Takeaways from the Rocky Mountain Beatdown

For those interested. CSU is starting their third QB in as many weeks. Starting the true Frosh after burning his RS last week. Bobo is really digging deep into his roster hoping for some help. Do I smell desperation?
It's a rebuilding job. He knew last year that Stevens can't throw down field. Bauta is a runner. This frosh is his guy. This has been coming for awhikebso nobody is surprised.

I told you guys I'd sat next to Hill's mom flying to Denver from NC. Yes, she is very nice looking and a really nice lady. I got the sense, talking to her, that she knew her son had a chance to compete for the starting position. Looking at his HS career and his size, I think he can be a very good QB. Why not get him started in a down year? Might as well.

Because they burned his redshirt.

Bobo has no choice.

Sparkles didn't leave him much talent The Juco's he needs to return to some form of respectability aren't coming to a team at the bottom of the MWC. The administration looking at a big, expensive, new stadium isn't going to be happy with 12,000 fans coming to the one they have.

Historically much of their fan base has lost interest in the season after they lose to CU anyways. If they can't start to win some games to build or retain interest Bobo could find himself working as a coordinator in the Sun Belt sooner than later.

The only thing that might save him is that they can't afford the buyout on his contract.

That buyout looks cheap compared to their infrastructure gamble. Unless they look poorly coached from here, Bobo is fine. They have mid level conference talent at best. And no QB. .

Honestly this is the reason it's impossible to want them to succeed as another in-state school. I'd love to cheer for them outside of the game against us - like I will for AFA after we play in 2019 - but they are just bad, ignorant fans that complete abandon their program if they lose to us. It's ridiculous.

A herd of bighorn sheep decided to take a tour of a beloved tourist attraction in Colorado Springs on Wednesday.

Jordan Borski snapped photos and video of dozens crossing the road and huddling around the Garden of the Gods in the afternoon.

The beautiful creatures typically live in the mountains and in rugged, cooler climates.
Now I am started to feel bad. We beat them so badly, they headed south from Mile High instead of north and are still lost bumbling around in a neighborhood near Garden of the Gods!

It seems Sparkles used the talent Fairchild gave him. He is a really good coach but his recruiting seemed really poor, leaving the cupboards relatively bare.

It's pretty obvious Sparkles was more interested in getting back to the SEC than stocking the cupboards at CSU.

I'm very interested in what he is going to do at Florida. Could well be that he's going to struggle once he's having to depend on his own recruits.

Sparkles recruited great for his own personal goals. He brought in the JUCOs and transfers he needed to win quickly and get out as the NFL caliber QB he inherited was graduating. He gives zero ****s about the state of the CSU program now.

Yep, and I think CSU tried to hire another coach that was taking the same approach, but unfortunately for them, it's not working out the same way. This is going to be the cycle that they'll go through from now on. The days of Sonny Lubick turning down big time coaching opportunities to remain at CSU are a distant memory.

but CSU is a a big opportunity! Look at the new stadium with the fancy beer patio! Look at the short indoor practice field. Look at the almost Big-12 invite.

Don't forget Lady Gaga, who is a central figure in the Ram's prosperity.

It's just sort of what happens when hiring coordinators. Look at how good Wilcox looked when we were hiring Mac and how he has fallen off the radar.

True, but I think a coordinator hire at CU could be destination spot for the right guy. That will never be the case again at CSU for anyone, head coach or coordinator.

You are correct. Sparkles knew in his mind that one way or another he wasn't staying in Ft. Collins. Fairchild recruited well but couldn't do much with it. Sparkles focused on filling that roster in with Jucos and with high risk guys like the transfer RB they had. Bobo found a pretty empty cupboard.

Nothing indicates that CSU is Bobo's dream job either. RSs aren't of much value to him. I would also expect to see his next class or classes full of transfers and jucos along with some HS kids that bigger schools have backed off due to academic risk.

Very true. People saw CSU hire another SEC coordinator and assumed it would work (Cecil Lammey constantly repeats this crap on radio) but people forget he didn't hire McElwain, Jack Graham did. Graham had a pretty remarkable tenure at CSU in terms of hiring coaches, he definitely knows what he is looking for. Instead it hasn't worked so far and they could be stuck with that large salary instead of him moving onto another job.

I also get the impression that some of the blind eye & loose standards allowed under Graham have been tightened up a bit. They had a number of guys not make it through admissions in the past year along with some others who were shown the door or chose to leave.

Yeah no doubt, that whole saga with the Dee Hart who was essentially forced through admissions and couldn't join the team until late summer was a red flag to some.

And had essentially no choice but to enter the draft because he wasn't likely to be able to return academically. Unlike the SEC schools they haven't figured out how to keep virtually anybody eligible as long as they perform on the field.

It is this kind od dismissive bloviation that will cost you the Jelly of the month club that all eighteen members of Ramnation used to buy for Sonny Lubedup when you are hired as Csu head coach.
