things if he's winning. If he goes out there and puts up a half-assed effort against his alma mater, that's a problem. But the guy appears to be 100% professional and we won the game.

I don't mind that comment. Tad is being honest. How could he not bleed Jayhawk red & blue? I'd rather him be honest about it than blow sunshine up our asses.

Arizona is God's gift to Pac12 Basketball. The Cats are totally carrying the load all by themselves for the P12 when it comes to quality wins.

I'm never one to shy away from rooting for a natural disaster to take down two incredibly unlikeable teams, but in this case I'm rooting for CU. The Pac12 needs a signature win outside of what Arizona has done.

It's funny because we've heard this line how many times over the last 25 years? Once again, Arizona does the heavy lifting for the Pac.
